As he opened the door, what welcomed him is the sight of his parents with a frantic look on their faces and without a word they started running as they drag Riku along.
"W-what's wrong? Where are we going?" while he knew that there was something wrong, he lacked information and one of the things that humans usually fear is the unknown. His parent as if they didn't hear him brought him to their own room and they started packing their credit cards, money, passports and Id they didn't even bother packing any clothing which confused Riku so he asked once again slightly in a demanding tone.
"Mom, dad you need to explain what's going on." A look at his face made the parents remember that he was sleeping there was even a trace of saliva on his cheeks which they just ignored. They looked at each other and nodded in understanding. His mom continued packing as his father spoke in a trembling voice.
"They're eating everyone" his father started to pant as his face showed traces of fear.
Seeing this Riku realized how scary the situation must've been since his father rarely showed any signs of fear and at the same time he was once a soldier, however, he was discharged after a shrapnel from a bomb hit him in the eye which needed to be replaced with a prosthetic one, even then he never showed fear.
After few quick breaths, his father recalled.
The news is showing a scene where the police formed a barricade on a street and shooting at what looks like humans while the citizens were running in desperation. However, those monsters continued to stand up even when there's a hole where their heart are supposed to be. We continued to watch just then we saw a bus filled with those monsters hit a truck incoming this caused a chain reaction, various cars hit the two while some stopped before hitting only to be slammed on the back by the cars behind them. Perhaps an oil leak happened because after a few seconds one of the vehicles exploded.
" Only to hear it outside and there we saw outside through the open balcony, the fire in the news." After the explanation Riku's father helped packing.
Riku had to breathe after holding his breath due to the horrific scenario in his mind based on the explanation of his father.
A few moments later they are already going down the stairs. His father deemed it dangerous to use the elevator so despite the fact that it was tiring as they pushed through whatever limit held them back. The plan was to head to the parking area underground afterwards they can discuss their destination when they are some distance away from the city.
The closer they are to reaching the ground floor the louder the screams and footsteps became. They didn't bother sticking with the majority though, so they continued running downstairs. Only when they reached the underground did they feel a little bit safe, luckily they didn't have to bother searching for their car since it was already in front of them. Just as his father was about to unlock the car, from out of nowhere a monster pounced on his father and bit him on the neck. Riku perhaps due to adrenaline was about to help his father when he heard a bang and a scream behind her. Riku turned around only to see his mother being eaten and pulled apart by the monsters.
He stood still. No, it is more accurate to say that he couldn't move. The scene in front of him reminded him of kids fighting for a piece of candy except the piece of candy was his mother. The monsters tore her apart her insides spilled out it was at this moment that his father shouted.
"NO! Riku run! Save yourself NOW!"
Whether he was driven by fear or he just didn't dare disobey his father, he ran to the car, unlocked the door and before he drove away he saw his father crawling towards his mother. He ignored the monsters and hugged his wife and as he closed his eyes with a smile he whispered.
"Honey, our son is safe now so I'll join you soon"
