Spe was the seismic monitor in our division. His dark brown hair was tucked behind his ears, as usual. A nervous expression crossed his face.
"Excuse me everyone, but I need to show you something." He took over the holograms and a live feed projected in front of us.
At first, I could not make out what all the dots in the screen were. After surveying the read outs for a few moments, I knew exactly what it was.
"It is a coordinated attack across the planet." I gasped.
All the heads swiveled around to stare at me. I guess I was the first to make sense of the map.
"Precisely." Spe gave an exasperated sigh. "This is the first evidence supporting our various theories. One might suggest the invader is large enough to cover our plant. Whereas I think they are spawns of the original invader."
"How could they all coordinate their attack then?" As soon as the council woman asked, she gasped. "This proves this parasite is more advanced than we thought. What is it doing to our planet?"
"All other read outs are stable." Spe shrugged. "We aren't sure the depth of its strength."
"Or magnitude." I whispered.
"Thanks, Spe. Launch a sound wave response." Certain decibels sent the invader back further under the surface. It was a temporary solution but one that could minimize destruction to the surface.
"Council, this one of three needs to be resolved now. When is the meeting with the Alliance?" I said, stronger than I felt.
"Two days time."
"Then let us hear the arguments. You can decide by fire, water, earth if you must." At that a few chuckled.
A game we played as children. Fire beats earth. Earth beats water. Water beats fire.
"We would like to begin with the proposal for the evacuation of our planet."
"We defer to you. Proceed." I knew this would be a long conversation.
The chip only provided concrete data and why they proposed the idea. This discussion would unveil the pros and cons. Not that I hadn't already made my own lists.
Spe was waiting by the door. You had to be released from the chamber with permission from a council member. I stared at him for a moment. He was finally settling into himself. Spe always had large hands, ears, and nose but as a young man he grew into them. His light brown eyes had flecks of gold in them. He hadn't smiled inside the room, but he normally wore a lopsided grin with a dimple on his cheek.
"Before we begin, can someone dismiss our messenger." The elderly council woman beside me said. "He's distracting Scholar Calypso from her full attention."
The council member closest to the door verbalized relief and Spe quickly departed. I could feel my cheeks warm at the chiding.
"I assure you, my attention is all yours."
