It had been a week since becoming alpha everyone that was left was busy doing their part. Half worked on the caves half on the forest. At night we all gathered around the main fire enjoying what time we had left.
In this one week I had gotten closer to the pack learning everything I could about them. However at night when I was alone I was plagued by nightmares. On one particular night I woke covered in sweat panting from them. Slowly I left my den and made my way towards the one person I trusted most in this world.
As I snuck into his den Zeld's eyes snapped open his eyes stared at me the green glowing against the light of the moon. without a word he grabbed my hand pulling me down to lay with him under the furs. His arms wrapped around me still saying nothing he stroked my hair til I fell back asleep.
In the morning I woke up in Zeld's den, stretching out my hand the ground next to me was empty. My eyes snapped open as I realised where I was and that I had slept in. Getting up I snuck back to my own den to get out of my night clothes.
Why didn't Zeld wake me how bad would it look if the alpha slept while everyone else was working hard. Quickly I changed clothes and started heading towards the forests.
As I was heading towards the others I smelt them before I heard them. I dodged the dagger shifting in midair I used the side of a tree to tackle my assassin.
I growled down at the wolf beneath my paws as he stabbed me in the foreleg. I yelped jumping back howling to warn the others. The male stood up my eyes started to go fuzzy causing me to see two of him.
His chuckle barely registered as he made to step closer. I tried to stay standing but something was sapping my strength. My attacker froze. he swore to himself my growls becoming staggered.
"No matter you'll be dead soon anyway."
A second after he disappeared the pack members that had been in the woods found me including Zeld.
"Go after him!"
My voice through the mind link was barely a sound before I shifted back to human form not being able to hold my wolf.
Zeld shifted and ran after him with three others while a female named felk stayed with me. She was as close as the pack had to a healer before I arrived. She had long blonde hair and looked far younger then what she was. She leaned in sniffing my arm where I had been cut and pulled back instantly.
"Wolfsbane!"
She growled.
"Those bastards!"
I chuckled as I tried to sit up.
"Don't move the wolfsbane has gone into your blood stream moving will only kill you faster."
I shook my head.
"You need to get me to the cave."
She stared at me confused.
"You mean to Talieus."
I shook my head again.
"No the cave of the trails."
She stared at me hesitating.
"How will that help?"
Just as she said that Zeld came back blood dripping from his canines.
"How is she?"
Felk turned to him.
"Not good he coated the blade with wolfsbane it's already hit her blood stream."
She turned back to me.
"There's nothing I can do."
Quickly I looked to Zeld urgency in my voice.
"Get me to the cave of the trails now!"
Without hesitation he rushed to my side.
"Put her on my back now!"
"But-"
"Do it!"
Felk did as Zeld asked the others helped her put me on Zelds back. Grasping his fur he ran as fast as he could towards the cave of trails.
I could feel myself slipping.
"Rav hold on! Don't you dare die!"
I held on tighter fighting to stay awake.
"Wha- what happened to the wolf?"
"He's dead."
I smiled as I lay my head down not being able to hold it up.
"Rav!"
My eyes snapped open again.
"Hurry Zeld."
I felt the air around us pick up he boosted his speed with his wind. As the caves came into view I used the last of my strength to open up the cave. Zeld pushed forward leaping through the entrance me still on his back.
The second we passed through the entrance we were transported to a place not of this world. I could hear Zeld yelling through the mind link but I couldn't tell what he was saying. Not until gentle hands touched my skin as the pain of the wolfsbane started slowly disappearing.
"Luna?"
"Yes Raven I am here you are safe."
I smiled as her healing magic continued to rid my body of the wolfsbane. I don't know when I had been removed from Zeld's back but as I felt his human hands holding mine my eyes fluttered open.
Luna was the most beautiful being I had ever seen I had the same reaction that I had last time in these caves. Her eyes like emeralds make her flawless features all the more amazing. Her long black hair that she always left out as it cascaded down her back.
Her hand caressed my cheek as she spoke to Zeld.
"Thank you zeldius for bringing her here, you have saved her life."
He remained silent, at first I thought it was because he was in awe of her presence. However as I looked closer I realised his fists were clenched. He spoke through gritted teeth.
"If I had of known i was bringing her to you I would have found a way to save her myself."
"Zeld!"
He ignored me as Luna held her hand out silencing me.
"Let him speak."
He stared daggers at her.
"Who are you to pass judgement on us just because you created all wolves doesn't give you the right to force Rav to do whatever is so bad that she can't tell me!"
Luna sighed.
"You have to understand Zeldius I created the wolves to bridge the gap between nature and humans. I did not anticipate that having such power would cause your human counterparts to become corrupt."
He growled at her.
"Not all of us have become corrupt you can not punish us all because of the actions of a few!"
"Zeld the time of the wolves has passed, they must return to the earth that bore them."
"What does that even mean!"
His eyes turned to me as realisation dawned on him.
"This is what you were hiding from me? You were planning to take our wolves from us?"
Tears came to my eyes as I avoided his not wanting to see the pain I knew he felt.
"How could you Rav! Why would you even consider this!"
Luna looked down at me sorrow in her features.
"She has seen what will happen if she does not."
Zeld lunged for Luna but with one hand raised he was thrown back.
"Zeld!"
I tried to rush to him but my body was still to weak.
He glared at Luna anger boiling within him.
"Finally I understand what you were so afraid of..."
I waited for the words I had been dreading, the words that would break my heart into a million pieces.
Slowly he approached me taking my hand in his, he wiped the tears from my eyes.
"I don't hate you Rav I hate that you accepted this without fighting it."
My eyes stared into his.
"There is no fighting this Zeld Luna showed me what will happen to the world to nature if the wolves continue to abuse their power."
He snapped his eyes towards Luna.
"How do you know that what she showed you will happen?"
Luna stayed silent as she let Zeld continue.
"You are the moon goddess but you are not all powerful. Yes you created us but you can not take away our wolves without giving us a chance to set things right."
Luna seemed to consider his words. Until she smiled placing a hand on top of our intertwined fingers.
"You are right I will give both of you till months end. If you can not weed out those that have been corrupted by their power by the time the northern lights are at their brightest I will have no choice but to return your wolves to nature."
Zeld kissed my forehead as I realised just how much I loved this male that could change the mind of a goddess with nothing but a promise.
"Thank you moon goddess."
She smiled as she gazed at both of us our hands still connected.
"I hope you succeed young alphas for if you do, together you will will make for the greatest alphas that ever lived."
Zeld inclined his head as he helped me up we headed towards the exit.
"Oh and Zeld good luck."
He remained silent as we left the moon goddess behind.
Once outside Zeld turned to me.
"Can you shift?"
I nodded.
"I think so."
He smiled cupping my face in his hands.
"I love you Rav."
I matched his smile with one of my own.
"I love you Zeld."
He took my lips in his wrapping his arms around me. Taking my breath away with the emotion he felt in that kiss. Regretfully he pulled away making me growl.
He laughed.
"We have plenty of time for that. For now we have a war to stop."
I nodded as we shifted and headed back to the pack.
I didn't know how we were going to do it especially in three weeks but I knew if anyone could it would be Zeld. Together we will turn the wolves away from the corruption that had tainted their souls.
