Chapter 4 - Running and Goth Chicks

Violet felt a deep blush creep over her body as she walked out to find Samuel and Marcus. She normally wouldn't have minded if she was wearing pants. But no she was wearing shorts that just covered her butt and a tank top that showed more skin than it concealed. At that moment she was so thankful for her jacket just then. Oh so very thankful. As Violet walked up someone let out a long whistle, it was Caleb. She turned around and gave him the one finger salute. "You know you want me baby." He said a cocky smile spreading across his face. What a creep, at the same time he puzzled her. He was just complaining about being paired up in a group with her, and now he was making advances. Maybe he did get hit in the head one to many times without his helmet on. He whistled again when she continued to walk by him.

"In your dreams, you pervert." Violet shouted at him. As she franticly looked for Samuel or Marcus.

"Oh the things that you would do to me." He said closing his eyes and smiled. She felt anger boil up in my stomach. She wanted to put him in his place. so she stopped in her tracks and started to walk over to Caleb. Just then Samuel came up behind her and pulled her away by the waist. Violet glared at him as Samuel pulled her in the opposite direction.

"Come on! We got to get in line before she calls roll." He said, "Trust me you don't ever want to be late to her class, and if you are not in line then you are late. You're last name is Summers so you will be somewhere in the middle. Go stand next to Josh Samosa, that should be pretty close.

"Huh?" she said, why was he acting like she knew anyone. He practically dragged her to a spot next to a huge guy.

"Stand here, it's your first day so if you are close in roll call order she shouldn't be to harsh on you." he said as he jogged down toward the very end of the line.

So Violet stood there next to a girl that looked like an emo cheerleader and a guy who looked like he had eaten one too many hamburgers. The gym teacher, Mrs. Riddles, went down the line calling out last names. Violet started to feel more like she was in the army than in P.E. When the teacher came to stand in front of Violet, she just looked at her, then smiled, "Looks like we got a new student, and what might your name be."

"Violet Summers ma'am" Violet said with a smile that mimicked hers.

"Well Summers I hope that you don't think just because you're a girl, you don't have to give it your all. This isn't just going to be an easy credit class. Do I make my self clear?" The small woman said, in a drill instructor like tone.

"No ma'am I didn't expect any special treatment at all." Violet stammered.

"Good." She said and walked off down the line. Marking off the people that made it to roll call. Then she made her way back up the line counting, and looking at her list.

"Does anyone know where Ellis is?" she yelled. Out of no where Caleb came running around the corner. "Don't you know that you were supposed to be here for roll call, ELLIS, what in the sam hill were you doing that was so important that you had to make us all wait on you?"

"I was just talking to coach about the game this Friday." he said nonchalantly.

"Is that so, well game day or not you know what happens when one member of the team is late? Right everyone?" she yelled. Groans and complaints rang from both ends of the line. "Get moving track time, I don't want to see anyone one slacking, if you get passed by me then you only get half credit for today, and since some of you can't afford that I suggest y'all get moving."

Everyone started making their way to the track. Violet trudging slowly behind them thinking to herself once again. "So that's what Sam had meant by you don't want to be late." She thought to herself. It made her wonder how many times that he had been late, and that she was so glad not to be Caleb at that moment because it seemed to her that he was the most hated person in the world, at that moment.

The teacher had them run that day, in four rows of five. She put Violet behind Samuel and in front of Caleb. Violet kept up with the boys even as most of the chicks fell out she still ran. Yeah not jogged ran. By the time that they finished it was Violet, the goth cheerleader, Samuel, Marcus, Caleb and three other guys.

"Well Summers I underestimated you." Mrs. Riddles said sweat dripping off of her.

"Umm thank you." Violet said panting herself, caught off guard by the sudden praise. She was little more out of breath that she thought that she would be, it was difficult for her to answer.

"I expect that giddy up and go from you from now on. Now that I know that you have it in you, and that you're not like half of these princesses." she said drying her face with the towel.

"Well go and shower before the bell rings." She said and called for the other students to hurry it up. Violet made her way back to the huge gym that casted its shadow over the track.

Violet spotted Samuel in the mob that was starting to make its way up to the gym. She jogged up next to him. "Hey thanks for the heads up, I wouldn't want to be the guy that made us run laps for the last hour and a half. But umm, quick question, why did you call it the Thunderdome?" she asked in between deep breaths. Nope no more running, she thought to herself. Running is for the birds, and as of right now she knew that she was going to feel it in the morning.

"Be here next Thursday and you will see." he said walking over to the door on the side of the building then disappearing inside what she was guessing to be the men's locker room. Leaving her by herself trying to find the women's. More and more people started coming in and she knew that she didn't have long left before next class.

Violet followed some of the other girls and finally discovered where the girls locker room was. Gabbing her cleaning supplies, she went to a stall and turned on the hot water. She stripped out of her clothes and stood under the steady stream of hot water, as the other girls poured into the locker room. Happy that she didn't have to stink for the rest of the day.

"Hey you in the shower." a voice called from behind her. She looked around startled. The goth cheerleader was smiling at her.

"Umm yes." Violet said feeling very exposed and uncomfortable. Could this girl not tell she was naked as a jaybird as she held the curtain open. Which did not seem to phase her at all.

"Nice job running out there I took you for a powder puff but hey you where keeping up with the best of us, have you thought about going out for the track team umm…."

"Violet." Violet said. As she tried her best to cover herself. "And no I just got here."

"Violet, that's a pretty name, mines Harmony Love. We are always scouting for people on the girls track team, let me know if your interested." She said walking off. Violet quickly closed the shower curtain.

'What a strange girl, and track team who runs for fun.' She thought to herself. Quickly as she could she finished cleaning the sweat from her hair and body. Her time at this school was going to be a memorable one for sure.
