Chapter 40 - Man In Black

I stared at him emotionless and began talking to him my voice filled with bitterness "You know Rick. the one thing I envied about you was the way you could smile and laugh so happily, I haven't done that in years I can't remember the feeling. It must be pleasant, right? How does it feel to still be filled with emotions?"

Rick lightly shook his head. His body was pale as a sheet of paper, his weaving blue veins visible under his skin. I narrowed my eyes in anger, the fury in me slowly simmering as I remembered everything they had done. I used blood manipulation, heating his blood as he squirmed beneath me, his skin quickly turning bright red. I tightened my grip on him as I remembered when those two men raped me indiscriminately. His red skin sprouted large boils began forming as I heated his blood at an even faster pace, driven by my rage at the past.

"You don't know just how much I hate you all, I wish I could kill you a thousand times over," Rick screamed in agony twisting his body and scratching at his skin littered with large boils, his nails dug into his skin and blood immediately spurted out.

"PLEASE STOPPP AHHHHHH" I ignored his pleas for mercy only increasing the temperature of his blood, his boils burst spurting fresh blood mixed with milky white pus. "I'M GONNA DIEEE!!!"

"I'm glad you released that, so accept your fate please," I dropped those words, my expression not once changing. A few moments later he stopped moving, lifeless. I silently rose to my feet and walked out the room into the room next door, soaked in blood with organs strewn across the floor. I walked past them all walking out the door and back into the alley not once did my expression change.

I moved onto my next plan of action; escaping. I desperately wanted to return to the clan, just to have a final reminiscence, to be flooded with the memories of my mother. It was just a fleeting dream; I didn't have time. Life was so unfair.

I dashed through the alleys slowly making my way to the city borders. I stopped when I saw some guards patrolling the large grey wall that towered high. I threw off my cloak and rushed to the guards and fell to my knees. I forced tears out my eyes; I clasped my hands together and sobbed loudly.

"Guards please, please help me!!" a hysterical cry rang from my mouth stopping only at the need for a breath of air. The guards stopped in their tracks, throwing a glance in my direction, scrunching their face in disgust as they continued. "Please don't leave, help me!! They're dead.... all dead... AHHHH" I reached out for one man's legs, tears streaming down my face and snot out my nose. I choked on my saliva as I sobbed loudly. My eyes were bloodshot from crying and my rosy cheeks were a bright unnatural red.

One man sharpened his gaze when he heard my second sentence. 'It worked,' I thought and secretly sneered inside. "Who's dead?" The other man asked in a deep, gruff voice. I hiccuped as I choked out in a croaked voice, "I...I.."

"Lady say it!" The other man lost his patience and snapped at me, I flinched "Those men in the alley over there," I pointed toward Dave's gang.

"Huh?" The two men turned, whispering a few things to each other before turning back to me. "Show us the way," I flinched again at their words shaking my head furiously "No, that I can't it's... it's too gruesome that killer might still be there,"

"Killer?"

"Yes, I walked in and all I saw was a body as if it was burst from the inside!" I widened my eyes, shivers running up my spine at the thought of it.

"WHAT!!? BILL!!" the man who snapped at me earlier screamed

"I KNOW!" The other man yelled back to him as they rushed off in a flurry, completely neglecting me on the floor. Once they were out of site my expression returned to normal. I wiped the tears from the corners of my eyes and dusted off the back of my dress.

"Took them long enough," I uttered I grabbed my cloak pulling it back on. "Come slice for your master," I held my hand out as the scythe materialized in my hand. I increased my grip on it as I looked up at the tall wall before me that disappeared within the clouds. I took a deep breath, calming myself, and dashed towards the wall. I leapt into the air, carrying me a few meters. Just as I was about to fall again I stuck my scythe in the wall using it as leverage to push myself up again.

The wind whistled in my ears, blowing my silky hair in the air. I reached the top where dozens of guards stood patrolling the top of the wall. I landed lightly and finally hearing the commotion all their heads whipped to me staring in a daze.

"A SCYTHE, IT'S A LARGE SCYTHE. IT'S THAT MURDERER!!" One guard shouted and as if injected with adrenaline the guards all jumped up drawing their swords and bows all directed to me. They surrounded me. One slash with the scythe dozens of heads dropped, blood splashed onto my face and hair dyeing them bright red. Seeing a space in their defences I rushed there slashing my scythe constantly, heads flying everywhere and blood flying. It was horrific, screams of panic rose as I headed to one place; safety. A stray arrow embedded itself into my shoulder blade, I hissed in pain but didn't stop, I didn't have time. Once I reached the edge of the wall with no more delay, I plunged myself down the wall. I twisted in the air, avoiding the arrows that rained down upon me, deflecting all with my scythe. I twisted once more in the air, pointing the end of my scythe to the dirt, bracing myself for the backlash this would cause me. With a hard thrust, the end of the scythe lodged itself in the soft dirt.

I held on firmly to the scythe as I resisted gravity, my hands burned in pain from the friction and I could practically feel the skin ripping from my hands as I held onto the scythe desperately. I groaned another arrow pierced my arm. With no time to regain my composure, I plucked my scythe up and made a bee-line for the forest, planning to use the trees as my cover.

I panted as I ran away my blood pumping furiously. The adrenaline in my body kept the pain from my body at bay. I couldn't stop yet, not yet, I had to get further. After running for what felt like hours. I pressed myself against a tree, trying to catch my breath. The adrenaline wore off and now the pain was hitting me full force. I reached for my shoulder and touched something wet looking at my red fingers I knew it was blood. I reached back, tearing it from my flesh, I grunted in agony but I reached back again and dislodged the other arrow from my arm, biting my lip to hold back the cry of pain from escaping my lips.

Sweat pooled on my forehead as I slid down the tree trunk, falling to the ground in pain. I knew I had to treat my wounds, or it would become infected, and I knew I had to stay on the move in case the guards were still giving chase, but I felt too weak. Suddenly all the hairs on my body stood on the edge, I snapped my head up squinting my eyes as I looked into the darkness.

Crunching from the distance entered my ears. I had to run. It was most likely a beast. Thinking so, I tried desperately to rise to my feet, but they refused to listen, they were too numb to even stand. Was this how I would die?

"Congrats girl, you made it out." A deep, magnetic voice laughed, his voice becoming clearer and clearer as he approached from the shadows, and my breath hitched in my throat once I saw him.
