Chapter 24 - The Lion

After exiting the princes room, I made my way over to the bar. They were going to take their time deciding a punishment for me but I did not have the time to worry about that. They would not kill me so it was of little importance to me.

When I got to the bar, much to my dismay, Kristine and Ally were sitting at the bar where I usually sat. As Ally and I locked eyes, Kristine looked in my direction. There would be no getting out of talking to her now.

"Kristine." I said simply waving the bartender down.

"Skytel, I just came so we could talk. I heard you were joining the recruit tournament. Is that true?" Kristine asked sipping away at her drink.

"It is." I said without wasting words. Even though I had no interest in talking back it still would be rude to just totally ignore her.

"No one else will tell you and they keep telling me to let it be a surprise but you may want to watch out for a few of the recruits; Hyde, Supra, and Lion to be exact." Kristine said now looking at me seriously. Those names meant nothing to me. I had already decided I would decimate the new recruits in the tournament so my power would never come under doubt again.

"Oh, and why is that? What could they possibly possess that would stand any chance against me? You have made the mistake of thinking you have seen all my tricks. What you saw before was little more than a test of my strength. Now I know how strong I am and no one can stand against me. No one will stand against me." I said confidently. Just hearing about even her doubt put me in an extremely bad mood.

"I hear you, I am just saying. Be careful with them. They are all extremely talented fighters and will not be as easy to deal with as the rest. If they join forces and fight you as a single unit, I am not sure if even a veteran vampire would be a match for them." Kristine said still looking. She sounded sure of her words but I was not going to let it phase me.

"Why would I ever worry about them? I have not even heard anything about their entry tests." I laughed cockily. To my knowledge, I was the only one who showed outstanding results at the test.

"Well, they did not do amazing but I suspect they took it as little more than a joke. Lion did manage to land a few solid blows against the guards and one against the prince but the others I am not sure. I did not watch." Kristine said thinking back. It was almost like she was lost in thought.

"Oh? Well isn't that quite interesting to hear. We will see what they are like when they are serious. If they do not fight me seriously, they may end up very badly hurt. You would be wise to relay that message to them." I said back before getting up and leaving. I motioned to the bar hand that I would be back later to talk with him.

It was already rather late in the night but I was so annoyed, I had to get out of the base. As I did some hunting in the forest, I heard someone else near. With the tournament approaching, I could not take a chance at being injured by the Moonwalkers but if they were this close to the base, I had to know to relay it to the princes.

I jumped onto a nearby tree branch before quietly making my way over to where the noise was. As I approached, I saw someone standing in the middle of a circle of Moonwalkers. She was outnumbered 8-1. But she looked confident. Just watching from this distance, I could see she had some scratches and bites on her. She looked like they did not phase her at all.

Whether she felt she could handle them or not, as a fellow vampire, I could not turn tail and run when someone was overrun with Moonwalkers. Instantly, I transformed and jumped to where she was in the circle. Even from far away, I could see she was gorgeous but being right next to her, she was far past gorgeous. There were no flaws on her at all.

"Need some help?" I asked as we stood back to back. There were some bodies sprawled across the forest floor in various spots. It looked as though the fight had been going for quite some time.

"No, not really but if you want to party too, who am I to object." She said before wiping blood from her mouth. The Moonwalkers continued circling around us before attacking. They would not stay still for any time at all. These dogs had some experience fighting vampires. As they walked around, they started closing the circle around us limiting our space. When the circle was ten meters away from us, they charged in. These Moonwalkers had experience fighting vampires as they never stayed still. They knew stillness meant death.

The one who charged at me charged straight forward. As he launched himself at me, I threw my claws straight forward like a dagger. My hand went in his mouth and down his throat killing him instantly. His limp body fell to the floor before anyone made a move. I jumped over to the other Moonwalkers in my direction. As I landed on one's shoulders, I bit down into his neck and tore his throat out.

"Ugh, disgusting. I hate mutt blood." I said tauntingly before I spit the remnants of blood out of my mouth and wiped with my sleeve. Luckily I was wearing my black tux so a little blood would not ruin the suit. Two more of their dwindling numbers attacked after that. Fighting them was easy. I could tell where they would attack before they even finished pushing their arms/legs out because their attacks were incredibly linear. There were no feints or misdirection at all.

I started to get bored dodging them and took the opportunity to look over in my partner's direction. I was amazed at the sight of her mid battle. She never attacked first but expertly countered everything the Moonwalkers did. Watching her was the most graceful thing I had ever seen.

A Moonwalker threw a series of claws, each of which she dodged and punched out. Every attack landed flush where it was supposed to. The Moonwalker tried biting at her next but she leaned back just far enough to dodge before throwing her claw down piercing the Moonwalker's throat. He fell lifeless to the grass.

I wanted to turn my full attention to her so I stopped messing around and got serious. The Moonwalkers were still attacking me but were doing almost no damage. When I turned to face them, I spun in a circle tripping one and kicking the other in the head. He fell over from the force of the kick which I used the momentum of to slam his head into the ground. The one on the ground was squirming to avoid any damage.

When I kicked full force into his ribs, he coughed up blood before flying back through the air directly into a tree. If it was anything else except a giant sequoia tree, he would've gone through it but instead when he hit it, it bent his body back and shattered his spine. He died on impact. The rest of the fight was quick and all my opponents were lying on the ground dead.

Seeing as she did not seem to need help, I sat on the grass to watch her. Even watching was amazing as she was so graceful. She never over committed to any attacks but always hit successfully. Her dress flared from the power of her attacks but every time it seemed like it would rise to show her butt or personal area, the dress would fall back down. It was exciting each time I thought I would get to see something but was disappointed.

She took no more than a few moments to dispatch all her opponents as well. We spared no one in the fight but none of them seemed to be leading the rest of the group. They were just a pack of loners fighting together as I saw. She motioned me over as she turned back towards the base before beginning to walk.

"I am impressed. It has been a while since I saw someone with your skill in battle. What was your name again?" I asked the woman as we walked side by side. She was incredible and I had to get her name. Taking her along on missions almost seemed like a no-brainer.

"They call me Lion around the base." She said simply. Interestingly enough, there was only humbleness in her voice. It was almost like she did not think her name held any weight.

"Ah, so you are the famed Lion, are you? That explains your skill level then. I was warned to watch out for you in the upcoming tournament." I said back as we walked. When I mentioned the tournament, she perked up a bit and actually looked at me for the first time.

"What is your name, if you do not mind me asking?" She replied. I felt weak in the knees seeing her look at me. Being this close and seeing her look at me interested in me sent shivers down my spine.

"I am Skytel. You should know of me." I said confidently. Every vampire should have known about me by then.

"Hmm, interesting indeed. I see your reputation for cockiness is true." The girl said shaking her head and facing forward again. She must not have liked the way I answered her as she seemed to lose interest in talking after that. The woman only gave me short one word answers the rest of the way back to the base. I would make sure to show her my overwhelming strength in the tournament. I wanted her attention more than anyone before and I would do whatever it took to have it.
