Chapter 15 - Chapter 14

An::: So a bit behind because I finally got to watch endgame. Holy crap it was good. But I digress, heres the chapter I hope you guys have a wonderful week.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I awake to the sun peaking through the flaps of my tent. Crawling out I can see that Penelope is still asleep so I walk over to the roof edge and look around. I see 6 zombies still at the door, not hitting it or anything but just standing there, lost. They seem to be just guarding the door without any other purpose. Looking around I count 34 zombies scattered about. Some are shuffling around aimlessly while others are standing still. I dont think ibe ever seen them just stand there, doing nothing. They seem almost like sentinels. Watching. Waiting. Is that why we only see them when there's noise? Maybe there are more scattered about that we dont see because we were quiet? And if so, how do I feel about that? Honestly it's creepy. They just stand motionless, as if dolls on display, each one telling a story of how they died. They lady standing on the left side of the building by a Toyota, she only has a single arm. Covered in bites and clothing in tatters. The man on the right, I can see his spine through the hollow cavity where his stomach once was. The smell of sour meat and rot permeates the still air. The only sound that can be heard is the light shuffle of feet. If not for the circumstances and the fact we are surrounded I might appreciate the quiet. I have to find a way to get Penelope and myself out of the store and home safely. For now they are still, but what if they dont leave? What if I'm right and they can just stand there, waiting for prey to simply walk past them? Sure we have food and supplies for now but our resources are finite. They wont last forever. I also cant forget our livestock back home. The animals will need food and possibly water by tomorrow or they may die. They're already weakened from the week long fast they had. They wont survive another. I walk over to Penelopes tent and give her a shake to wale her up, two brains are better than one and who knows, she may notice something I missed. She stirs with a groggy look and before she can speak I cover her mouth with my hand and make the shh sign. I walk her over to the edge and gesture to the crowd and whisper, "What do you think of this?". She looks around confused until she notices what I mean. "They arent moving? It's like they're waiting for something. Are they waiting for us?" She looks at me with fear all over her face. "No I don't think so." I whisper "I think they stand by and wait for noise to draw them. I think that maybe they just dont move unless they have a reason to but I'm not sure. Can you think of anything we can do to use this to our advantage?" She looks around and then a grin begins to form. "The walkie talkies." She whispers excitedly. It hits me like a ton of bricks. Why didnt I think of that? If we toss a walkie talkie away from where we want to go we can lead them there using the noise and possibly get away with little to no effort. We head back down the ladder inside the store and grab a few short range walkie talkies and some batteries. After assembling the tools we need, we begin the tedious task of trying to draw the zombiea to the back of the store. "This sucks" Penelope whispers to me as the zombies ignore the walkie talkie. "I don't think its loud enough." I say as I look around and see only a few stumbling towards the radio. Maybe. Wait. What if I take 2 together and make a feedback loop and then throw it? The screech would suck but if it works it could drive all of them to the back and stay active for awhile. I grab 2 more radios and a roll of ducktape. Beginning the loop I throw the screeching distraction over the back of the store and... They all start shuffling to it. Me and penelope nearly cheer as we rush back down the roof access and to the front door. I can still see a few in the front making their way around back. I whisper to Penelope, "As soon as they are past the building we are going to walk out and relock the door. Then we mobe as quietly as we can to qhere we left the carts and see if we can get them. If not we make a push for home." She nods as the last one passes the side of the building. We walk out locking the door behind us as we move forward as quickly as we can while being quiet. I can hear the feedback fading in the distance as we make it to where we ditched the carts yesterday. There is a lone zombie pinned under the carts. Looks like when we bolted and they chased the carts got knocked over pinning this dumb bastard to the ground. I pull out my trusty wrench and with 2 swings his head caves in. We quickly tilt the carts up and gather everything that spilled out before we push for home. A 45 minute haul later we can finally see home. I unlock th bike lock and guide the carts inside before I collapse on the couch in exhaustion. Being trapped for a whole day takes alot out of you. I glance around the common area and see Penelope feeding the animals and putting away the groceries. Pushing myself up off the couch I go and begin helping her. This isnt so bad

We survived.
