"Harmony?" Violet called out to her, not really wanting to move from where she was. Violet called to her again Louder this time thinking that she didn't hear her the first time. "Harmony?!" Harmony only pointed out into the darkness just past the glow of the front porch light.
Violet didn't see anything, and began to think that they where playing a prank on her. "Are you joking around? Because if you are it isn't funny" Violet said, her voice shaking as she began taking steps toward her friend.
Yet Violet became rooted in place when Harmony began to shake her head back and forth frantically. She was honestly petrified by something. Once again Violet attempted to see what had Harmony frightened to her core. As she peered into the darkness that was just outside her door her stomach started to sink and get cold. Fear began to bubble up from within her soul. Violet felt herself begin to shake.
Violet walked forward again peering further into the dark in front of her. She still couldn't make anything out but the darkness. Then lighting filled the sky and what it illuminated made her stomach drop even further and fear seep into her bones, forcing her freeze in place.
"Your brain was just playing a trick on you." Violet told herself as if trying to rationalize what she had just seen in the moment of light. "You heard a scream and you assumed the worst." But when the second bolt of lightning illumined the sky she could no longer deny that what she had saw was the truth.
In her doorway stood a short humanoid figure, the things hair was soaked from the rain outside and clinging to torn clothing. Its feet were bare and dirty, it's arms hung by its side. Violet could not see the face through the mass of hair that was sticking to it. And then a soft voice came from the horrifying image in front of her.
With its hand outstretched as if reaching for someone or something, like a whisper of wind it uttered "Please help." And then fell forward into Harmony's panic stricken body forcing her to catch the limp form.
Harmony looked in Violet's direction as if to ask what to do as her brain slowly tried to process what was going on. "What do I do?" Harmony said out loud panic heavily evident in her voice. Why was she asking her?!" Violet thought to herself, at this point she was completely freaked out.
"Take it to the couch and lay it down." Violet said without even thinking. Slowly she picked the thing up and took it to the living room. Violet followed behind her, shaking the whole way not fully understanding what was happening.
Harmony carefully laid the body onto the leather sofa and then slowly she reached out her shaking hand to pull the hair from the face. Violet stomach lurched, making her feel as if she was going to be sick. Before them was a small child, a little girl that couldn't have been no older than six years old. Her clothes were tattered almost as if they were shredded on purpose, grimy and disgusting. Her pale skin had large red angry looking welts on them, with some already beginning to bruise, while others seeped blood that mixed in with the rain water that ran over her bare skin.
"Go find Samuel and Marcus and grab some towels. I'm going to call 911." Violet told Harmony as calmly as she could. But she knew her voice gave her away. Violet was just as scared and uncertain as the other girl was. They both looked back at the child that now laid on the couch, then back at each other. Pity and sorrow apparent in their eyes. Before walking off, Harmony took off her jacket and laid it on the small form. Trying to give the little frozen figure some kind of warmth until she could return with the towels.
Harmony then walked off into the house. Quickly as she could Violet bolted into the kitchen and grabbed the phone, and called 911. After two rings a voice answered from the other end of the line, "911 what is your emergency?"
Again Violet froze up. How was she going to explain that she had some child show up at her door pleading for help and was now unconscious on the couch?
"Hello is anyone there?" The voice on the other end of the phone said. Violet decided the best thing to do was just to be truthful about the whole situation. Just say what had happened.
"Yes, a young girl showed up at my door, she appeared to be wounded and drenched. She wound up collapsing. So we brought her inside and laid her on the couch. " she said trying to hide the panic in her voice.
"Is the child still breathing ma'am?" The voice asked. As Violet heard her frantically typing away on the other end of the line.
"I don't know." She stammered in response.
"Ma'am are you near the child at the moment?" The operator asked.
"No, but give me one moment and I can be." Violet said half jogging back into the living room, and looking at the couch. The little girl was no longer there. She was gone.
