Chapter 8 - Revelations

The light became even brighter and filled my vision. Complete white was all i saw and in a instant i was standing before this beautiful woman. Golden hair hung lose to her backside. normal shaped ears with a very slight point at the tops. Fair skinned compared to my slightly dull tone. I didnt get any sun on a regular basis so i didnt know what my true skin tone was but i knew it had to be close to hers because i could feel something familiar about this woman. High cheek bones and a petite nose with a gentle point and her eyes were identical to mine, a soft grey, hazel color. She stood at just a bit shorter then my self and the golden cloak she wore reached down to the ground.

"What a fine young man you have become, my Son."

I was awestruck at this. 'Son?!' i couldnt believe it. "Mother?!" i repeated the word again in my head as i looked closer at her. I could see we shared similar features and the ones we didnt i knew were similar to my father. I was told my mother died giving birth to me so i never knew her directly, only the stories my father told me. She nodded to me and smiled warmly. "I have been watching over you and i see that you are finally ready." I frowned at her, "Ready for what?" She held out her hands towards me, palms up, "Place your hands on mine." was the only thiing she said. I felt no reason to fear her or nothing to be suspicious of so i stepped towards this, what i could only describe as a devine being, before me. When i placed my hands in hers, palms touching, she closed her eyes.

I swear i could feel a heartbeat from the contact of her hands. I also felt a gentle warmth growing in her hands and it got more and more intense. a sudden explosion between our hands blew them apart and sent me flying backwards. As the white light faded and i slowly came back to reality i heard her voice again as it faded with the light, "I will see you again, My Son" then complete darkness and silence for a few minutes. When my vision finally returned to normal i noticed the book that was in my lap was gone and Cassa was crouched down in the grass covering her eyes and moaning in pain. I crawled over to her and without hesitation i gently placed my hands over her eyes and soflty shushed her to calm her down. I could see a slight bit of steam eminating from my hands and all i did was focus on the name of the spell book and my hands began to lightly glow. Cassa calmed down as a gentle wave of soothing warmth washed over her. I held my hands on her face for a few moments then i passed out after the glowing faded.

It was near morning when I finally came around. I sat straight up and felt a weight in my lap. I looked down and saw a little goblin girl peacefully curled up. I put my hand on my head as a splitting headache hit me all at once. I groaned out loud and Morlin handed me a wooden cup, "Here boy. This will help with the pain," I was surprised by him but took to glass and gulpped down the liquid thinking it was water. It was cold in my mouth but it felt like fire in the back of my throat. The coughing fit woke Cassa and she scrambled out of my lap and looked around. "Easy there boy. Thats gunna hit you in a few minutes so calm down." Morlin laughed at me and the sound of his grating voice only made my head throb all the more. I looked at Cassa with a blank stare and slowly spoke, not so much to her but more outloud, "I saw my mother!"

Cassa tilted her little head and Morlin came over and sat down beside me. He began to describe the woman that i saw in exact detail. He held out another drink for me and i took and it and gulped it back this time trying my best to not let it hit my throat. I coughed again and just looked at him, "You knew her?" He nodded and sighed, "Yes. I helped your Father and Mother move the first few shovel loads of dirt for there home in Rock Town." He leaned against me and began to explain who my mother was. It turns out she was a halfling of sorts herself. Half human and half ancient. Morlin said the ancients were an older race that lived a very long time. They would be called High Elves in her peoples' time but they were thought dead a long time ago. "Stupid Ered is High Elf?" Cassa glared at me, her eyes narrowing in disbelief and Morlin shook his head, "Ered is only a quarter High Elf and three quarters Human. Thats why he could use magic last night after he absorbed the spell tome i gave him."

I fell back when i realized what he said was true about me using magic for the very first time. I stared up to the fading stars in the sky and sighed. "Magic." i said in an even tone and Cassa came over beside me and sat down, resting her little elbows on my chest and holding her head in her hands, "Maybe Ered not so stupid now," she softly spoke aloud and i grunted as my headache started to ease up. Morlin poured him a drink and slapped it back in one big gulp then offered me another. I waved it off as i tried to commit the image of my mother to memory, going over every detail of what i saw.

Little did i know as i was losing my awareness with the strong drink now clouding my head, there were things moving around us and circling closer.
