A trickle of silvery moonlight ran down her cheek. "We all drown a little," she whispered, "that's how we learn to swim"
"June, you have to eat something ! Look at you ! You look dead"
Poll said as she placed a plate of food on the nightstand next to June. She looked at her niece who was laying on the bed silently. Her face was extremely pale and her eyes were dead.
"I am really...I just don't feel like eating" June whispered, closing her eyes. She wished she could sleep but whenever she placed her head on the pillow her anxiety and fears kicked in.
"Please leave, I want to stay alone"
Poll just shook her head, "call me if you need anything" she said as she left the room.
June released a deep breath as she forced herself to get up. She wasn't going to let him take control of her life. Revenge was expensive and she was certainly paying the price.
"Have you been getting enough sleep June ?" Jenna said as placed the black files on June's desk along with a bowl of mixed fresh berries "You look so damn pale"
"At least the concealer is doing its job" June whispered as she started opening the first file.
She wasn't getting any sleep lately. She was starting to have nightmares and was starting to doubt every person she met. It was horrible. And she was tired. Very tired. She could only sleep by popping a pill or two because nothing could drown her guilt faster.
"You know what ? I heard that Lydia's cards have been cancelled a few days ago and she's freaking out, she was even banned from entering some of the largest fashion houses in New York. She was venting it out to her friends."
"You couldn't have possibly just heard that, right ?"
"Yeah, alright, I have my sources but aside from tha-" Jenna raised her index finger cautiously as she narrowed her eyes. "June?"
June looked up to her innocently placing a raspberry in her mouth. "Yeah"
"You didn't"
"If she is going to do me dirty she better not look good while doing so"
Jenna just shook her head and placed a hand on her hip, " I'm leaving got a few cases I should finish"
June just nodded and laid back in her chair.
Her phone started buzzing and she grabbed it to see the caller's ID. It was Sebastian.
June sighed as she answered the call, "Sebastian"
"June, why the hell didn't you answer any of
my calls yesterday !"
"Well, I'm" June battled whether she should tell him about what she was going through but she didn't want to be a burden on others too.
"Sorry, I was just busy, very busy with work" she sighed as she spoke.
Sebastian was silent for a moment before talking again, "Are you alright, June ?"
June closed her eyes, "always". She kept lying until she started believing her own lies.
"I want to see you. Mine ?"
June bit her lip as her eyes became glossy.
Try to forget it June ...just try
"Hmm, I'll bring a bottle"
June rang the bell and smiled once Sebastian opened the door.
"Gosh, I missed you" Sebastian whispered as he hugged her tightly.
June was surprised for a few seconds but warmed up afterwards, hugging Sebastian maybe a little too tight.
"I missed you too, something smells so good and it's making me hungry"
Sebastian chuckled as he pulled June in and closed the door. " I cooked today's dinner just for you and believe me I don't cook to anyone"
"I'm flattered"
Sebastian let June sit on the couch and went to prepare her a plate. "You should be"
June just smiled as she sat down enjoying the view of the high penthouse.
"What did you bring ?"
"The good old Chardonnay" June said as she placed it gently on the island of the open kitchen.
She hoped on the island, crossed her legs and watched Sebastian move swiftly preparing them their plates.
"Do you want me to help you ?" June asked as she saw Sebastian place everything on the table .
Sebastian raised an eyebrow, "well I thought you'd never ask but no thanks I'm done" he said sarcasm lacing his voice.
He helped her off the kitchen's island and sat her down the table for two.
"Shall we ?" He asked as he finally sat down.
June started eating from her plate, a rare steak with béarnaise sauce and a selection of boiled vegetables on the side.
"I'm in heaven. Your cooking is truly magnificent "
"I'm glad you liked it" Sebastian said happy that June liked it.
"So I was thinking" Sebastian started as he felt the mood get lighter. "Have you been feeling well this few weeks ?"
June brought the glass to her lips feeling that Sebastian might have learned too much.
"Yeah. Why do you ask?"
"I saw your reports, June. Dr.Mackenzie ?"
June's glass fell from her hands, shattering into tiny pieces.
Was it possible that the doctor told him about Alexander ? But doctors weren't allowed to discuss other patients information in the first place
"What do you know ?"
"He prescribed you sleeping pills and antidepressants, didn't he ?"
June ran a hand through her hair. He didn't seem like he knew what Alex did.
"I-i, yeah, I wasn't able to sleep easily these days-"
"It's something bigger and you are not telling me what it is, June" Sebastian sighed, "you changed, your attitude towards me and everyone, you're nicer"
June shut her eyes. She couldn't tell him. He'd hate her. She was dirty and he wouldn't even want her anymore.
"Thanks for the dinner, I think it's time to leave" June headed to the door.
Sebastian got up and caught her wrist, held her waist pulling her towards him.
"No ! Sebastian! Don't touch me!" June yelled as he held her tightly.
"What's wrong, baby ?" He whispered as tears ran down her cheeks.
"You'll hate me ! Hate me !"
June let out choked sobs as he held her tighter.
"I won't, I promise" he said as he ran his fingers through her hair. " I can't hate you"
June shook her head, "you will"
Sebastian just sighed. He had to find out what upset June this much. One way or another.
