Chapter 58 - Flee [Chapter 58]

I look around frantically, standing up while slowly healing. I see Vex glaring off into the distance.

"Who, or what, was that?"

I ask while breathing heavily.

"I'm not sure, but it almost killed you in one hit. And from where I was standing, it didn't use it's main weapon. It only threw a normal iron sword at you. I'm also confused why the blade didn't break upon impact like it normally would."

Vex readies his sword.

"I'm sure it's following us. It seemed primarily fixated on you, so we will need to keep moving until we get a plan to fight back. Under normal circumstances I would fight back without caring, but we need to keep Blankk's body safe. And we also don't know how much stronger than us it might be."

Vex speaks slowly, but even his voice seems shaky. I see him bite the corner of his lip while glaring into the distance.

I've never seen him like this. Just what exactly is hunting me?

I look around, noticing Warren and Carrina  guarding Mia and looking shocked. Azeroth continues to hold and guard Blankk's body. Carrina slowly walks to me and stares into my eyes.

"I never thought Mia would be in this kind of danger, will you be able to defeat whatever that thing was? Because if you can't, being around you would be dangerous for Mia."

I stare back at her for a moment.

"I believe I can defeat him. There's no reason to leave the group."

I reply calmly. Carrina shakes her head.

"I haven't even joined your guild yet, I've just been following you because you said you needed my help. The more I watch the more I realize what you needed."

I tilt my head slightly.

"And what would that be?"

She stares at me, almost a trace of pity in her eyes.

"You didn't need people to help you accomplish your goal, you just didn't want to be alone."

I laugh at her words for a moment, a slight stinging pain in my chest and eyes.

"That's ridiculous, I don't mind being alone."

I reply as she shakes her head.

"I will stay with the group for a little while longer, but at the first sign that this opponent is too strong for you, I'll be forced to leave. And also, if you didn't care to be alone, why are you trying so hard to bring Blankk back. Especially since you didn't even shed a tear at his death, you only became enraged."

Her words sting and cut through me, but I just scoff and turn away.

"He's my friend, of course I want to bring him back to life."

I mumble under my breath. Vex suddenly speaks up.

"As much as I'm sure you're enjoying that friendly conversation, we have bigger problems. Its here."

I quickly look back to see tree's ripping up into the air far behind of us.

"Vex, how far out did you Teleport us?"

I ask quickly as he jumps back and grabs everyone again.

"Only one-hundred miles."

He says sarcastically, a hint of panic in his shaky voice. We once again teleport away. This time appearing in front of a massive body of water.

"I see, so it won't let me travel over large bodies of water for some reason."

Vex mumbles as I look around. I see a large shining city behind us. Large metal objects rolling down the road and flying in the sky.

"Uh, Vex, where are we?"

I ask quietly, marveling at the scenery.

"I teleported us to the far eastern coast. From the most north-west city we just came from, we're about nine-hundred miles away. I tried to teleport us to another continent, but for some reason it only let me come this far."

I look to Vex and shake my head.

"Why were you trying to get us to another continent?"

I ask as Vex looks to everyone, checking on them. Warren speaks up.

"I've never left Sathric, but looking at the technology around here, we are at the port to Vathric. Out of the five continents, they are the most technologically advanced. They produce all the technology that the planet has."

I shake my head.

"But, WHY? I don't understand why you wanted to go to a different continent. What is the plan?"

Vex looks to me and sighs.

"My thinking was; if we could get to another continent, that thing wouldn't be able to follow us. What other plans do we currently have to go off of?"

Vex says as I scratch the back of my head, my fingers running through my slightly oily hair.

"But we need to bring Blankk back to life, is there any technology that can do that?"

I ask, not sure what to expect. Vex and Carrina shrug, but Warren scratches his beard.

"I believe when I was last over here they were attempting to create resurrection tech, but that was almost four years ago. So maybe they made advancements on it?"

I nod and wave for Warren to lead the way. He stretches and readies himself.

"I don't exactly remember where it was I heard it, but I know where to go to get the info we need."

He says as he starts running ahead. We all run slowly, but seemingly fly passed the humans around us. Vex speaks up beside me.

"At the rate that thing was moving, we should have a few hours before it reaches us."

I nod and follow Warren to a large metal building with brightly colored signs all over it.

"The Black-Light District?"

A white and black sign points to a metal hatch. We pull it open and see a staircase leading down into an underground tunnel.

"My old friend was an info broker in the underworld, he would know if they made any breakthroughs."

Warren jumps into the hatch and starts walking down the steps. We all look to each other then follow. Azeroth jumps in before Carrina and Mia, and they close the hatch.

Darkness immediately fills the tunnel, but a strange glow allows us to see.

"I get a weird sense this place isn't trustworthy."

Vex mumbles under his breath.
