Chapter 6 - Passing the Magic exam

As you all know I am the Head examinor Katush and I'm one of the gods chosen so I am more then happy to be able to choose this lower ones last test. Perhaps we will see something decent for once if she dies.. uhum I mean fails too bad. However if she passes even I will agree it will be accepted into the school.

Such pretty words just to tell me he wanted me to die not just fail but actually perish in this task. What kind of test could he be planning to make the sky's darken so. Where did this deathly chill come from and why the hell was he choosing me to hate this much. Naw it probably wouldn't matter who he encountered at this time I was just the unlucky one. Or in this case the unlucky one, if I died he would prove that were indeed lesser beings but if I passed I would gain a eternal enemy.

A massive number of guards entered the area each holding a long chain hooked to something within a massive cage covered in cloth. Something inside creaked and pulled and the guards fought back barely keeping it still. When it finally was pulled into the middle of the testing area, the guards whistled and then dropped the chains simultaneously and ran back to the sides of the arena.

A grating and loud snapping sound was heard but then nothing and we all seemed to hold our breaths waiting. Latest spoke up and said very causally heal it if you can, or give it peace if you can't ether will be acceptable. Remember though if we have to step in to stop it from causing injury your test will be considered a fail.

At the sound of his voice whatever was in the cage grow aggitated and hit the walls of its cage. It's movements sent out waves of odours of the dead and bone on bone indicated that this was not something easy to deal with. It was dealing with something dead or at least mostly dead how was this happening. To deal with something like this you would have to be proficient in third or fourth level spells.

In fact most would need to face the dead in a party of at least four because they usually appeared in groups where magic had been used upon stacks of dead or dying. Only Anubus could bring back the dead with intelligence, other would only bring forth mindless being filled with rage and anger. Being who would kill anything that moved or making noise, even a moving leaf would be targetted.

Now that it had hit something it was attacking its cage relentlessly doing what it could to destroy it. What could I do? How could I stop a dead being not even my beginning book of third level spells told of how to cure the dead. Smash a bar snapped and flew across the ground a slim partially flash covered arm reached out. Pieces of decaying flash fell from kits bones leaving rotting muscles and veins as its only covering.

It's arm had been just a little bigger then mine but that would make any difference in the end it would continue attacking until it was burnt or was dismembered. And I meant almost complete dismemberment or a combo of the two. Perhaps if I could drop a rock the size of a house on it that might work but did know that spell ether. Best case maybe I could hurt it with a fire ball but I barely could start a fire with the one spell I knew for fire.

Think dam it it had managed to break another bar, thankfully it was not next to the last one. That's it I could get it to move away from that area I could buy myself a little more time. I hobbled towards the centermost spot figuring it be strongest there and made a noise with my foot on the ground and thank the gods it move in that direction.

It started back in with its relanting attack on the bars again, I could see flashes of its body through the bars and felt sick as more of its flesh hit the ground. It had a body type like a elf and the thought made me suddenly insanely mad. This was one sick bastard to make a elf kill another elf who had been twisted into the undead. Worst then ever because our kind did not turn easily even, Anubus left us alone as it was considered a crime against the earth itself. Our god would kill without a second thought if he was to see this. It was basically a slap to his face and his very beliefs, wars between the gods were started in this way.

Bang two bars broke outward and allowed it to slid its whole arm out luckily its skull couldn't fit through. Erin dam it think or you are going to lose or die and nether was a good thought. What had I heard over the years from every one about the dead, my book learning had various ways to slow them immobilized and kill them in teams. It mention gods found them problematic as well while Anubus only called the willing.

Bang, another bar broke but it's hips got snagged on the broken half and halted it escape once again. I quickly hobbled to the other corner making as much noise as possible and happily it followed me once again. Appearently it was getting the hang of things because this time it found and broke the bars much faster than before my time was running out.

Finally a image came into my head from a traveling mage and his story of being chased by the undead. That was it I could do that at least and quickly I started to cast magic it was a very simple spell but I believed it would work. Soon it was ready and just in time the dead broke out and fell into the deep pit I had dug. It had been immobilized and I turned to walk away when I heard Nature asking if I was giving up.

Dam I had forgot I had to heal or give it peace ether would be next to impossible but now I remembered healing hurt the dead. I looked down on its decaying body and the madness in its head and heart and knew I had to give it peace not for this stupid test but because it was one of my people and did not deserve this torture to continue.

I reached deep into myself and pulled my magic forth from the earth into myself and balled it tight. I pulled and tightened it over again and again until it felt as if I would die if I pulled any more. Then I imagined what I wanted to happen and prey for my gods guidance and poured not just my magic but my very love and wishes into this poor being.

Slowly it stopped moving and started to change, it reached its hands upward and it's body started to change. It grew taller and taller its legs turning into a massive trunk its bark irredescant swirling with mother of pearl shell like colors. It's small arms and fingers changing and branching outwards towards the sun and finally as the last of my magic left me it bloomed into a miracle, the tree of all fruits last seen in the garden of heaven.
