Chapter 12 - Chapter 11

I wake up as the sun begins to rise. I grab some clothes and head to the bathroom for a shower. Halfway through my shower I hear a knocking on the door. Crap. "I'm showering I'll be out in a minute." She doesn't say anything but I can hear her walking away from the door. I finish scrubbing myself and rinse off before I dress and head downstairs. As I walk in I can see her eating a poptart while checking the tv. "Anything?" I ask as I grab a bowl of dry cereal. "No... Just. Blue." she says head hanging down. "Well don't dwell on it. It might look bad but at least we are alive right?" She nods as I eat my breakfast. "What do you plan to do today?" she asks while getting off the chair to throw her trash away. "Well I need to check the farm store and see how bad things are over there before doubling back to the dollar store to finish clearing it out. Might try to get the ground tilled in the backyard later tonight so I can get the garden going." she nods and says "Let me get ready and we can go." "No". She stops at my reply. "What? why?" I look at her and state plainly "Because I don't intend to die today because someone cant be quiet." She looks down and mumbles out an apology. "I'll be quiet this time. It was just hard yesterday cause you're the first person i've seen in a week. Besides its not that bad." "It is" I cut her off. "One wrong step and we die. All it takes is a single noise and they'll chase you. Sure they are slow but they dont get tired like us. I dont intend on having a hoard outside the gate because of you." "But" I glare at her as she falls silent. "If you want to help take the hoe out back and try to till the ground." I reach by the door grabbing my bag. "And for the love of all that is holy be quiet outside." I head out the door and throught the gate. Locking it behind me I see her standing at the window before I turn to head towards the store. I walk for about 10 minutes while thinking I may have been a little bit to hard on her. But honestly, if I'm not shes gonna get herself killed. You can't be careless while out and about I mean for fucks sake she was basically shouting at me yesterday. I walk past several cars before I hear shuffling and begin to look around. Up ahead I see 2 zombies shambling around a car. I grip my wrench before walking as quietly as I can towards them. As I do the one closest to me turns my way while the other is still focused on the car. I side step and kick the leg of the zombie forcing it to fall before bringing the wrench down on its skull. I'm getting better at this. And as if the universe wanted to give me a wake up call I feel something tug my bag so I slip it off before turning around and seeing a third zombie I didn't notice holding my bag before dropping it. It lunges toward me but I step around it and as I swing my wrench down I see the other shambling my way. I quickly smash its head twice before the other one can get to close as I step aound the car and wait for it to come close enough to hit. It moves toward me ignoring the car as it tries to reach over the hood for me. I swing my wrench down and crack its skull as I do it somehow managed to grab my arm. As it goes to bite me I cram my wrench into its mouth while trying to pull myself free. It chews on the wrench as I finally managed to pull my arm free. I quickly jerk my wrench out of its mouth breaking several of its yellow rotting teeth as I do. Raising my wrench I bust it in the head again and this time the wrench caves in through its skull spraying blood everywhere as it falls taking my wrench with it. I look around a breathe a sigh of relief seeing that nothing was around as I step around the car and pull my wrench out of its skull. I step around the corpses and grab my bag before continuing my trip. Around 30 minutes later I'm standing at the top of the hill looking at the hoard of zombies still lingering around the area. I notice there are far more in the surrounding woods now. So probably not going to be able to get anywhere near that store for awhile. Looking around I can see the beginnings of a decent trap if I can pull it off. but I dont know for sure. I'll have to head to the city lot and try to see if they have the leveler parked there. If they do I may be able to use it to squish some zombies as I drive it to the store. Maybe use a few cars as bait to draw the all into one are? But it may not work because the leveler may not be tall enough to prevent them from trying to climb up. I'll shelve that plan for now but definitely want to check it out. I turn around and begin my trek towards the dollar store. As I walk past the corpses of my previous fight I notice a cat chewing on the remains. It notices me and runs away. That's probably not a good thing but theres no way I'm catching that fucker. I continue walking and it isnt long before I see my house and hear the sound of metal dinging. What the fuck? Unlocking the gate I look around and don't see anything. Walking around the back of the house I see Penelope whacking the hoe into the ground but she seems to be hitting a rock. "What's going on?" I ask. "Aah. I'm trying to till the ground like you said but I can't get this rock moved..." I look and can tell its a pretty big rock. "Why don't you try to till around it and move out maybe that will make it easier. Or you could just grab a shovel and dig it up." "I didnt think of that...." she looks sad. "Well its fine. I have an idea for the farm store but I wanted to ask if you wanted to come clear the dollar store?" "What?!? I thought you said you didnt want me to help?" I give her a look. "I figured its best if you learn to do this much at least. Just remember to stay quiet and pick your fights." "Ok" She nods and seems excited. I grab a bat from the garage and hand it to her. "Youre gonna need that." she nods and takes it as we head towards the gate. Hopefully this trip is easy.
