I grabbed the bag and the folded cloak then went back inside my room. I looked around and didnt see Cassa then i got nervous. "Cassa?" i softly called out and the little goblin lady crawled out from under my bed. "Nasty Halfling man gone?" she focused on the door and waited. "Yes, Princess. He is gone. Morlin is a good friend albeit a little outspoken." i shrugged at the last part then set my bag back in my box. "I have something for you." Cassa shot straight up from the floore and just stared at me. That took me by surprise and i frowned at her, "What?" i set the folded garment on the bed near her and stepped back.
"I ask again. You want to be mate with Cassa?"she tilted her head and just stared at me. Her eyes narrowed at me and i stammered at being caught off guard, "Nnnoo. I dont. I just wanted to give you something to help you outside during the day." She just looked confused at me then picked up the garment when i said the last part. She unfolded the halfling hunting cloak and held it up so she could properly look at it. "Simple make. Quality make. Last a long time." She slightly smiled at the dark brown leather cloak. She tried it on and tied it around her neck. It flowed down to her feet, almost dragging the floor. She tried to pull the hood over her head and ears but it looked like she had two large lumps on the hood.
"I can help. just a moment." i said as i went to my desk and pulled a pair of scissors from the drawer. I felt the leather hood around where her ears were and gently cut small slits for them the slip through. I got the needle with new thread and sewed the ends of each cut so they wouldn't tare and get bigger. I swear i could hear her suck in a breath as i fitted her ears through the new holes but i shrugged it off. "There we go. How does that feel," i smiled at her and she danced around my room, made a few combat posses and then a few rolls. "Very good. I like this."
Cassa ran up to me and grabbed my hand, then with a very sharp toothy smile, bit my hand. "Ouch! Your welcome, i think," I shook my hand remembering the last time she bit me. She just danced around more, watching the cloak flow around her. I went to my box and took my leather bag and tied it to my belt with a bit of cord. I grabbed my boots and slipped them on then stood to look at Cassa, "Are you coming? I'm going outside" and she froze when I said that.
I reached out my hand to her and smiled. "it will be alright. I will protect you, princess." She just grunted at the word princess then tentatively took my hand. Her hand was a little rough I wager from having to fend for herself for a while. The pointed claw like nails were a little dull but could still tare open cloth and leather. Her fingers looked as if they were just a little bit longer then what they should be for her hand size even if, I thought, it looked a little delicate in my large hand.
I pulled as I walked for the front door of my house with the goblette trailing behind me. slowly opened the door and we carefully stepped out. I looked around to see anyone from the village was near. I looked at Lods' door across the main corridor and figured no one would come seeing as how his wife will be attending to him and his injuries.
I looked to the left and saw only doors that marked family homes and some had tunnels of there own. Each door was eliminated by a single candle to indicate if a person was home because today is merchant day. I looked to the right and saw a few of our villages children playing in the corridor and sighed. I looked back to Cassa and shook my head, there is children in the direction we need to go." I turned back to watch the children and Cassa let go of my hand. I was focused on the children that I almost missed I little dark brown streak move like lightening against the wall. I was in awe as it leaped over one of the kids who was covering her eyes against the wall. My guess was hide and seek because we all had a few small boxes and bags delivered on this day. once Cassa cleared the children she stopped behind some large sacks that were left beside a door with no candle. Why Forelda never replaced her candle I'll never know. All I saw two little greenish dots that seemed to twinkle as Cassa blinked.
I was so amazed that I almost forgot my own hunting cloak and other things so I went back inside for a few minutes. I guess I'm not the brightest human in the village but if you take in all the things that have happened recently you can sort of over look my forgetfulness.
I grabbed my iron dagger and it's scabbard and tied it around my right leg above the ankle then tied my small quiver to my back and shouldered my oak bow. It went from just above my shoulder to my knee. It was long enough for me.
I also took my mother's 'speak stone' necklace as Cassa called it and tied it around my neck. I did manage a few moments to leave my father a note before I left my humble little hole-in-the-wall home for I don't know how long.
(Father,
I love you very much. No question about that. I have an opportunity for something grand that I can not pass by. If I don't return in a few days I will send letters through Morlin.
Love always,
Ered)
