Chereads / Delphine of Moria / Chapter 51 - An Immortal Creature

Chapter 51 - An Immortal Creature

Simon thought this night would be far different, and he and Delphine would encounter something far more sinister. It turns out that he was correct about not turning out the way he thought would happen. Delphine and Simon turned around and noticed Godbrand was standing behind them as they stared at the open world. The enormous cliff led down to the next section of the forest, where it was impossible to get there. They could not jump down because they would die instantly and possibly get impaled by the tree barks and limbs.

Godbrand's throat has a massive scar from Delphine's greatsword, but he managed to heal himself and gain all of his strength back. The color of his eyes was now red and black; his face is now covered with many veins, and his sword has been transformed into something more dark and sinister. This is proof that he is more than just a demon and proved to his enemies that he is an immortal creature who cannot die even while pierced with a sword. Delphine knew she would have to do more than just penetrate his body; she would have to get stronger and likely tear him apart with her bare hands. Then, Godbrand walks closer towards Delphine and Simon, and he pulls out his greatsword and holds onto it.

His sword begins to glow with many markings and an ancient text which goes from the tip to the bottom of the blade.

"How the hell are you still alive?" Simon asked. Delphine said nothing or asked anything to the risen warrior as his eyes were enough to make him desire revenge against the ebony knight.

Then Godbrand answered and said to them, "As you can see, I am immortal. My existence is inevitable, and you are never strong enough to defeat me. At this point, everyone knows exactly who you are. I will find you in that accursed soul of yours, and I will use it to my benefit. I have lived for many centuries and have seen everything that needs to be seen. I know everything that needs to be known.

"My legion will rise, and soon, my master will enter me once I'm dead. Mephiles, the Demon Wolf, will once more rule the kingdom of Midland. You will bow your heads before your one true king. Your time of atonement for Mephiles will come, and there is nothing you can do to change it. You are nothing but a useless hunter who walks in the darkness. My sword will not fail to drag you down to hell."

"Whatever it is you want from us, we don't have it. Move on in your life. I got my own problems," Delphine said. At this point, she has her hand on her sword and ready to pull it out and slice the Viking again.

"Do you have what it takes to survive in that mountain? Do you believe you can just turn away from your obligations?" Godbrand asked.

"I already have someone to believe in. I don't need another god or king to serve," she said.

"You should be down on your knees thanking Mephiles for the privilege of being shown mercy to his ultimate power. His kingdom will be the greatest kingdom the world has ever seen!" He said.

"You should be down on your knees, thanking me for not killing you where you stand. I'll do more than just kill you. I'll rip your head off and give it to your kind as warning."

Delphine refused to swear loyalty to the king of all demons and had no desire to die under his rule. She could care less about Godbrand and what he has to say to her and Simon as he lived even longer.

"Just know for the record that whatever decision you're about to make will affect you for the rest of your life. Are you ready to face that decision?" Godbrand asked. Then, he walks towards Delphine and stands in front of Simon as he backed up towards the cliff.

Before he could take another step backward, Simon noticed he and Delphine were near the edge of the cliff.

"I'm ready to finish what I came here to do. And I won't let you stand in my way," Delphine said.

"Oh, yes. Nobody stands in your way," Godbrand said. Delphine stood there and became shocked at his words and his meaning as she was ready to cut him down.

Suddenly, Godbrand pushes Simon down the cliff and made the young hunter fall to his doom.

"NO!!" Delphine shouted. She then pulls out her greatsword and slices the Viking demon in his face, and she runs towards the cliff and dives down.

She no longer cared about Godbrand and his intentions because she could not bring herself to listen to any more nonsense. She now cared about Simon and what to do if he dies from the fall; she would put all of the blame on herself. There was a large river to the next surface of the ground; she continued to fall towards Simon to catch him. Then, Delphine awakens her inner-demons with all of her anger and rage, and she begins running down on the surface of the wall. She ran fast enough to take hold of his arm and managed to prevent him from landing inside the lake.

Delphine pierced her sword onto the wall of the cliff and had her other arm holding onto Simon's body. Then, she has her legs onto the wall and jumps towards the land next to the lake. She holds his body on her shoulders and made sure he does not drop to his death. Delphine always cared about her people even if they cast her out, but she would never abandon those who choose to be by her side. Then, she lands on her feet on the soil ground and still did not release the young hunter from her grasp.

She then puts her greatsword back in her holder and begins to stroll away from the lake. Delphine has already seen enough terror and death from the people she truly cares about; her presence alone could lead to an outbreak of tragedy and misunderstandings. Then, she lays him down to see if he is still breathing, and she lays her ear onto his chest to find out if he is alive. Delphine could hear quick heartbeats and rapid breathing through his lungs; Godbrand pushed him hard enough that his lungs were getting too sensitive. He could have quickly died from the penetration of his body, and Delphine would be left all by herself.

"Simon, I'm sorry. This is my doing. I dragged you into this," Delphine said. Her mind had so many things happening all at once, and she could not control her emotions while seeing Simon like this.

"We'll find a way out of here, I promise. I swear that I will follow the moon and never let you go," Delphine said. Then, she picks him up and starts to carry him; she found her way back on the dark road while holding his body with both hands.

She never forsook her promise to her comrade, and she would always fight her enemies for his sake. Delphine continued to walk forward and not stop for anything; she did not see any tracks from the night creatures and where they might be hiding. Since it was already midnight, she could feel their presence and needed to get ready to fight them. Delphine tries to find a place for Simon to rest himself, and there was hardly anywhere to put him in the dark. She may never know what should happen if she left him in the forest and fought back to defend him.

Simon might probably wake up and search everywhere for Delphine and might be trapped in the vast forest. She refused to let that happen and have the kind of feeling that will make her powerless against her opponents. Suddenly, Delphine started to feel the presence of the night creatures increasing and could her blood pressure rising just by hearing their shrieks. She immediately found a large tree beside the trail and gently places him on the grass. She then looks to her left and right and thankfully saw no beast coming towards them to rip them to shreds.

Then, Delphine looked at Simon and said to him, "You stay here and rest. You may not have done as much this night, but that damnable Viking managed to press deeply into your chest. I'll stay here and make sure that no demon ever touches you again. I will protect you until the day I draw my last breath."

She felt his head and saw he was burning up from that shove and only felt his chest, giving him so much pain. Then, she looks to the horizon and could feel an entire legion of demons coming towards her.
