i reached out to Cassa and held her close to my chest. i knew she would fight me when i told Morlin but i had to. I couldnt keep faking a need to relieve myself every few miles or he would get suspicious. "Cassa please trust me. I will not let anything bad happen to you." She jumped at my sudden movement and stiffened up in my embrace. I leaned up off the grass to a sitting position and called for Morlin, "Hey Morlin. I have something to tell you." Cassa came unglued in my arms and bite an scratched at any piece of me she could. I sat there and endured all the ferocity directed at me.
"What is it lad?" Morlin walked over to me then stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the little goblin flailing around in my arms. He immediately pulled his dagger and pointed his open hand towards me. I turned my back to the merchant and he hesitated, then i whispered to Cassa, "Too late now. Try to be nice, please?" She just yelled at me curses apon curses and all Morlin heard was the furious chattering of an angry goblin. I looked back at the stunned merchant and smiled, "Morlin the Halfling. I'd like you to meet Cassa, the Goblette." Morlin couldnt believe his eyes when he saw her. He stood there for a few minutes before he sighed and finally lowered his hand. "Boy! You have some explaining to do!" I nodded to him and waited a few more minutes for Cassa to calm down a little more. The sun was setting so the daylight had faded enough for me to gently untie her eye wrap.
She blinked a few times as her eyes adjusted to the failing light and when saw my smiling face she relaxed slightly then proceeded to pound her little fists against my chest with a few more choice words for me. I did not even notice Morlin crept over to us as he watched us chattering to each other. "Since when do you speak Goblish?"Morlin asked surprised and i untied my mothers necklace and handed it to him, "Just hold it and you'll see," I said as i continued to 'chatter' with Cassa. The 'speak stone' started glowing in the halflings' hand and he raised his eyes as he watched us. Cassa would occasionally point at Morlin as would I then the merchant surprised us both by speaking Goblish instead of common speak, "Oi! You green skinned devil! I do not want to 'mate' a goblin at any cost!" Me and Cassa froze and stared at him when he said that. We knew how the amulet worked but we didnt know it could work that fast. What took us about an hour to figure out he learned in a few minutes. It might have been because were talking a lot in Goblish for arguing instead of hesitant words.
Morlin yelped and tossed the amulet back at me then started blowing on his hand, "Damned thing got hot!" I chuckled at him and shook my head, "I guess we overloaded it." i picked up the necklace and tied it back around my neck before tucking it back in my shirt. "I knew something was a miss lad, when i smelled a peculiar stench in your house. Then you mentioned the goblin tunnel and it raised my suspicions. But i did not believe it my eyes when i actually saw her in the flesh." Morlin raised his hands being exasperated and i explained everything that happened the last few days.
"That is an incredible story, boy." Morlin leaned back against his travel pack and looked at Cassa still being held in my arms. "So, my boy. Tell me. Are you sweet on the little Goblette?" he smiled wide at us and i realized i still held Cassa then snapped my arms to my back and Cassa slowly stepped out of my lap and crouched down, growling at Morlin. He laughed his gruff voice carrying over the grass. He finally got a good look at her in the dusky light and saw her ears He sighed and shook his head then snapped his fingers and turned to dig through his pack. Cassa jumped for him at the sound and I instinctively reached out and grabbed the back of her cloak to hold her still.
Morlin slid back a little when he noticed Cassa leaning toward him with outstretched claws, then relaxed a little when he noticed my fist had a clump of her cloak held tight. "Here. Read this. I have a feeling you will get more use out of it then i would the gold for it." and he tossed a book at me then laid back in the grass and rested his head on the pack. I pulled Cassa toward me and she fell over in my lap and looked up at me with a confused look, "Why you do that? Stupid Ered." I just shook my head at her, "Please calm down. He really is a good man and a true friend." She grunted at me and crawled out of my lap then circled me a few times, lightly flattening the grass, then laid down herself close to my knee all the while staring at Morlin as he started to lightly snore. I i reached for the book he tossed at me and read the cover 'Basic Healing'."
I was awe struck when i realized this was a spell tome for magic healing. I knew there was magic in the world and that people who could wield it were Mages or Wizards but to actually be in possession of an actual spell tome was incredible. I very gently opened the cover and started reading the first few lines and the book itself started glowing. i covered my eyes at the blinding light and Cassa pulled the hood over her eyes and started yelling in agony. Morlin sat up and stared at the glowing book. Even he used his hand to block the light being a short distance away from me. The light from the book pulsed and i felt compelled to place my hand on the open page. I could feel warmth from the book and i was dumbfounded at the fact that this book might be alive.
