Chereads / Cursed wolf / Chapter 41 - 41. Time wasted

Chapter 41 - 41. Time wasted

When we got got back across the water Zeld was pacing near the fire. The second I landed he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thank god I was so worried."

I shifted back and he growled the moment he saw my face. My split lip already starting to swell.

"What happened?!"

I started to put my clothes back on.

"Let's just say things didn't quite go to plan."

Once I was dressed he gently touched my face but I pulled away.

"I'm fine Zeld just a split lip."

"And A torn tongue by the looks of it."

I chuckled.

"Yea well it was a pretty hard punch but I got him back in the end."

Zeld growled.

"Who did it? What happened?"

I sighed.

"It was Quell he was already at the airport."

I looked at Zeld.

"Shiya has the files but on a plus note Quells dead."

Zelds eyes widened as he smiled.

"You killed him?"

"Of corse."

"That's great news with him gone Those he's has had influence over should be free of his mind control."

I nodded as he wrapped his arms around me.

"Was Keyon and the others alright?"

I remained silent causing him to pull away his hands still on my shoulders.

"Rav?"

I avoided his eyes as I answered.

"Well you see the thing was I tried to contact him but he wasn't within range so-"

"You went alone!"

I groaned.

"it wasn't that big of a deal it turned out fine in the end one dead bounty hunter checked off the list."

"That's not the point Rav!"

He threw his hands up in frustration I shushed him.

"You'll wake the others."

"I don't fucking care Rav what if you'd gotten too hurt to fly back? Your alpha of the pack If you go down so does the pack."

I waved it off.

"Zeld stop being dramatic it wasn't a big deal, do you think so little of my skills."

He sighed.

"Of course not Rav but your not in this by yourself you have a whole pack to back you up."

"I know that Zeld but what could I do I wasn't going to spend hours searching for Keyon."

He stared down at me til he finally pulled Me close.

"Your right. I'm sorry I just.."

He kissed me gently so as not to hurt my sore lip.

"I just worry about you and now that we've marked each other that worry has intensified."

I hugged him tight.

"I'm sorry Zeld I honestly didn't plan to go alone I'll be more careful next time I promise."

His hand snaked through my hair as he pulled me even closer.

"That's all I ask."

Kissing the top of my head he pulled me to the ground.

"Let's get some sleep since you didn't get a hold of Keyon you'll have to make another trip to the island to get us a boat."

I snuggled into his arms as I closed my eyes the light of the dying fire still shining through my eyelids.

In the morning we told Talieus about the incident at the airport. He had the same reaction as Zeld.

"What the hell were you doing there alone?!"

I scowled.

"Not you too?"

I waved him off.

"Zelds already beat you to it. Once the pack is on a boat to Upernavik I promise I won't go any where alone again. Are you happy now?"

Talieus turned to Zeld at my sarcastic tone.

"I hope you know what your getting into having her as a mate?"

Zeld laughed staring down at me with all the love he had.

"Believe me I know. she was high maintenance before we were mates."

I punched him in the arm.

"Bite me!"

He kissed my mark.

"I already have."

I giggled at this as Talieus threw up his hands in defeat.

"Never mind let's just get the pack over to the dam island before she does something else just as stupid."

I smiled at he walked off to talk to another pack member.

"I'd better go the sooner we get to the island the better."

I started to undress when Zeld stopped me.

"Rav-"

I cut him off.

"I know don't worry I'll be in an-"

He growled.

"Don't say it!"

I laughed.

"Fine I'll be back before you know it."

Zeld kissed me.

"You better be."

I finished undressing and I second later I was in the air headed for the island once more.

With the early hours of the morning the town of Upernavik was starting to come alive as people started to wake with the morning hours. Unlike last night it was a buzz with humans starting their day. I saw with my eagle eyes the police already on their way to the airport no doubt they had found the body of the bounty hunter.

I ignored it winging my way towards the docks. Once again I'd have to find clothes it was annoying but nothing could be done to help it. This time around Zeld had strapped a credit card to my leg so that I could pay for the boat.

I landed on a boat that was at the end of the docks. It was empty so was the perfect chance to find some clothes. Luckily they owner of the boat seemed to be female since they had clothes that fit me perfectly.

Now fully clothed I headed towards the biggest boat I could find seeing as I had fifty pack members to transport nothing less would do.

I finally came across a long liner meant for crab fishing.

'Perfect now I just have to convince him to make a side trip.'

'If the price is right I'm sure they won't mind.'

'Good thing Tharon had a separate bank account set up for Zeld.'

'Indeed.'

I headed towards the boat as workers were already preparing to set out. Asking the first person I saw if they could point me towards the captain. It didn't take long before I found a burly man giving orders to the others. He scowled as I approached him.

"Out of the way missy!"

I matched him scowl for scowl.

"I need to talk to the captain I'm told that's you?"

He narrowed his eyes at me.

"I don't need more hands especially ones that wouldn't last a day at sea."

He started to walk away but I grabbed his arm.

"I have a job for you and I'll pay good money for it."

I paused.

"I lot of money."

He stopped turning back his eyes narrowed as his interest was piqued.

"I'm listening."

"I need you to go to the main island and pick up something."

He scowled.

"If it's something illegal I'm not interested I can't afford to be investigated by the police."

I shook my head.

"It's nothing illegal I just need you to pick up my family."

He laughed.

"Your family? What is this girly some kind of joke?"

He started to walk away but I pulled him back again.

"Name your price!"

He rubbed his chin thinking.

"So your not joking?"

He paused.

"Well since I'll be loosing half the day of fishing let's say fifty thousand."

"Done."

His eyes widened then added.

"Paid up front."

"You don't trust me?"

He chuckled.

"I trust no one especially when it comes to money."

I crossed my arms.

"I'll pay you half now and half when my family are delivered safely back here."

He nodded extending his hand.

"Deal."

I shook his hand as we headed to the office to transfer the first payment.

It didn't take long before we were on our way.

'Finally something went right for once.'

I chuckled.

'Yea it's about time too.'

'Just don't jinx it.'

I stood on the deck as I looked towards our destination. Soon the pack would be in enemy territory so to speak.

"So this family of yours whats the story anyway?"

I silently berated myself I should've thought of a story before I organising the boat. Thinking quickly I answered.

"Our village was attacked by wolves and since they are protected it was better that we leave then stay."

His eyes widened.

"Village? There are no villages that far in? Just how many people are we picking up?"

I hesitated then responded with the number.

"Fifty two."

"Fifty two! You lied to me!"

I smiled.

"I did nothing of the sort all of them are my family you failed to ask how many when we made our agreement. However I will throw in an extra five thousand for the inconvenience."

He went to argue again but stopped.

"Make it ten."

"Seven and not a penny more."

He scoffed thinking he had won though jokes on him I would've paid the ten. The money that was in Zelds account extended to the millions.

"Deal."

I extended my hand this time as he took it smiling.

"I will warn you there aren't enough jobs for all your people in upernavik."

I smiled.

"We won't be here long just need to take care of something and we will find a new home on the main island. I would ask for your help in returning when the time comes there will be more money?"

He grinned widely.

"I don't know what this business of yours is but as long as you keep me and mine out of it and the money clears I'd be happy too."

I inclined my head.

"Thank you."

He walked away leaving me to continue starring at the heart of Greenland as it steadily got bigger the closer we got.

'We have to start thinking about what to do once the pack is in Upernavik.'

'I know from here on out it's going to get hard. Without those files we won't know who to trust.'

'It is a dangerous game we are entering and there are no rules.'

'Yes lets just hope Quells death has weakened their position like we think.'

The future was still unsure but while we still had time i was determined to see it til the end no matter what happens as long as we were together that was all that mattered.

As we neared the shore the boat anchored just off the coast as the captain set out smaller boats to pick up the pack. It took a few trips but finally on the last trip was Zeld and Talieus.

When Zeld hit the deck he gathered me in his arms.

"I'm guessing everything went fine this time?"

I smiled.

"Of course."

"Still no sign of Keyon?"

I shook my head I had tried calling him again but once again was met with silence.

"No I still can't reach him maybe once we start getting closer to the mountains it will be easier to reach him."

"Maybe. I just hope they are alright."

I nodded.

"You have a fine lady there my boy she drives a hard bargain."

Zeld turned to the burly captain.

"That she does."

"Sorry to hear about your troubles with those wolves though how you and yours survive in those conditions is beyond me."

Zeld smiled playing along to my obvious lie.

"Indeed captain the winters are hard but we manage."

"I bet and having someone to stay away the cold nights helps."

He winked at Zeld who smiled though I knew he was holding in his anger. Though Zeld knew it was harmless banter wolves were very possessive of their mates.

"True enough."

"Well suppose we better get back the sooner we drop you lot off the sooner we can get to fishing."

The captain sundered off. Once he was gone I turned back to Zeld.

"We need a plan for when we get to Upernavik."

Zeld nodded.

"Any ideas?"

I thought about it.

"The problem is we don't know the island even the pack would have no knowledge of its terrain."

I turned to where the captain had disappeared.

"Maybe we could ask Yuri if he has any maps of Upernavik. Most ships have maps showing mountain ranges and the like. We could use them to figure out where they may be."

Zeld nodded.

"Good idea."

Together we went up to the helm. The captain turned to us as we entered.

"What can I do you for?"

"We were just wondering if you had any maps of Upernavik?"

I laughed.

"Why of course young lady just over there you'll find what your looking for."

He pointed to a desk with shelves above it that had heaps of rolled up maps. Zeld and I went through them til we found what we were looking for unrolling it.

"There's not really any mountains to hide in."

Zeld mused.

"No."

"Did you see anything when you were flying above the island."

I shook my head.

"It was always dark so no."

"Then where could they be?"

I shrugged.

"I had thought the town too small to house them all but maybe I was wrong."

Zeld spun back to face Greenland.

"Unless their not here at all!"

I grabbed Zelds shoulder.

"Luna!"

His eyebrows knit in confusion.

"What about her?"

"When I was fighting Quell he mentioned that Shiya was after something other then me."

I growled in frustration.

"Shes not after me at all she after the moon goddess herself!"

Zeld's eyes widened.

"with us gone she has a clear path to her."

I nodded turning to Yuri.

"You have to take us back!"

He laughed.

"Your joking right?"

Zeld grabbed him by the collar growling.

"Take us back now!"

Not wanting to have Zeld hurt the human I added.

"I'll pay you double!"

His smiled returned.

"Fine but you come back with me to make good on your deal."

I nodded.

"Fine just turn back now!"

He groaned.

"So much for an easy day."

As he continued to mumble about inconveniences Zeld whispered.

"You can't go back with him!"

I shook my head.

"We have no choice I can fly you can't and I'll not run from what I'm owed."

Zeld sighed.

"Fine but as soon as you've paid him fly straight back."

I nodded.

I couldn't believe how stupid we had been. Shiya had planned out every move and we had played right into it. All the time wasted coming all the way here for nothing. I growled to myself.

'We weren't to know.'

'I should've known. With everything Luna showed us how could she have not known about this?'

'Maybe she did.'

Of course she did! she planned for us to leave and In doing so she saved the pack. If we had been there when Shiya came we would all be dead.

'She knew she was going to die so she sent us away to save the pack she created.'

I was stupid this whole time who knows whether we will reach it back in time. All this time we had been angry at what she was going to do now I knew it was all a ruse to get us to leave. I stared at the main island. Please Luna just hold on we will be there soon.
