Adney didn't seem to mind answering, "This is the coolest division in the kingdom, of course I have to be in it."
He placed the sword by his side. "If you don't mind, I also want to ask you the same thing."
Lilian followed Adney's movements. She smiled sweetly. "My father is the highest commander in this division, my brother is the captain here, shouldn't I be here too?"
"Ah you're right. Then should we start?" Adney signaled with his eyes. Logan as the referee already waving a sign that the test has begun.
"Sir Adney, I know I shouldn't say it but I don't think you are fit to be in this division."
In the original script, the name Adney Grissham was not in one of the participants who passed. He was in the third division like the original Lilian.
Adney watched her. "...and what makes you think that I don't fit in here?"
Lilian thought for a moment. "You are clever. Especially heir to the Count, but it will waste your talent by directly put yourself on the dangerous spearhead. The brilliant people like you should aid them and the kingdom from behind."
Adney didn't seem convinced. "I thank you for your high praise for me," he commented.
As she said, if he who had a brilliant brain was better at behind, then why would a girl like Lilian put herself in danger first?
Adney had heard of the Lesnarg family's daughter like most other nobles' daughters. He never knew who Lilian really was, but seeing the figure firsthand, she had an aura that he could not explain, enveloping Lilian. She obviously far apart from most girls and that made Adney want to talk to her further.
"Where do you think should I be?" the question left Adney's lips.
"You should be in the third division." Lilian said without blinking. She walked toward Adney. Adney was a little flustered seeing Lilian's attitude, even though Lilian approached getting closer, he remained in his position.
"I guess you have to be far from my weapon reach, don't you think?" Adney frowned when Lilian didn't stop.
"Everyone here can already predict that fighting a sword with me will definitely win. Honestly, that really hurts my feelings." Lilian stopped quite close to him.
They were 'once' in the same division and Adney was famous for his gentleness towards women. Lilian must make full use of it.
"Indeed it is a little offensive. I bet you feel irritated." Adney looked down at Lilian who was shorter than him. They were close enough to smell each other's scent.
"Sir Adney, would you be happy if you won against me?" Lilian didn't take her eyes off Adney's eye.
"I'm sure that will be a terrible happiness." Adney answered softly. Seeing Lilian's determined gaze at close range, Adney didn't even intend to raise his sword.
If it involves a sword, this object should instead be used to protect the girl in front of him, not to attack.
Lilian, still with a charming smile, spread her intentions on the dazed Adney.
"Sir Adney ... what if you voluntarily withdraw from this test? I will grant you one request instead."
Adney's laughter sounded in his throat. "What can I say to a woman who is determined?" He said after he managed to wake up from his fascination in Lilian, awkwardly.
"All right. That's a good deal. But my Lady... how well I should withdraw from this test? You can't possibly expect me to fall on my butt with embarrassment, right?"
Lilian smiled widely. "Of course. I too will feel ashamed looking you like that."
Seeing Lilian's sparkling eyes, Adney knew that she already had the answer to his question. "So what do you suggest, Milady?"
"How about a kiss?" Lilian stuck her wooden sword between them. "What do you think of, Sir Adney?"
Lilian asked while holding a smile, clearly knew where the thoughts of the boy in front of her were. Adney tried to hide his expression but his red ears betrayed him.
"Uhm well, I think that makes sense."
Her suggestive tone of voice made Adney think that he shouldn't. Adney took a step backward. He heard his surroundings jerk as he fell on his left knee. Adney reached out to Lilian.
Lilian reached out her hand immediately. Adney's lips touched her back hand in one motion. His current position was like a knight who swore loyalty to his master for life. Lilian held his hand in hers and pulled Adney to his feet, as the lips left her fingers.
"I will not forget this, Sir Adney. Thank you."
Adney smiled. The smile that was able to captivate the noble girls was directed at her.
"I'll make sure to collect your promise someday, Miss Lilian."
Adney let go of their hands and said to Logan 'I lost.' before leaving the arena. Lilian looked at Logan who was still astonished on the side line of the arena.
"Don't you have something to say?" Lilian said to Logan.
Logan cleared his throat and shouted, "Miss Lilian Lesnerg, pass!"
There were boisterous voices of some people criticizing Adney and that made Lilian feel a little uncomfortable.
In the next few days people would surely gossip about how the Count Grissham's heir withdraws from the competition because of Lady from Lesnerg.
Cheap gossip had always be annoying, but for now, Lilian closed her ears tightly. She turned a deaf ear to people who didn't know what her position was. And Lilian promised in her heart, if she passed the test till the end, she would return Adney kindness as soon as possible.
