Chapter 7 - Monster Chickens?

The Headmaster showing us around took about 5 hours, thankfully I managed to eat in the lunchroom so I wasn't starving, after we were finished he told us that each of us has an office at the top of a small tower. There were 4 layers to the towers each for a different year of professors. I quickly went up to my office. The walls were made of white concrete with dozens of wooden shelves with books inside of them. There was a white carpet so I decided to take off my shoes and leave them under my desk. The desk was made of the same light brown wood of the shelves.

I decided that I'd better plan the entrance exam and begrudgingly left my office to find my fellow professors. The corridor of the layer I was on was circular. I decided to knock on the professor's door next to me labeled as Professor Axis. He opened the door.

"What do you want?" Jeremy was as rude as always with his Dragon looking down at us, me, and my dragon.

"I was wondering what we should do for the entrance exam?" He snorted.

"You and Ferro are the only ones doing any combat-related classes, so you should talk to her about your section of the exam." Jeremy shut the door which woke up my dragon. I stroked its head.

"Sorry…" He went back to sleep, and I walked around the corridor until I found the door labeled Professor Galand. I knocked on the door and Ferro opened it. She seemed to be holding her Dragon, thankfully she didn't dissect the Dragon yet.

"Hey Ferro, I was wondering if you had any ideas for the Entrance Exam?" She started grinning and I caught a glimpse of her jagged teeth again.

"I was about to get you for just then. Since I'm teaching Monster Hunting as my class I need to get a Monster to test the students. I asked the Headmaster and he said that there are some monsters in the forest that you hit." I chuckled.

"Isn't that a bit dangerous for the students?" She laughed.

"We're not teaching kids. If they're not fighting monsters what are they supposed to do?" I sighed.

"What are you going to do with the Monster?"

"I'm planning on making it a game, I'll have 100 Monsters and if you're able to catch at least one and make it to the end you win."

"What Monster are you going to use?" She threw a giant net at me which I caught.

"You'll find out. Come on let's go!" I followed her down the stairs and out of the School. We kept walking until we made it to the end of the forest. She motioned for me to crouch and we continued onward. I heard some ruffling past a bush in front of us. I walked around the bush and saw a clearing. I felt something was about to hit me so I leaned backward, and caught a glimpse of the claw of a chicken encased in fire. I reflexively threw my net at the… chicken?... It struggled in the net and I saw what I'd actually caught.

It looked like the fleshy version of a chicken missing its neck and head, instead, it had jagged teeth that would put Ferro's Dragon to shame. It seemed to be missing eyes. The only thing that it had over a normal Chicken was its wings that were about the size of its body. As it struggled in the net a question popped up in my head.

"How come it's not using Magic?" Ferro chuckled as she was catching some Monster Chickens?

"It's a Mana absorbing net, you must have a ridiculous amount of Mana to not feel it when you were holding it. There are some more nets in my bag, get catching!" I went over to her bag that she dropped near the bush. I grabbed one more net and continued catching.

It took about 2 hours to catch all 100 Monster Chicken. Thankfully we didn't use 100 nets since I sometimes caught more than one. The sun had set as we started walking toward the School it took us quite a few walks back and forth to get all the Chickens into Ferro's closet. I started walking out of the office.

"Sorry for wasting your time, You barely got to do any planning for your Exam."

"It's fine, I've still got until Friday. I guess I'll see you around?" She nodded.

"Yeah." I quickly went back to my room. There was a door in my office that led to a dormitory looking area with one bed. I changed to one of the pajamas that were in one of the drawers and laid in my bed. What should my Exam for Combat and Magic be? I guess I could spar with my students for my combat section of the Exam. I'd also get the chance to see their Magic so It would work for both my classes but that would take a long time, I'll have to come up with something else. I slept snugly in the bed, at least I wish I did.

"So, Almadina what are we doing today?" I asked Almadina after we made it to the cherry tree.

"Today, we'll be practicing swordsmanship, little squirt." She threw a wooden sword at me.

"All you have to do is hit me." She ripped off part of her shirt and fashioned herself a blindfold. Does she think I'm a joke? I changed at her with both of my hands on the hilt of the wooden sword. I jumped and swung at Almadina's head, but she easily dodged to the right. I slammed into the floor headfirst.

"That's not fair, you can definitely see through that!" She turned away from me.

"Can I?" I got up and swung my sword at her waist. She took a step forward and I swung again, easily being dodged by her.

"How come you get to use Magic?" She started laughing.

"Ahh yes, the Magic that allows me to see people without looking at them, or without them even seeing my Magic."

"Then how are you doing it?" She started laughing again.

"I can hear your steps and your swings." I continued slashing at her.

"I call BS!" She slapped me across the mouth.

"Watch your language." I rubbed my swelling mouth.

"Fine…"
