Chapter 2 - What Lies Beyond

There was only one reason why the Spaceships never came back.

All the Spaceships that went on 'The Cosmic Expedition' or so they called it, experienced a problem that was beyond everything they could ever imagine. They were all attacked when they went beyond their Galaxy. It happened too fast! The moment they stepped out their Galaxy their signal was lost.

Their Mission was simple, find a Planet with a compatibility of 70% and above and take a few samples of the Plants, the Soil, and see if there are any Sentient beings living there. They were also tasked to gather data about the Topography of the Planet, the Weather, the Temperature, the Atmosphere etc. before going back. Sadly the Expedition ended abruptly...

They had already explored their own Galaxy and found some planets with a compatibility of 5-10%.These Planets were impossible to explore at the moment due to its deadly environment and harsh weather condition. They would have to study these Planets for several years before they could begin exploration and the costs that it would amount to was not something that any Country would want to shoulder.

Between studying a Planet with only 5-10% compatibility and finding a Planet that's almost ready to be inhabited of course they would gladly choose the latter. Their Technology might be advanced but that wasn't still enough to change a whole Planet. It had to occur naturally or else if they develop the Planet themselves there would be the risk of destroying the Planet altogether. They weren't Gods after all.

The Humans of Gaia realized how little they know what lies beyond their world that's why they steeled themselves and prepared for another Expedition. Each of the Kingdoms decided to send another one and but this time the Mission was different, they were tasked to find out what the problem the previous fleet encountered and determine the cause of their disappearance.

The second Fleet of Spaceships set off with a heavy responsibility and a lot of determination but even after all the preparation they made, in the end only Three managed to make it back. But this time was different, because they managed to bring back news of what they had encountered. Millions of Gigantic insect-like creatures can be seen on the few pictures and videos that were taken by the crews before their ship was destroyed and also by the ones who were lucky enough to survive and escape. The smallest one was the size of a bus while the largest one was estimated to be as large as a planet. They all came in different kinds of form, some looked like a mix between a Centipede and a Beetle, some looked like a giant Mosquito with the body of a Spider and some looked like a Mantis with the body and tail of a Scorpion.

Looking at the evidence and proof of Extraterrestrial Lifeforms. The Scientists and the people Leading the Expedition who should be jumping in joy for finally making contact with another life form collapsed on their buttocks while trembling non-stop and breathing heavily, some even fainted. And how could they not? What they made contact with was like the horde of the devils! Living in the darkness of Space. Maybe Hell was above and the ground that they're standing on was the true Heaven? None of them can believe what they were looking at.

These creatures that can only be found in fantasies and fairytales actually existed and it's killing their fellow humans. Ripping them to shreds with claws and their mandibles. Destroying their Ships as if it were made from the most fragile of materials.

These humans who thought that they were the center of the universe, the most arrogant being that ever existed actually felt fear. Not just any fear. They felt primal fear! Like it has been ingrained in their whole being.

They feel like they were looking at their worst and greatest enemy. They felt like they were prey and these creatures are predators. Just lurking outside waiting for them to come out of their hole.

They stopped the operation right then and there. They don't want these creatures to follow them and lead them to their planet.

'Maybe that's why there are no other Planets with life thriving in it, because these creatures ate all of it!' they thought.

They decided to behave and stay within their planet. Or more accurately, they decided to hide.

They spent years and years trying to strengthen their defence in case those creatures decided to invade and eat their Planet.

After a few years of analyzing the data they had gathered, they again prepared for a last expedition. Another set of Ships again went to voyage the unknown but their objective this time was to observe those alien creatures, it was akin to a suicide mission… out of thousands of Ship Crews only 5-20 people volunteered in each Kingdom. So they decided to send a small group this time with a faster Spaceship. Instead of a heavy armored Ship that's equipped with laser beam cannons and other kinds of projectile artilleries.

After 30 years of observation they went back to report their discoveries. They could just send their report through signals but they were afraid that these creatures might be sensitive to frequencies. And might attract their attention. They had never seen one enter their Galaxy. They have already encountered a few circumstances where they came face to face with one of those creatures. But they had never been attacked.

'Maybe they can't enter our Galaxy?' They thought. But they didn't have the courage to try if their hypothesis was correct.

When they landed on Gaia, they immediately went their separate ways and went to their respective Kingdoms to report to their King. The report contains pretty much just how the creatures looked like. It states that the creatures have some kind of body armor, like a carapace of an insect. It covers their whole body. There's also black smoke leaking out of their bodies. They hypothesized that it was Dark Matter. Since those creatures live in the part of the Universe with the most concentration of Dark Matter. The black smoke seemed to be able to cloak them and hide their presence. That was why sometimes, some of them disappears and they were not able locate them no matter what.

They had wondered why they had never seen these creatures before despite sending thousands of shuttles. Turns out they can hide themselves.

Most of those creatures didn't have eyes but the ones that do have Red eyes. Some have eyes on each of their arms or a single big red eye on its belly, some even had multiple eyes. They were barely able to observe their behaviors because they had to maintain their distance. They were too far but they were safe. It was their estimated safe distance.

During their first month observing those creatures, they always felt anxious and always on edge, ready to start the engine the moment one of those creatures moved. But as time went on they got used to seeing those alien creatures. Those aliens barely move, the only time they caught one move on camera was 7 years later after they started their observation.

They don't fight or show aggression even when one gets closer to another. They even look harmless sometimes.

They don't eat…. no, actually those creatures eat it but it can't be described as eating, more like absorbing. On their 20th year of observation the Crews once saw a Rogue Star billions of light years away from their position. One of the Crews spotted it while conducting his observation. It was a rare sight, finding a Rogue Star. They wanted to observe it but the moment they turned the telescope to watch it darkness clouded their vision as they watched swarms of those creatures devour the Star. They all lost color as they went pale. A Star was being eaten! No! It was being absorbed! But it doesn't make sense! If they feed on Stars then their Galaxy should have been their first target since there's a lot of Stars in it! What hell are these creatures. All of them felt like all the things that they knew about was a lie.

In the end they only made two significant discoveries. The first was that they were all alone inside of their Galaxy. No world was compatible with theirs. The second discovery was that they were trapped inside their own Galaxy. Whenever they tried to explore other Galaxies they would be attacked by those creatures…

Finding their origin was out of the question. Questions like where did they come from? How do they reproduce? Why are they here? How come they don't enter Galaxies? How long have they been here? All of these questions were all left unanswered.

They had a theory that these creatures for some reason, prevent other life forms from ever going to another Galaxy. They are attracted to life or to the life force that a living being emits. What's the point of finding a new Planet if they can't even go there themselve.

'Maybe we could send a robot with an A.I that's capable of analyzing and gathering resources?' They thought.

That's not a bad idea so they tried it immediately.

But the result was the same. It was attacked but the moment that it was attacked it self-detonated immediately hoping it could damage or maybe even kill one of this creature. Alas, the carapace of those creatures seems like it's not just for show. The Ship doesn't contain any living being but it was still attacked. This had never happened before. When they were sending a probe or a shuttle that was remotely controlled, they had never been attacked. No, actually they may have already been destroyed.

Every photos that the shuttle had sent them always contained the same thing. A photo of the Galaxy that it was headed to but not a single photo of it being inside the said Galaxy.

These creatures seemed to have cognitive ability in other words they are capable of thinking. They don't just move based on their instincts. These creatures that roam the boundary of each Galaxy, they can't seem to enter one for some reason. But none can also go out…

What exactly are these creatures? Are they born naturally? Or were they made by the Devil himself-

To guard this prison they call Galaxy...

They named these creatures 'Solar Holocaust!'

The insect that lives off by feeding on stars. They had speculated why the Rogue Stars does not exist beyond any of the Galaxies was because of these creatures. It turns out it was being eaten by the Solar Holocaust. A world ending Catastrophe that lived beyond the boundary….

Time slowly passed…

Days became Months and Months became Years.

In the end the Kingdoms refrained from attempting another Expedition…

And about roughly Thirty-Five years later after the last scout was sent.

The Majesty war began when the new King of Borin, King Gregory Borin III waged war on every Country within the Marya continent.
