I have to survive. Laying here beneath the car I make my plan. Come dawn I will slide out to the left. there are fewer on that side. I can roll after that and make it to the side of the road. After that I'll use the slope to draw them away from my stuf while I circle back around and try to grab my bag at least, and maybe the wagon if I can but I'm not hopeful. I remember that theres an alley down maple street up ahead thats a dead end with a chain link fence about 5 feet tall. The owner had a pitbull named champ. Not a vicious dog just really liked to chase cars so they put the fence up to keep him penned inside. If I'm lucky their backyards empty and I can jump the fence leading these assholes to a dead end. That might buy me some time. Or I could not take the risk and head back towards the station and cut across oakland drive and then come back around through 11th street. Either way there's a pretty big risk. I haven't been either way so at worst I may be cornered..... The worst option I can think of is bolting home. The main reason being I dont want these things following me back there. If there's a chance I can lose them I should at least try. As I lay here thinking my eyes are beginning to droop and I begin to yawn. I pinch myself. I have to stay awake.. If I fall asleep I may never wake up. I have to stay awake..
Opening my eyes I see the sun has risen and I quickly look around realizing that at some point last night I fell asleep..... Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. My hearts beating hard in my chest. I still see feet around the car but not as many as last night. By some miracle I didnt make any noise after I passed out. Looking around I count 18 pairs of feet near me. On my left there are 6 on my right there are 10 and at the bumper there are 2. there may be a few at the front of the car but I can't turn my head that way. So I'll go with my second plan. Here goes nothing. I grab the gun and slide out from under the car and as I do everything nearby hears me. I quickly roll as a little girl trys to drop onto me. I roll to the edge of the road and quickly scramble to my feet as I see them moving my way. There are 4 more at the front of the car. I run back towards the station and as I'm running I see several more ahead of me. They turn their heads toward me and begin to move my way. I pass through them without stopping and hit one in the head with my elbow as I pass. I nearly lose my balance from that and my arm feels numb. I book it further ahead and stop. I have to let them catch up a bit before I keep moving so that none stay around here for my return trip. I also have to pace myself. I'm hungry, thirsty, and tired. If I run out of breathe and get surounded I'm dead. I see them shuffling towards me. There is no noise except the scraping of feet as the move my way. Once the first one gets close enough I grab my pipe wrench and smash him across the face. Managing to knock him down I back up and then turn and run. I make it to oakland drive and see the road is clear by some miracle. I look back and see the group falling behind but still chasing. I look around for something I can use and I see several garden gnomes. Perfect. I grab the ugly one with a pickaxe in its hand and throw it as hard as I can to the side of a nearby house hoping they would follow that noise.
As the gnome smashes with a crash I see a few of them moving towards the noise but only a few. The rest continue my direction but that is fine. Grabbing 2 more gnomes I chuck one at the same place as before and then run for 11th street. This seems to be working out pretty well as now I can turn up 11th and lose them in the area. As I turn on 11th I see the houses lining the road with cars parked on the sides and no zombies. Running down the road a bit I chuck the last gnome at a nice car and as it smashes its window. *honk *honk *honk *honk. I set off the alarm. Yes! I run up towards the only side street and duck into it as I watch the hoard focus entirely on the car. I being to sneak away at at decent pace. I can get back to the main road by following the side street and going through a few backyards.
As I make it back onto the main road I see my wagon tipped over but the boxes are still tied down. I open my bag and quickly drink the entire bottle of water and grab some jerky to eat as I'm starving. That was rough but I did it. After checking around to make sure everything's safe enough I pick my wagon up and begin to head home. I work my way there quicker than normal as I begin to think about what to do next. The gas station has nothing else in it worth grabbing. I took everything I could. Maybe I should try to hit the farm store next. Its still summer and having a garden out back would certainly be worth it. I also need to think about my water situation. How am I going to get clean water when the infastructure inevitably breaks down? So far ive been able to store alot of water. Maybe I'll find and answer at the farm store. I approach my house and see the bike lock still around the gate just as I left it with nothing around. I unlock it and begin to take the boxes inside one at a time. After unpacking everything and checking what I have it looks like I have enough food to last at least a month. So for now I dont need to stress about that. But I need to do a few things while I still can. Now that food isnt an immediate issue I need to enter the land ladys office and use her printer. After I break into her office I see that she had her password on a sticky note on her moniter and using it I access the web and begin searching for information on gun cleaning, maintanence, irragation, farming, water collecting, and water purifying methods. I printed off as much as I could find and put them into binders. For now this is enough. I look out the door and see the sun is beginning to crest the hills. It wont be long before night comes again. I close up the office and carry the binders inside. After setting them down I make myself some chicken noodles soup and check the tv. Once again there's nothing to see. As I finish my meal I feel the exhaustion take over as I head up to my room. Not caring about the fact that I have dirt all over me I lock my door and flop onto my bed. It doesn't take long before I begin to fall asleep. I am home. I survived another day.
