"Where the hell is he?" Darius questioned as he looked around Alexander's room. There was still no sign of the man even though he had sent out many of his men to look for the general. Things were starting to become complicated after someone let it slip to Alexander's father that the king was looking for him and moments ago, Darius received a note that the great George Mclane would be traveling to the palace. "Where on earth could he be?"
Darius was starting to give in to the negative thoughts that had betrayed him and ran off somewhere to plot against the king. What stopped Darius from believing this was George seeming unaware of where his son could be. Alexander would never leave without speaking to his father which meant that something bad had happened to them. Though Alexander was an excellent fighter, a day for his death was waiting for him.
"He better not be dead. Why doesn't he leave anything behind to give me a clue?" Out of frustration, Darius started to search items in the room he had given to Alexander but he wasn't finding a trace of anything. Not even a love note to confirm he was with a woman. "Who the hell is this woman he was seen with?"
Thanks to Darius, Alexander's room had become a huge mess with his clothes and letters thrown all over the place. The fact that he was finding nothing pushed Darius over the edge. He had such a tight leash on Alexander and now the man was gone without a trace.
"Did he really leave me? After everything, I have provided him with? I have given him things his peers are jealous of, given him control of the guards in my palace, showered him with gold and gifts, and even ignored his stupid father. Yet he dares to leave so easily without a word," Darius raked his hands through his hair, feeling like pulling out strands to get a clue on where Alexander could be.
"Maybe George is pretending that he doesn't know where his son is and they are working together to get me off of the throne? Everyone has always wanted Alexander to be king because of his father. I should have ordered for his father to be killed and then Alexander would only be listening to me. I waited too long and now his father has an army to match mine and the nobles are on his side."
Frustrated, Darius dragged everything on top of Alexander's desk pushing it onto the floor. "Don't mess with me. I am the king! I'm not going to allow someone to take that away from me. Alexander is mine, he cannot leave unless I order him to. I'm going to kill whoever he is with."
Darius panted, building up more anger causing there to be a tightness in his chest which started to make it hard for him to breathe. He grabbed his chest slowly making his way to the floor to calm down. The chest pain decreased when he took deep breaths and focused less on Alexander. "He's going to kill me one of these days," Darius sighed.
At that very moment, the doors of Alexander's bedroom opened revealing the man Darius had been turning the palace upside down looking for. "Darius?" He was puzzled by the man's appearance in his bedroom and the state of it.
"A-Alexander?" Darius stuttered scrambling to his feet in disbelief. Alexander stood before him like he wasn't missing for a couple of days. "H-How? Why are you here? Where have you been?"
Alexander placed his finger on his lips to shush Darius so that no one on the outside could hear them. "I have been following a lead on people who wish to overthrow you. I have been working solo so that those nobles would not catch on to me following them. Why is my bedroom in such a state?" He asked, looking around at the mess created by the king himself.
"I have been looking all over for you. Don't you think you should have at least informed me of what you were up to? I have been paranoid these past couple of days looking for you." Darius felt a mix of emotions seeing Alexander safe in front of him. Just a moment ago he had ruled Alexander to be a traitor but now that he was back that all went away. Darius knew his friend couldn't have been a traitor. Alexander was trying to save him.
"I have a duty to the palace and cannot abandon it. You must think of your image when doing these things, your highness. What will people think upon seeing the king in desperate search of one simple general? Weird rumors might spread around about you having affection for me. Please do not do this again even though I am happy at least one person cared for my presence."
"I am the king. I can make all of them eat their words for spreading such rumors. This task you have given yourself in finding out those who have been plotting against me since it is not done, do you have to leave again?" Darius asked.
"Yes but I am close to exposing them and then I will return to throw them in prison. Please continue to pretend that I am missing your highness," Alexander bowed, showing respect to Darius but also hiding a smirk for the king being so foolish.
