"Well now since that is all settled and done with, I will give you the last 8 minutes of class to talk with your group, and tomorrow make sure you bring your supplies because you will be using the period for research. " Mr. Belcher said making his way back to his desk to sit down. Violet started packing up her stuff as she heard people get up and shuffle around the room.
"Well Hello. My name is Marcus, and it is a pleasure to meet you." a voice sounded from right next to me making her jump a little.
Violet looked up to see the boy in the hoodie standing next to her. "Hi my name is Violet, please to make your acquaintance. " she said sarcastically. "So what part of the project do you want me to do? " she asked him getting right down to business so she could at least write it down and he could go away.
"Well lets ask the other members of our group shall we, I mean we wouldn't want anyone to feel as if you are getting special treatment." he said glaring at Caleb, who still was grumbling about being paired up with the new girl and had his head down on his desk. "What are your strengths?" he asked looking down at her.
"I can pretty much do what ever, just not public speaking, I'm not comfortable enough with that yet, ya know being a new kid and all." Violet said fidgeting with her schoolbag.
"Well that works because Sammy here, he said as he pulled Samuel out of his seat, is doing the speech part of the presentation. Caleb is doing the poster board, hopefully he doesn't eat the crayons. So that just leaves the PowerPoint to do, you can help me with the whole putting it together part. I'm pretty lousy with computers." Marcus said scratching the back of his head. Violet was guessing that he was group leader since neither of the other two said anything against it.
"Fine." said Caleb as he jumped up from his desk and shoved passed the group, just as the bell rang. Violet grabbed her bag and headed toward my next class, that Caleb kid was going to be trouble she just had a feeling. Once again Violet was so lost in her thoughts, she didn't even notice she had company until they spoke.
"Don't worry about Caleb, he is just an asshole." She turned around to see Marcus, and behind him Samuel.
"So who do you have next Vanessa?" he inquired looking over her shoulder to peek at her class schedule.
"It's Violet and I have Mrs. Riddles next period, what does she teach?" she asked, since the course just said mandatory.
Marcus smiled "Well we will see when we get there now won't we?" he said walking off. That was weird she thought to herself.
Violet looked at Samuel. "So I am in your group huh?" she said trying to be polite.
"Yeah, guess so. I guess we have to hang out more then huh?" he asked in a picking tone.
"I guess so, but I don't know how long I can deal with Caleb for. The guy is irritating." she retorted. "I mean he is the definition of Jock."
"Yeah I get that, just ignore him ok? The only reason he does it is to get a reaction." Sam said looking at her. "Well this is the next class, you have your extra clothes with you right?" Violet just nodded and took a mental note. He smiled at Violet and said, "Well go get changed I will wait for you. Violet welcome to what we call the Thunderdome."
Thunderdome? Violet didn't like the sound of that. She had a bit of an issue finding the girls locker room. Sighing in defeat Violet she remembered that she had seen a girls bathroom at the beginning of the hall. She decided it was better than nothing or worse being late to her first day of class. She got dressed quickly as she could and made her way outside to the mass of students huddled by the track. Assuming that is where she was supposed to be.
Violet figured out by now this was some form of physical education, but what she couldn't figure out is why Samuel called it the thunderdome. Was it going to be a blood sport or something of the sort? She finally decided that they were being dramatic about the whole situation. That or just messing with her since she was the new kid. She walked quickly over the field as she saw a group of adults make their way over to the mass of students huddled by the track, crap she was going to be late.
