The exam only lasted ten minutes. Ending with the woman delivering a mighty roundhouse kick to my chin, I woke up face-down on the tile floor my jawline throbbing.
"I guess you're strong enough to be in the tournament." She shrugged at me.
"So what now?" I picked myself up off the ground and wiped the dirt from my clothes and face.
"The first round of matches start in two days, you will find out who your opponent is then. If you win you move on if you lose you'll probably die so yeah do your best."
She nonchalantly strolled out of the room, leaving me alone with this information. Once it dawned on me what she said I couldn't help but panic as I rushed out of the room to find her and ask if I had heard her correctly, exiting the room I scanned the hall but she was gone.
After searching for almost an hour I realized I wasn't going to find her. I decided to head home and prepare for my first fight in the tournament.
'I need to get some training in tomorrow to find out what I'm capable of' I sat at the dinner table in my house deep in thought as I absentmindedly chewed my food.
Holding my hand up I let a small amount of lightning pulse through it, I smiled as thin purple arches of lightning danced between my fingers.
Finishing my meal I washed the dishes, showered, and laid down to sleep.
'I'm going to learn the limits of my power tomorrow so I'm going to need my rest' these were my last thoughts of the night as I drifted off to sleep.
The following morning I was up before the sunrises, I went into the woods behind my home so I wouldn't damage anything around my home. When I felt that I was far enough away I did a few stretches then I began my training.
I let my magic flow through my body, electrical pulses started radiating from my body. I raised my hand focusing on a tree twenty feet away, a bolt of lightning shot from my hand connecting with the tree abruptly turning it to ash.
I stared at the spot where the tree used to be astonished at the new power I had, a smile appeared on my face as I let more magic flow through me and large arches of lightning rippled from my body carving deep trenches into the ground.
I spent the remainder of the day testing the limits of my new power and as the sun began to set I was covered in sweat and the terrain around me was demolished.
I bathed, ate, and climbed into bed for sleep. The next two days passed the same and as the sun rose on the third day I made my way into town. The first matches of the tournament were starting soon and I was eager to see how I compared to the other mythical youths of the kingdom.
I entered the familiar building of the arena, walking over to the counter.
"I'm a contestant in the competition today and the lady that gave me my entrance exam said I would find out who my opponent is before the first matches."
The young woman behind the desk smiled and asked for my name, I told her and after a few moments of searching through papers, she handed me a sheet.
Looking at it I saw that my opponent was a fire type mythical, she was seventeen years old and her name was Karla. Our match was the sixth fight of the day starting later in the evening.
With the information, I desired I found a secluded place around the arena and relaxed until it was time for my fight.
The time passed and as the light of day grew dim I was approached by an official of the tournament.
"Your match will be starting soon, please follow me to the entrance gate."
I followed the young man as he lead me down a corridor into a small brick chamber with a gate on the far side. The door closed behind me and I was left alone.
My excitement started to build as I anticipated what was coming next. There was no way I was going to lose.
