I woke up the next night again in the infirmary. No one was waiting by the bed for me like usual. Not having Diach around filled me with a small panic. He was always with me when I was here.
"Doctor!" I called out to someone. No one came after the first call so I called louder a second time. This time the princes entered my bay.
"Well, well, finally woken up, have we?" Hoizon said casually. The events of the previous night flashed through my mind looking at him.
"I really am sorry about last night. It was not my intention to disrespect you all nor this base." I said pleading for mercy. Hideki scoffed at my request but Hoizon immediately silenced him.
"It is ok. I am not sure that thing last night was you at all. We have never encountered anything like it but it was strong; and fast. Among even the princes, none are as strong as you were trying to break free from my hold last night." Hoizon said remembering holding my arms stretched to pin me down. He was usually much stronger than me but last night I could tell he was barely holding on.
"And angrier, much angrier. Whatever that thing was, we need to get to the bottom of it. I suspect it is one of the symptoms of the transformation you have. We will get it tested and figured out." Hoizon said mercifully. I was never as glad as that moment that he was the leader of the clan.
The princes took their exit then before some doctors came in. I looked at them in disgust as they had ignored my calls for them. It was indubitable that they heard me. No one could deny it. They just chose not to come to me.
"We will be running some tests while the princes are around to figure out what that other you is capable of as well as how it comes out." One of the doctors said looking down at his clipboard.
"No, the fuck you will not." I lashed out angrily. If they wanted to ignore me, I would ignore them. It was them that wanted answers. The only thing I knew is in time of great surprise or probably approaching death, that other me would come. I could just ask it if I had any other questions.
The doctors left me alone after seeing I was going to be as uncooperative as possible. After sitting up in the bed, I closed my eyes to talk.
"Hello? You there?" I called out into the darkness in my head. It was silent for a moment before it answered.
"I am not an it. You have referred to me as it since last night. I am a part of you." The voice said annoyed. He had a very short temper with me which I had noticed the night before.
"I am sorry. I have some questions for you, though." I said to the voice. He was much quicker to answer after clearing what he needed.
"What is it?" The voice asked simply.
"First off, what exactly are you? You say you are a part of me but I do not remember you or anything about you." I said plainly. He was very cryptic when describing himself to others and I was hoping he would give me a straight answer.
"I am you, as I have stated. It would probably be closer to say I am everyone. Every human, vampire, and Moonwalker has me inside of them. The voice in your head that talks back when you are thinking and the part of your mind that wants to rip people apart when you feel they have done something wrong to you; that is all me." The voice said before going silent just as quick as he responded.
"Hm, that is interesting. If you are part of everyone, where do you come from exactly?" I asked more pointedly. I figured this question was a toss up as he may not even know himself.
"Oh, what an interesting question. I came from the time of the first humans. When you evolved into the Neanderthals you used to be, I was born. I was actually something different before but we have long since died off so now I am here." The voice said cryptically before going silent again.
"And what were you before exactly?" I asked dissatisfied with his half-answers. My patience was growing thin but I knew this was a talk we had to have before going forward.
"I was a creature of the night or more precisely a supernatural entity. The gods of the old time put my kind on this planet to keep the humans on the correct evolutionary train. This is the second time I can remember that you humans have been here. The first time ended badly with all dead. That is why there are underwater cities and the rumor of Atlantis. I am not even near the oldest, nor the strongest among my kind, though, so there may have been other civilizations before that or whatever the case may be. But to my knowledge, I am the last one left." He said teaching me of his history.
"That still does not tell me what you were." I said trying to get him back on track without pissing him off.
"Oh yes, I forgot you asked that in that ramble." He said laughing. "I am what the humans would call a demon I suppose. It is the closest thing you humans have in any of your religious texts or learnings of what I am. Except I am from a different plane of reality. In my reality, humans are few as we have already killed most of them off for food or as toys. Some of your religious texts about us is inaccurate, though, but I will not get into that now. The least I can say is I am one of the younger demons, a child if you will. But I am a few hundred-thousand years old on my plane but in your existence, I am roughly 8 million or so years old so compared to humans, I am very very old. But there are some among my kind that are millions of years old, a few billions. The oldest I ever heard of is slightly older than your universe."
"You are that old?" I asked in bewilderment. I knew he was old but wow. Hearing it out loud even shocked me.
"Yes." He said without wasting any words. That habit of his was mildly annoying and did not make for a great conversationalist.
"Next question: you took over my body last night while we were battling, how long do you have when you have it or how do I go about getting it back?" I asked not thinking about how it was divulging his weakness.
"I was not expecting you to be so bold right off the bat. To answer your question, we both have control at all times so you can just take it back if you want when you want. Watch." He said before he started raising my arm. I tried to put it down but he was stronger so it was useless.
"Even though I am much stronger than you as I am much older than you, you can still take back control whenever you so please. Just shout in your mind to relinquish control and you will take the handles. I would be careful before doing this as when you do, I am sent into the darkness for 24 hours so I will not be able to come to your aid if you get in a dire situation. If you die, we both die. And I rather like this body so I would appreciate not losing it." He said.
As far as I could tell, he was rather cooperative so I would not have to worry about him running rampant in my body. This could come to be a beautiful operation.
"My last question for now: can you give me intel on others since you are technically inside everyone?" I asked interested in the wealth of information he may have.
"I cannot. It has been some time since I was able to have full control over someone like I can with you, around the time of the Greek gods. But since I have so much control over you, my memories of everyone else is hazy. I do not remember much of others minds or inner workings. The only things I do remember clearly are your life, and my own millennia past." He said trying to remember the details of anyone. I was getting flashes of darkness as he tried.
"Oh, well that stinks. Ah well, we will make this partnership happen regardless." I said to the voice happy with the conversation.
"Before I go, I would caution you not to go against the princes. I can see in your mind you want to take over this clan but that is not possible as of now. It seems as you get older, I remember more of my own life and hence get stronger. As of now, we are no match for them but in a few years, we should be strong enough to at least fight them one on one and win, even if by a small margin. But as of now, they would kill us with little difficulty. We will have to carefully plan out how we will take over the vampires." The voice said before cutting off and fading into the darkness.
When I came to, a doctor was standing in my face looking at me. He backed away when my eyes started moving around.
"What the hell were you doing?" I asked annoyed. Waking up to a man standing inches away was not a welcome sight.
"Ah, you are back. What happened? What were your symptoms?" The doctor asked waiting to write my answer on his clipboard. I could absolutely not tell them of my conversation under any circumstances so I lied.
"Nothing. I just lost consciousness for a moment. Probably a side effect of whatever happened last night." I said looking him directly in the eye challengingly. He wrote down what I said on the clipboard before exiting. I was alone once more in the bay. The curtains were closed and I had been talking while awake the whole time so I never noticed the slight shuffles coming from the other side of the curtain.
After standing up and whipping the curtains away, I saw Lion lying in the bed next to me. She was in somewhat bad condition but not nearly as bad as Odesza on the opposite side of my section.
When she saw me on the other side, she sat up and scooted away in a panic. I could see the fear from the previous night on her face. She was terrified of what I may do seeing as I was in much better condition than she was.
"Calm yourself. I am only here to apologize. Whatever happened last night, I was not in control." I started before being interrupted.
"He is correct. I was." The voice said from my mouth. Hearing the same voice as last night sent Lion into a frenzy. But she seemed to calm down when she heard my actual voice again.
"He was. I do not know what he had in mind but it was the first time I had ever seen him. He will not hurt you anymore. I will keep him in check." I said trying to ease her worries.
"What is it? Who are you?" Lion said slowly lying back down. The more she saw I was in control, the more calm she seemed to be talking to me.
"I cannot explain that now but I will in the future. You have my word." I said dutifully. She seemed like she could be a powerful ally and I did not want to lose her.
"Fine. But we still are not even. We may never be friends or even acquaintances." She said watching me carefully. Really looking at her, I could see now that she was a gorgeous woman. Her waist length red hair shaped her face perfectly. She seemed to be wearing an almost skin-colored lipstick. She had dark blue eyes, different than the other vampires. All vampires had some shade of blue eyes but everyone I had encountered thus far had light blue or grey eyes.
Her eyes were a perfect opposite from the rest of her face but it worked harmoniously. Her frame was small but toned in all the correct places. Usually she had a determined look on her face but seeing her relaxed helped her beauty. I was smitten with her. Her voice was like music in my ears every time she talked.
This would be a multi-day, even multi-month ordeal trying to gain her confidence. I was more than willing to put the time in if it meant I would have a chance with her.
