It was an usual day in the city, with heavy traffic and crowd. Everyone was occupied in their own daily routine. Offices were open and people rushed to reach on time. The twenty-three year old girl was small to be noticed and hence she made her way into the office easily. The tables and chairs were obviously changed and some people were new to her eyes. But the memories seemed to flash in front of her like a cinema. She felt her hands shivering, legs trembling but she held herself up. Her old chair was still unoccupied and she wondered why. Three years passed and somethings never got replaced both in her life and soul. She tried to look into the CEO's cabin but the door was changed from galss to wood. She remembered the old days when her boss used to stare at her through the cabin door. She kept her pace steady and went near the door. His name was still engraved in wood like before. She ran her hand over it and spelled out his name with great difficulty- Dhruv Sharma. She knocked on the door and heard the same voice welcoming her inside. She hesitated for a moment but got herself together as it was not the old days to be worried. She went inside and saw his chair was empty, she turned and saw him at the window staring ourside. She tried to speak up
"Sir, I am Diya and I have got an appointment letter from here."
"Welcome to the Sharma group Diya. Keep the letter on the table and press that alarm." :- he said without moving an inch.
"Sure, sir.":- she said by pressing the alarm.
A knock was heard and Dhruv commanded the clerk to enter.
"Raghav, show Diya her cabin and make her comfortable. Ask Kabir to tell her about the rules and procedures. Now you two may please leave.":- he said sternly.
They both left the cabin without another word. She wished to see his face for once but he didn't even bother to. She could feel how difficult it would be for her to work where she had the best and worst days of her life. She believed she should start where she lost herself. She wanted to know how Dhruv would be doing now and how he did during the past three years. She didn't want to be the old silly girl anymore and hence kept her silence and decided to focus more on everything around without taking a wrong step. Raghav took her to the cabin and she noticed the "Ms. Diya" written on the door with her designation "Personal Assistant". She walked in and looked through the window. The same view of sea, the same wind. She moved away and heard a knock on the door.
"Please, come in."
"Hey! I am Kabir. I am your trainer and you can see me as a friend. I am here to help you with your works and explain to you about the things about which you are actually confused with. So may I?"
Seeing Kabir, Diya was amazed. Kabir was just like the way Diya used to be three years back. Non-stop talker, a happy go lucky guy with so much of innocence. The past flashed in front of her and she lost the focus for few seconds.
"Hey, Kabir. It's good to meet you. Please have the seat." Diya welcomed him inside.
"How's the new place, Diya? I hope you are liking it. I will explain to you all the work. You wouldn't have to worry about anything else when I am here."
Diya knew the place better than anyone else would ever know. Not only the office but also the CEO was close to her heart. Kabir was new to the office and he couldn't identify Diya, even Dhruv won't. She changed drastically both physically and mentally.
Mumbai, one of the busiest city in the country knows her story better than anyone would ever know. Thereason why she left her home town, why she ran away from her loved ones. She heard the door knock again and got back to conciousness.
"Come in." :- she tried to hide the pain and anger behind her face.
"Diya, we have a meeting. Collect the files from Kabir and join me." :- Dhruv shut the door.
She froze for a second, Dhruv cannot be this rude. He can't be like this. She collected the files and joined Dhruv in his cabin. She couldn't take her eyes from his face but had to be the best on the first day. They completed the meeting soon and everybody left to their own cabins. Diya was switching off the computers and projector while Dhruv was checking the files. She accidently plucked in the wrong wire and current went off. It was so dark that she couldnt see anything around.
"DIYAAA." :- Dhruv screamed.
"I am sorry, sir. I will fix this soon. Just a minute."
She suddenly got scared as Dhruv hugged her tight. He got panic attack and was shivering. She remembered the time when he first hugged her. It was for the very same reason. She felt like everything was starting once again. She tried to comfort him but he was not in that mind state. He was about to pass out when the current came.
"Sir, please get up. The power has come. Please open your eyes."
"Diya, take me out of here." :-he cried.
She took him out of the room and he pulled her downstairs to the parking lot. He took his car and drove off leaving her alone in the parking lot. She lost the confidence, she managed to show. The first day had a lot for her in the store for which she hadn't prepared. She left to her flat and took a shower. The wounds she had to bear was not so mild. It's scar was still visible but she knew how to hide them well.
"If you want to know the truth, learn to hide them." :- she remembered herself. That night she couldn't sleep well, her past memories haunted her and she decided to take a coffee to kill her headache.
