Chapter 4 - Beginners Poison Core

After I returned to the Library room a notification popped appeared before me.

<[stealth] has leveled up to level 2.>

Great! it seems like my hard work has paid off. I thought to myself as I curled up in my corner. I yawned as I slowly closed my eyes. Doing all this work had left me exhausted.

=======================================

[Day 2]

When I woke up, I found another bowl of gruel in front of me, and I could hear the not so soft sound of pointy hat snoring. My stomach growled when I saw the gruel, but at the same time a nauseous feeling came over my body.

I grit my teeth and gagged down the food. I would need the energy if I was to make it out of this mess.

I then turned attention to the two books in front of me. The first was the book old pointy hat had gifted me [The art of Assassination], the second was the spell book I would need to unlock the subclass Apprentice Wizard [Venomous Grimoire].

As I had a time limit on getting this subclass, I decided that it was necessary to study [Venomous Grimoire] first. The book was not as simple as the previous stealth book. It started off by speaking about the properties of Poison magic, as well as a warning. As my eyes passed over the words a notification from the system appeared before me.

I paused as I thought over the words, the cost of learning from this book was immense, but with my limited strength and current situation I could see no choice but to accept. Poison and stealth were my only options to escape from this place, and if I failed the results would be worse than death.

With my mind made up I quickly chose to accept. I could feel warmth growing from my diminutive magic core. The warmth began to grow hotter, burning me from the inside, as I could feel the gross taste of bike and gruel welling up inside of me. Soon the rancid scent of vomit filled the air as the contents of my stomach emptied over the ground. My vision began to blur as the pain in my chest radiated throughout my body.

I woke up several hours later, greeted by another message from the system.

[Beginners poison core] level 1

Raises your affinity to poison type magic to the maximum and increases the damage of poison type spells by 10%. Grants the user [Basic poison resistance]. Your ability to cast other types of magic has been revoked. Increases maximum mana and mana regeneration by 1%.

[Basic poison resistance]

Basic poison has a harder time to affect you, losing 90% of their effectiveness against you.

As the notifications appeared, I noticed that I was still covered in my own vomit, but that a bucket with some kind of liquid had appeared along with a rag. My books had nearly stacked to side, and old Pointy hat was still snoring on his chair.

I nodded to his sleeping form and quickly cleaned myself as well as the area around me up. Fearing that continuing to read the book would start another episode I decide that I should spend a little time meditating, as this would be the only way to advance my magic core.

Time passed as it always does and a few hours later I opened my eyes. I could feel that the amount of magic my core could hold had increased, but not enough to raise its level yet. Perhaps it would raise tomorrow.

I eyed my books with suspicion, but chose to study the book on assassination. The spell book made my mind feel tired, and I knew instinctively that I could not handle any more from that book today.

The book on assassination was an interesting read. It was not like either the spell book or the skill book. It covered a vast variety of information, which included information on both poison, stealth, and dexterity. I found that [The art of Assassination] was what is called a class book, and that reading it was a prerequire to picking up the class. There were several other requirements, which included killing an opponent in one shot, and attacking an opponent from stealth. The third requirement was to have the Apprentice Wizard subclass.

As I finished reading the book the system once again gave me a notification.

[Gain the assassin class]

Requirements:

1) Read the book called [The art of Assassination]

2) Gain the Apprentice Wizard Subclass

3) Kill an opponent in one hit

4) Attack an opponent from stealth

Time limit N/A

Rewards: the assassin class

failure: Permanently losing access to this class.

I nodded to myself as I read the notification. I had already completed one of the requirements, and the second requirement was something I would need to do anyways. Lastly this quest did not have a time limit, which meant from here on I would need to focus on studying the [Venomous Grimoire]
