Alexander ran through the illuminated walls, the lava providing some light had made it a lot easier for Alexander to run in the night. Not too far behind him, three red, naked, demons ran. It wasn't a usual sight, demons chasing humans didn't happen normally, it would be the opposite.
Alexander looked around and realised that there was still a lot of demons outside. They sat in groups but it never seemed to look like a gathering, each one-eyed the circus-like performance happening in front of them. Nobody stepped in to stop the occurrence happening in front of them, it wasn't a normal sight by any means but no one watching could care enough to step in and say "stop it". Instead, snickering could be heard, maybe a laugh or two, a grin appeared almost everywhere the eye could see.
Alexander's legs jerked towards another hall. Subconsciously Alexander was getting more familiar with powering his body on spirit energy instead of the matter since it had gone such a long time since he had eaten anything. This will inadvertently make controlling magic easier for him.
The three demons did not seem to get tired, their running was monotone. Nevertheless, the demons stopped chasing Alexander because of boredom, chasing a hen was only fun for so long.
Alexander looked behind him and spotted nothing, his heart could rest easier now. Instead of backtracking, he decided that he would take a longer path back to his dorm, the reason for this was avoiding the demons. He walked through the slightly illuminated hall with his feet touching the stone floor beneath him. It had small cracks everywhere, it seemed to be rather rough, some spots felt and looked uneven.
The pain that had come from Alexanders stomach had been ignored for long enough and was now slowly dissipating instead of growing. The small pain was the signal that he needed food but the body wasn't made to pump that signal for more than a month. The human being would already be dead by then.
He passed his door into the dorm, as he laid down on the wooden bed he felt that it was a lot more comfortable now. His muscles were aching and felt tired, strangely, even though he had run such a long distance he wasn't gasping for air. He didn't feel the need to pant or refresh his lungs in any manner.
His head touched the wooden bed when he heard the salamanders voice in his mind.
"How dare you let them mistreat me"
"Why would I care about how they treat you"
Silence. Alexander felt goosebumps rise upon his body, he had learnt to fear silence because it had been followed by hellish pain. But no such pain came, actually, the silence felt more silent than usual. Eventually, Alexander dozed off and started his new day.
When he opened his eyes the first thing he realised was that the lighting hadn't changed. He felt refreshed but could still feel some of the ache hadn't left him in his legs, nevertheless he rose up out of the bed. Alexander was shocked to find his demon roommate sitting on his bed. Alexander had seen the three demons burn his face until there was only bone showing, but in front of him was the demon with a mere skin burn on his face.
When the demon realised that Alexander was looking at him he snorted before he left the story. Alexander thought the demon was acting strange even for a demon. Alexander took out his white schedule and looked at it, his first lesson would be monster combat. He started making his way towards it.
The class was filled with naked demons, it was amusing to Alexander how different their bodies were. Some demons were skinny and reached up to three meters, others were barely the size of Alexander's knee. The majority was Alexander's size though. The student stood in a square formation, multiple lines behind each other as the teacher had ordered. The teacher stood in front of them, apart from all the other students the teacher was wearing a black cap, the type children found in a store and wore until their parents forced them to take it off
The room they stood in was large, Alexander saw that in the back end of the room there were multiple cages with little blue creatures inside of them; he got a general idea of what the task would be.
"This will be the third lesson and we will be going over how to fight, Mongolians. They're small dangerous creatures usually found in dense forests. Mongolite has four black spider eyes, they have blue short fur surrounding them, this fur is especially resilient to fire. Their teeth are usually spent for eating leaves and are flat, but don't be fooled if a Mongolite successfully bites you, you won't be getting rid of it until you kill it. Their claws are were the real dangers hides, their barely two centimetres long but they are extremely sharp, they cut you down once they have restrained you. The Mongolite is usually found in groups of ten, a single mongolite is weak but multiple are deady"
The teacher snapped his fingers and one of the cages further back opened, out of it flew a supposed Mongolite flew towards them. It landed a mere two meters away from them and was clearly restrained with the teacher's magical energy, Alexander found it cool how easily the teacher restrained the mongolite.
"Who wants to be the first one to fight it?"
Multiple different hands instantly rose up, Alexander's stayed down. He had no practical skills he could use against the Mongolite yet. The teacher ended up picking one of the students who hadn't raised his hands, it had been the person to the left of Alexander. Alexander looked at him, the demon was about twenty centimetres shorter than Alexander but his eyes looked emotionless and cruel.
The Mongolite has flown a distance away and then released from the magical grip. The demon who had been chosen made his way towards it, he walked casually as if not recognizing the Mongolite as a real enemy.
The Mongolite didn't dare approach the demon, it stood on its ground and growled at him. It looked unnatural as if it wasn't used to being alone. The demon scoffed as he saw the pathetic view in front of him, but once he had taken a step too close the Mongolite leapt at him. He blasted it with fire that he released through his arm and it hit the Mongolite straight in the face but there was not enough power in it too affect the Mongolite or even slow it down.
The Mongolite landed on the demon's face, with a near untouched fur. With its sharp claws, it started shredding the demons face brutally. After it had gouged the demon's eyes out and the demon's face was bloody everywhere, only then did the teacher pull the Mongolite of him.
"Should teach you not to underestimate your opponent, you punk!"
