We watched as the instructor's head burst into a spray of blood, skull fragments, and brain tissue. "Hello, children. I am Dorian." He smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you all."
The demon lord Dorian scanned the class, his eyes coming to rest on me. "Hello, young lightning wielder." He said slowly strolling towards me. He only took a few steps before a dome of earth encased him.
"Emil go alert the other instructors that a demon is on the grounds!" Cedric ordered.
"What! Why me?" Emil asked panicked.
"Because you're the fastest! Now hurry!" He demanded. Emil took off towards the school at almost supersonic speeds as Cedric's stone prison began to crack from the force on the inside.
I could tell from the look on his face he was struggling to hold the demon lord. "I'm going to need everyone else to start moving towards the school!" He seemed unusually calm.
The stone wall facing Cedric shattered, the demon lord rushed out in a blur and before anyone could react he had Cedric by the arm. Immediately it burst, the bone snapping in half, the muscles and tendons tearing away.
An earth spear shot out the ground from Cedric's feet impaling Dorian through the chest, giving Cedric a chance to retreat back.
His right arm dangled by a small thread of skin. The bone sticking out just above the elbow. He screamed as he ripped off the lower half and cast it aside.
Dorian smashed the spear dropping back to his feet, he removed the chunk that was still in his chest. "Your strong to be as young as you are. How old are you child?"
"I'm seventeen," Cedric said using packed earth to stop the bleeding from his wounded arm. He coated the rest of his body in earth to protect himself. "Before we continue let me ask you something. Why are you here?" Cedric questioned.
"I'm here for him," Dorian stated pointing to me in the group of people struggling to get inside the school. "I was close by and felt his power. So I decided to come to see if he was worth something. I never thought I would find an interesting earth user such as you."
"Well, thanks." Cedric laughed sarcastically at the compliment.
"Don't mention it," Dorian said as he vanished from sight covering the twenty yards that were between them in an instant. Appearing low he delivered a devastating punch to Cedric's left leg blowing the lower half of it off, leaving nothing from the knee down.
As Cedric fell forward Dorian caught him. His palm flat on Cedric's chest. "This was a good fight young man. You have my respect." Dorian said softly as Cedric was blown off his feet landing on his back five yards away.
He coughed up blood as he struggled to breathe grasping at his chest with his remaining arm. The nub that was once his right hand beating frantically on the ground, the packed dirt crumbling away.
As the instructors arrived Dorian took a bow saying. "Seems like playtime is over children until we meet again." Before he took off he added, "oh and young lightning wielder I wanna fight with you next time." With that, he vanished into the woods a few instructors following close behind.
The others rushed to Cedric attempting to save him. Blood flowed from his mouth and nose as his fingers moved in the dirt. His body convulsed and after a final gurgle for air. He was still. The light gone from his eyes. The instructors lifted his limp body and rushed to the medics ward, but everyone could clearly see.
Cedric was dead.
Tears filled my eyes as I looked at the spot where his body was just laying. I noticed something scribbled there.
'Sorry Kaiser.'
Tears ran down my face as I realized I never really knew or understood Cedric and I might have been wrong thinking he was just another dumb bully. He sacrificed himself for the safety of everyone else, for my safety, and he did it without hesitation.
