Chapter 7 - Spe

When she said my name, I lost my train off thought. Calypso was in the council meeting. How strange.

Sitting at my desk, looking over the seismic activity based on the smoke teams I deployed, I was content. The smoke seemed to have made the invader docile. The activity has ceased for now.

My mind wandered back to Calypso. Her red hair hung to her waste, in intricately woven braids. Her eyes were a soft brown that changed light to dark by the day. Her frame was slender with large breast and proportioned child bearing hips.

I shook my head back and forth. Already I felt myself hardening at the thought of her bearing my children. Soon she would be of marrying age. But she was still a Minor. I am an Elite.

Calypso has to be the first Minor offered a position in our government. She has also quickly moved up the ranks. Even though we started the same time, she passed my title in our branch of the government. Granted, we are one of hundreds, but it is unprecedented.

I smacked my forehead with the palm of my hands in realization. Calypso was voting. She had to have been. She was alone with no team. When she presents to the council she is accompanied by a team. I wonder what decision had to be made that required her assistance.

A bell chimes indicating the end of my shift. I looked down the hall to the meeting room. The door was still shut tight. Calypso's office was on the way out. I pressed a button and the visual display read OUT. Which means she was still in the building but out of the office. If she had left it would've said GONE.

As an Elite of marrying age, I own my own dwelling. It is big enough to house 20 individuals. The irony is that we don't have to be multi-generational like the others. Only parents and children live together until the child is of marrying age. Then we are given our own dwelling. It had been a few months since I moved out of our family home. Living in the big space felt lonely.

The Nadir left my house in pristine condition as usual. I noticed she left a note in the kitchen.

DINNER UNMADE AS ELITE INDICATED "NONE" ON WEEKLY MENU.

I wanted to pick something up on the way home but was distracted by thoughts of work. I blinked five times and my retina displayed delivery options with their menu and time wait. I chose a place that delivered chicken with rice and beans on a bed of kale. This was a guilty pleasure of mine. My parents always called it Nadir food. Honestly, it was probably too expensive for Nadir.

While my display was active, I looked through my comms for the day.

Dad: YOUR DEPARTMENT HEAD PRAISES YOUR QUICK INITIATIVE IN SHARING IMPORTANT INFORMATION. WELL DONE.

I rolled my eyes, he constantly checks up on me at work. After all, he is second in command of the entire government.

Mom: YOU HAVE SEATS AT THE THEATRE ON 6.42 WITH A MISS. MORE DETAILS TO COME.

My mother, the matchmaker. The date given was only three nights away. If I declined, the wrath of that woman would surely kill me.

Delivery: FOOD ARRIVED.

As I lifted the utensil to my mouth, my mind drifted back to Calypso's plump lips. If only she were the woman accompanying me to the theatre.
