Rose did not go into work for the next few days. She had let the doctors who were in the staff meeting know that she had come up with a solution, but would need a few days to prepare. Most were kind, yet some filled with assumptions looked at her disprovingly. Remembering their looks and suggestions made her face go warm. "I'm only doing this for the good of his future." She had told the ones that made to think she was taking advantage of the situation.
"It isn't their business anyway." She grumbled as she began straightening up her home. As she had told Sam, she did have an apartment, yet it was a ground floor condo with a nice back yard leading to a walk around garden. She thought of the runs they had done outside the hospital and thought of how much he might like the change of scenery.
She picked up a stray piece of clothing that had been strewn over the couch and placed it in her washer. She sighed as she looked at the place. It had been a few days already since she had told Sam to move into her spare room. She was supposed to get him at the end of the day today, yet no matter how much she cleaned, her place still looked a mess. "Will he care?" She said to herself as she picked up a blanket and folded it.
She thought about it for a moment. He was given a place to live, would he really care what state it was in when he got to it, as long as he was allowed inside. She sat on the couch, clutching the folded blanket. It was still early morning, and Sam was not expected to be discharged from the hospital until the evening. She hugged the blanket to her chest as she thought of the prospects of having a room mate. Would he clean up after himself? She couldn't imagine him as a slob since getting to know him, but that could be because he had no possessions. Would it be troublesome only having one bathroom in the apartment? She had decided on this home due to the scenery outside, she was after all a bachelorette. How was she to know that one day she would share this place with a man?
Rose's mind was racing with all of the potential problems she might find with the situation she had gotten herself into. Instead of dwelling on them, she got changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Opening her screen door, her running shoes touched the early morning dew. She could feel the wetness through the sides, cooling them slightly. She did the stretches that Sam had shown her to do, even though some of them looked silly. He had told her the importance of each one and made her promise to do them before any exercise.
Thinking of the time and care he put into everything put her at ease. If someone cared enough about her to ensure she didn't strain herself, surely he would put as much thought into the home he would be living in, so she wouldn't have to strain herself on his behalf.
That thought, as well as all others drifted away as she put in her headphones and began her run. Since Sam was able to, they had started with just a half a mile run, but with time, they began to run a mile, then two. She was now able to run three miles at twenty minutes, which was all the time she needed in order to get her thoughts straight.
Stepping back through the door, she pulled the blinds and stripped her clothes off, throwing them in the washer. She wiped the sweat from her forehead as she went to the bathroom and turned the hot water on in the shower. In minutes, steam went out the open door as she allowed the heat over her body. Steam surrounded her as she closed her eyes, feeling the hot water on her face.
After a long shower, she dried off and put on a pair of jeans and a colorful blouse she had picked out before her run. It was a purple and fit snug, the sleeves were waves of fabric that hung to her forearms.
"I'm going to have a room mate." She sighed as she grabbed the keys to her car. "I guess I should get the room ready." She smiled as she left her apartment, shutting the door and leaving her worry behind.
