Chapter 24 - 24. Not wasting resources

Looking at the mountains of stuff that were appearing and disappearing, John just shook his head.

''What are they doing?'' But then became worried. ''Is maybe something wrong with Anne's skill?''

There was no one who could help her out. He never heard of portals between worlds so seeing someone doing it, stunned him at first, but as there are many wondrous things in this world, he just accepted it quite fast.

Anne came with a few big strange bags and put them in front of his feet. ''These are special travelling bags. Trust me, we will probably need them.'' She pointed at the whole camping equipment.

''Oh, how interesting.'' He was curious about bags but waited for her to continue.

''Mom is cooking like a crazy person, to freeze or dry stuff that we can eat on our travels. We can always go back to our place and take food out, if we are not in a bigger group of people. Anyway, we all will have weapons of our own. Is there any law that forbids certain weapons?''

John blinked at her in wonder. ''In your world, is there a law against it?''

Anne just nodded. ''Yeah. In most countries. Only the army and police can have weapons and a few that made special tests. There are, of course, countries that do not mind, but most countries have a law against possession and use of weapons.''

''How amazing.'' He was clearly stunned by such a new option. ''Here you can use whatever weapon you want. But you can't go rampant and just kill people.''

''Of course not.'' Anne was a logical person, so she knew there are certain laws everywhere, even in those countries that permit its citizens to have weapons at home.

John smiled and pointed curiously at the bags. ''What is inside?''

''A secret...'' Anne just winked at him and disappeared, making him start to laugh.

''That child is truly mischievous.'' He was already over eighty and even tho he became young again, he couldn't deny the age difference between him and her, so he only saw her as a young person.

Back at her place, Anne saw Jenny making many packages and putting them one on top of the others. ''Mom, what is this?''

''These boxes hold our dry supply for a week, just in case we can't come here every day.'' She put another box on top of others and clapped her hands. ''Done. This is two months worth of food. If we have a chance, we can go and gather some fruits from southern Europe. It is harvesting time.''

She really wanted to garden many things in her own place first. But now if she has a chance, she planned to go and gather food from places, she knew that no one would be able to take and would be wasted.

Anne sighed and had to admit it was not a bad idea. ''Mom, let us rent a big boat. We can sell stuff from our world to this world, for rare items or plants. Or we can still the hunger. I planned to take those few tribes we met before, transport them to the fields, so they can harvest and take it home to eat it. It's better than to be wasted.''

Jenny nodded. When Anne was younger she loved to travel to the places no other humans went to, so Jenny always found a way for the two of them to travel far away. ''Then let's do that before we leave. I am sure they wouldn't mind.''

Anne nodded and the two women appeared in mid of dry land in front of a tribal chief, that greeted them with a warm smile. ''You two came.''

He didn't wonder or doubt them. As he was a shaman, he could feel a certain energy that came from the two people for a long time ago. He knew sooner or later they will show their true powers.

Anne approached and started explaining. ''...and now because this many people died, the food is there and no one is taking it. If you can gather the tribes and help gather the food, you can keep and share between you all. What do you say?''

The tribal chief nodded with calmness. ''Give me three days. Some tribes are far away and all they could do is to walk this far.''

''You mean those few tribes near the dark mountain?'' Anne suddenly had an idea.

He nodded in wonder. ''All other tribes are nearby, only those five tribes are so far away.''

Anne smiled suddenly. ''Chief can you trust me and come with me? I will take you there.''

He calmly accepted. He knew old stories about God's apprentices and deities, so he just accepted their help. ''I trust you.''

With that said, Anne just touched him while holding Jenny's hand and they disappeared in front of the frightened group of people, that just gathered to see the two strange people talking to their chief comfortably.

Near the dark mountains, a few children jumped in fear and screamed in alarm. A huge group of people rushed towards them, but then saw the tribe chief and respectfully looked at him. The more he explained, the more flabbergasted they became.

But none of them moved as he asked them to come and help. Just one woman and her children came forward. ''I must survive, as I have only two sick cows. I must feed my children. No other way to continue.''

The drought killed many animals and the situation is getting worse by the day. The zombie virus didn't even come here, as they lived so far away. But they had a worse problem. The climate changed. The days were hot even before, but they are used to it. But lately, the temperatures became too much even for them.

The wells started drying out and many people died only from that.

The tribe chief started yelling. '' The deities came to help you. If you want to come, come, if not stay here and die. I will take my whole village to that place.''

The woman took her children and Anne smiled. She was not even older herself and already had five children. ''May I ask about your husband?''

''He got attacked by a lion and was eaten alive. Now I have no one to support the family.'' The woman sighed. Looking at her pretty face and cute kids, Anne smiled.

''Later if we find a better place to go, will you come and stay there? For now, I will transport you to the Chief's village. You do not mind?'' She just blinked at the Chief's face and he agreed.

''Don't worry. I will find them a house.'' They waited until the woman didn't bring her personal items, the two cows and disappeared in front of those villagers.

''Better not to poke into those magical things, life is hard enough even without it...'' An older woman pushed her son, as she rushed away, while other villagers went back to their homes as well.
