Sam bolted through the crowd shoving everyone to the side desperately trying to make it out the front door, and after his intended target. Violet saw two officers turn on their heels and make chase. "Bubba noooooo!" Jessica wailed and cried from Violet's lap calling out for her older brother, "Come back." She soon began to struggle in her lap trying to follow her older brother. As Violet held her the best she could she motioned for Harmony to come over. In an instant Harmony was at her side.
"Hey Jessica." Violet said, calmly trying to grab the young girls attention. Jessica looked up at her with tears streaming from her eyes, "I'm going to go get your bubba, but I need you to stay here with Miss Harmony, ok?" Violet said, motioning to the woman that stood beside her. Violet could tell Jessica was hesitant. Harmony spoke up. "That jacket is soft huh?" she said while looking at the little girl. Jessica nodded. "You can keep it if you want." Harmony told her. The little girl's eyes got big.
"This is yours?" Jessica said while looking at Harmony.
Harmony nodded. "It's one of my favorites since its so soft and warm. But you can have it if you like it."
"It feels like a hug." Jessica said, beaming, while still looking at the other woman. Harmony gave her a soft smile.
Jessica looked at the crowd before her then back at Violet." Will you make him come back?" She asked with her voice low and full of fear.
"Yes I will." Violet said reassuring the little girl. "I will drag him back if I have to.
Jessica smiled brightly at her and Violet patted the ground next to her. Silently asking for Harmony to sit next to them. As soon as Harmony sat down Violet handed her Jessica. The child had a death grip on her arm still. Giving the little girl a quick smile and a pat on the head to give her a little bit more reassurance. Violet made her way quickly through the mob of people in the sun room and escaped out the door.
As soon as Violet made it past the mob of emergency responders she followed the yelling and the screaming to the front of the house. Violet ran toward the voices as quick as her legs could carry her. Only to come to a dead stop in the living room where Violet saw two cops pinning Samuel to the floor as he tried to escape.
"Sir stop resisting, hold still." One of the cops ordered at the squirming man. "Sir we don't want to have to hurt you." Samuel was able to get one arm free and shove the smaller man off of him. Which then he managed to finally get to his feet only to be tackled once again by the mans larger partner. Samuel hit the floor with a loud thud, but it did not make him lose his momentum in his determination to complete his task. Violet stood there frozen for a moment. She was listening to Samuel cuss and yell that he was going to murder someone.
"How can I stop this." Violet thought to herself. He was angry but he was over doing it. Violet racked her brain trying to think of something, then it came to her.
"Samuel, stop. Jessica needs you." Violet shouted at him. Samuel reacted as if he got hit by lightning and stopped all movements as clarity came back to him. Slowing making the red fade from his sight. Hearing his sisters name, the one that he was trying to protect seemed to bring an eerie calm over him. He stopped resisting and the cops put cuffs on him and brought him to his feet. Violet looked at his face he was fighting his anger, trying his best to remain calm.
"Where were you about 9 minutes ago, we could have really used that then. For a small guy he can put up a hell of a fight." The larger cop said wiping sweat from his brow. The younger smaller cop was still keeping his distance from Samuel as if he was some dangerous animal. At that moment, even though Violet understood why Sam was angry she couldn't blame the man for keeping distance between them. It came as a shock to everyone, but he needed to calm down some.
"Why is he handcuffed ?" Violet asked the larger officer. "Is he under arrest?"
The officer just shook his head, "Even though we should arrest him, since he fought back, we don't have him under arrest as of right now. But we would like to know what is going on. Hopefully he is willing to cooperate and become less combative." he said rubbing the side of his chin.
Samuel let out a loud sigh, allowing his shoulders to slump making the metal cuffs ting as they struck each other. His breathing became more labored as he fought the pit of overflowing emotions that lurked just under the surface. But he remained his composure. "I will cooperate, but only to a point I will not do or say anything that puts my sisters livelihood in danger."
"It's a little late for that, don't cha think boy?" The smaller cop said. Before anyone had time to react Samuel had knocked him to the floor. The much larger cop grabbed him, as he yoked him Sam said, "Watch your mouth, or I might just bust it next."
Violet could feel the stifling tension in the room. Sam no matter how calm he appeared to be still was a loose cannon ready to go off at any moment.
"I think it best that you go wait out in the car , Morgan." The larger cop said in an affirming tone to his partner, "You ain't doing nothing but stirring the pot at this point." The smaller cop scoffed as he babied the cheek that Samuel had struck. It had already started to swell and get a deep red color to it.
"Fine you deal with the nut-job, Monroe, but when he snaps and kills ya I won't be crying at your funeral." He said as he made it way out the door that had been left open.
The larger cop gave a deep sigh. "I know there is no excuse for his behavior. But he is my partner and I know better than anyone how crass he can be. He has a natural talent for getting under a fellow's skin."
"Save the good cop, bad cop routine for someone who will fall for it." spat Samuel. Violet watched as he cleaned the blood from his mouth. "If you want to know who hurt my sister, then you have to swear to me that you will not let that monster back near her."
