Chapter 23 - Unleashing Hell

(Ace)

What a predicament, Ace thought gruffly as he shifted his hulking form through the trees, dodging the flying arrows as best he could. The smell of magic hung heavily in the air, the men were being charmed by a soothsayer, they reeked of a special enchantment that Ace knew all too well. Renee was behind the attack, she was the longest living soothsayer in the world, her spells ancient as time itself. The woman did not loan out her services for free, whoever was paying her had a pretty penny, he would need to find the old hag fast. First thing was first, he needed to get back into his human form, which was proving to be difficult with the need to avoid his death at every turn. Irritation burned through him, if Alexis had not run off into the forest, than they would not be in this mess. Honestly, the anger was more towards himself then anyone, his boarder should have been impenetrable. The fact that a soothsayer could just waltz in without raising any alarms was beyond insulting to his security. Not to mention the multiple men that would have had to been right behind her, how had his men missed such a thing?

Out the corner of his eye, he seen Alex's wolf slinking across the snow, what the fuck was she doing? Ace shook his head momentarily distracted, which slowed his reflexes down, and in return one of the arrows pierced through his hind leg. The howl of outrage echoed through the forest, ringing in the air making the unkindness of ravens flock the sky. How in the fuck had he been so stupid, that was a rookie move by half, and he was anything but a green horn in the throws of battle. Being a seasoned warrior there was no way that should have happened, yet there he was with an arrow protruding from his leg. Fuming silently, Ace concentrated opening his telepathic communication that he rarely ever used, normally he never needed to. He absolutely hated people inside his mind, and he felt it a betrayal of privacy to go meddling in other's minds as well, but unforeseen circumstances called for it. Damen, where the fuck are you? Ace sent out across the connection he had formed long ago with his little inner circle. Renee got through the security and has brought friends, in need of a little back up, Alex is with me.

There was no need to say more, through their bond Damen would be able to sniff him out, he just needed to make sure that in the meantime Alex did not get herself killed doing whatever she was doing. Directly defying his orders, she was slinking off to no doubt do her version of help, which would do more harm than good against a soothsayer's magic. Even as a seasoned warrior, crossing magic without magic of your own was a bad mix, let alone being a fragile Beta. Annoyance coursed through his body, the snow was falling heavier, the wind causing it to stir frantically all around. No doubt being controlled by Renee to use it as a distraction, Ace felt his blood boiling, his mate was in danger and here he was being cornered like a rat. Flashes of his father's face scrunched in disappointment scattered in his mind. Grounding his teeth together Ace gave a long-distinguished howl into the chilled air. It had been a long time since thoughts of his Father had surfaced. Ace picked up his speed, giving it his all, he was one of the fastest Alpha's in existence and the strongest. These motherfuckers were going to wish they had never step foot into his land by the time he got done with them.

It was almost as if he was disappearing and reappearing to the naked eye as fast as he was moving. The arrows were a few seconds behind him now and there was a distinct scream, before something fell from the trees, when it hit the bottom Ace took in the deep red that permeated the white snow beneath. One of the men had been taken down, was Daniel and Rachel here? Ace thought searching the trees, though to his surprise he seen no one, whoever it was were blending in with their surroundings extremely well. It was enough to take the other marksmen by surprise themselves, the launch on his person seized for a split second and Ace took every advantage of the opportunity. Jumping in the air, he twisted his body in a full spin, his bones cracked and transformed. Landing with an oath on a limb, Ace was in his human form at last, he reached down pulling the arrow from his leg.

Summoning all his strength, Ace dug deep within himself, and with all his power he floated in the middle of the enclosed trees. Hovering above the ground and in the center of the chaos, Ace gave an animalistic growl, his chest expanded and around him the darkness flowed. It emitted from his body like a second skin, then cocooned him in a blanket of black silk, the men started their attack back up. The arrows were propelled through the air, contacting the blackness around Ace's body, millions of arrows stuck to the protective layer around him, it was almost as if it was made of tar. The mass bubbled and starting oozing, it looked like it might pop. Ace closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, he unleashed his hell.
