Chereads / Cursed wolf / Chapter 40 - 40. Death of a bounty hunter

Chapter 40 - 40. Death of a bounty hunter

Three days later the town of upernavik was in our sights. The past three days went without incident much to our relief. As we looked out at the island that was upernavik the hardest part was getting the whole pack over to the island.

It was easy when it was just Zeld and I since we were only two but even with only half the pack there was still fifty of us. The only way over was by boat and most of the pack had had little to no interaction with humans.

We had decided to wait til tomorrow to hire a boat to take the pack over. Even now they were settling in for the night for a much needed rest after running for three days straight.

Talieus, Zeld and I sat around the fire as we discussed our next plan of action.

"How do you plan on getting a boat? It's not like they come to the main island very often."

I smiled.

"I'll fly over and hire one."

Talieus laughed.

"Yes I had heard you could shift into any shape."

His eyes narrowed as he looked at me.

"Since we have some time I'm curious how that works?"

I stared at him confused.

"How what works?"

"Well do you have to have seen the shape you transform into or do you just name it in your head and poof."

I chuckled at his choice of words.

"To be honest I've never thought about it I guess it's like an instinct. I think about what I need like flight then..."

"Poof."

Talieus finished making me laugh again as I nodded.

"For lack of a better word yes."

His hands rubbed his chin in thought.

"Interesting. Have you tried shifting into something that's extinct?"

I remained silent I had never thought to try.

"Perhaps we could use this to our advantage."

I narrowed my eyes.

"How so?"

He shrugged.

"I don't know yet let me think on it."

Zeld continued with the matter at hand.

"So once we get to the island we meet up with Keyon?"

I nodded.

"Yes hopefully with the information he's been able to gather, we will be able to formulate a more solid plan."

"Hopefully he at least found out where their holding Loki."

"And if they haven't?"

I turned to Talieus.

"Then we'll just have to find out for ourselves."

"As long as we can keep out of Shiyas way until we absolutely have to."

I nodded as another thought came to mind.

"I'm curious to know what happened to Tharon?"

Zeld agreed as I continued.

"last we heard Shiya was planning on using her bounty hunter against him."

"The last time I saw him was when he gave me the file."

My eyes snapped open.

"The file!"

I suddenly got excited how could I have forgot about the file. Well I know how, I'd been so caught up trying to become alpha I had completely forgotten about it.

"What file?"

Talieus asked as I turned to him.

"There's a file at the upernavik airport that tells us who is loyal to Shiya and who isn't."

I faced Zeld again.

"We need to get that file tonight."

Zeld shook his head.

"No way your not going alone."

"I have to the longer we leave it there the more we risk Shiya getting it."

"Rav the pack will be there tomorrow I'm sure it can wait one more night."

I stood.

"I'm doing this Zeld I won't be able to sleep til I know that file is safe from Shiya even if I just make sure its still there. It's not like I can carry it back in the shape of an eagle. I'll be in and out."

Zeld sighed.

"You promise?"

I nodded.

"In and out, it'll be easy."

Zeld wrapped his arms around me.

"I know there's no stopping you once your minds made up so go, but before you do find Keyon have him help. Then he could also organise the boat for the rest of us instead of you flying back tomorrow."

I smiled it was a good idea.

"Looks like we have a plan."

Zeld held me tighter kissing my lips.

"Go Rav and stay safe."

I nodded as I stripped out of my clothes and shifted into an eagle. I screeched at Zeld once.

"I love you."

I sent through the mind link as I lifted into the air towards the island. I only hoped like hell I wasn't too late. Why didn't I memorise it? I know there was a lot of information to memorise but still I should have kept it safer.

The northern lights provided light in the sky but visibility of the town below was still minimal. It was late in the night so there were very few lights on. My first priority was clothes. if I get caught I'd hate for it to be while I was naked.

Soaring closer to the ground the town was so quiet I wondered if anyone was even there. I laughed to myself considering upernavik was a town of about two thousand people of corse it would be quiet.

'We should reach out to Keyon.'

'Your right we should be in range by now.'

Stretching my mind link I yelled.

"Keyon!"

I was met with silence.

'Guess there not as close to town as we thought.'

'Well it makes sense this town isn't big enough to house five packs of about a hundred members each as well as their residents. They must be hold up in the mountain ranges nearby.'

'I don't like it Raven it's too quiet.'

'We can't turn back now we're almost at the airport.'

'Fine but if we see anything suspicious we fly straight back.'

'Agreed.'

The small building at the airport looked even smaller from the skies. As I soared down I kept an eye out stretching my senses.

'The coast looks clear.'

'Yes too clear wouldn't there be security at least?'

I thought about it.

'Well it is a small airport maybe they only check it every couple hours or so.'

'Maybe.'

I knew Caryi was still hesitating but I had to know it was still there.

'Fine go through the employee entrance there should be some clothes for the workers you can use.'

'Good idea.'

Flying to the ground I approached the side entrance as I shifted back. Placing my hand on the door knob I broke the lock and went inside.

Sure enough there were lockers off to the side with workers clothes like snow jackets and pants. Putting them on I continued to the lobby where the paid lockers were.

'It feels strange to be back in the human world, even though no ones around of corse but still.'

Caryi chuckled.

'I know what you mean the wild is our birth right things are vastly different between the two.'

I smiled as I searched behind the main desk for the spare key to the locker since I had left mine back at the ravine.

Finally I opened a set of draws that had small compartments for each key to sit in. I went to the one marked fifteen. Opening it I found it empty.

"Looking for something?"

I spun around growling. Standing in the middle of the lobby was a male with hair as black as the shadow around him. There was a jagged scar that stretched around his thin neck. He was far from the normal build of a wolf. He was lanky as opposed to the usual muscled body of our kind.

I growled at him.

"Who are you?"

He put his hand to his heart faking a pained reaction.

"I'm hurt surely you've heard of my dealings with the lovely Shiya?"

It was then that I realised who I faced as my canines extended in anger.

"Quell!"

He laughed the sound eerie as it echoed in the quiet airport lobby.

"The one and only."

I made my hands extend into claws.

"Your mind tricks won't work on me!"

He laughed again then Turning serious his own canines extended.

"Oh I know. imagine my surprise when Zeld escaped after I was sure he was under my control."

I used my wind to throw him into the column behind him. Falling to his hands and knees a crack in the concrete at his back.

"Temper temper just like all alphas,"

His eyes glazed over.

"Just like Shiya."

I narrowed my eyes when he said her name it was as if he was obsessed with her. No wonder he never thought to use his mind power on her he was in love with her. I laughed how absurd knowing Shiya she was using his love for her to get him to do what she wanted.

I lunged at him wrapping my hand around his throat I slammed him back against the column.

"Your a fool she is using you to get what she wants."

He continued To laugh even though I had his throat.

"Of course she is I'm not stupid, I just don't care that she is I serve her despite it."

I shook my head.

"Then your insane."

He shrugged.

"Your probably right."

Without warning he swung his clawed hand aiming for my side. Jumping back out of range I narrowly avoided his claws.

He stood up straighter as he pulled the file out from the back of his pants.

"Such a small thing yet in your hands would help stack the odds in your favour. Too bad I can't let you have it."

I lunged at him again my hand stretched to grab the files but he was faster as he dodged the attack. He had moved so fast I couldn't even see it til he was standing behind me.

He sniffed my neck just before he kicked me from behind sending me flying across the floor. I rolled back to my feet sliding across the floor once again facing him as I growled.

He chuckled raising his eyebrows.

"Mind control is not the only trick up my sleeve."

A second later he was in front of me my eyes widened as he made to punch me I only just raised my arms in time his fist hitting my forearms as pain shoot up to my shoulders. The force of his punch pushing me back once again.

He cackled maliciously as his followed through with the punch kicking me in my now unguarded stomach. I sank to my knees the wind forced out of my lungs. My arms dropped giving him the opening he needed as he punched me across the face splitting my lip my canines piercing my own tongue. I was forced to the ground from his punch as I spat blood out growling back at him.

He grinned staring down at me.

"Poor little alpha I had heard your power was stronger then this."

He sighed.

"How disappointing."

He grabbed my hair forcing me to look at him.

"Pathetic so much power is wasted on the likes of you."

That was it I refused to let this monster get the best of me. He may be faster but his arrogance made him careless. Now that he was close enough I grabbed his arm digging my claws deep enough to hit bone as he screamed in pain I punched his knee shattering it as he fell to the ground.

His hand loosened from my hair. he tried to crawl backwards. Standing up spitting out more blood as I stared down at him.

"You bitch!"

I laughed just as he had laughed at me.

"Bit hard to move fast with a shattered knee cap."

He growled getting to his feet awkwardly all his weight on the one leg. I sniffed the air my smile widening.

"Do I smell fear."

He growled at me.

"You can't kill me I'm the only one that can tell you the real reason Shiya's here."

I scowled at him.

"You call me pathetic when you make up lies to save your own arse."

I raised my hand slowly I closed my fist as my wind created pressure around his other knee shattering that one too. He screamed out in pain as he again fell to the floor.

"I'm telling you the truth!"

I shrugged my shoulders.

"I don't care why she's here either sooner or later she will die whether it be by my hands or another's. what she has planned doesn't matter when she's dead."

He gritted his teeth knowing he was going to die his anger rising.

"You may have won this fight but you will not win the war, she will take away everything you love including that new mate of yours."

Instantly my hand was around his throat as his words were silenced with one twist of his neck. His body dropped to the ground lifeless. I glared down at him my canines retracting as I looked around.

'So much for in and out.'

'So much for the element of surprise too. What a mess she will know we are here now.'

Caryi sighed.

'There's nothing we can do about that now at least that's one less pawn in her arsenal.'

Bending down I pulled the file from his hand.

'At least we have this.'

'But where do we put it we can assume Shiya already knows about it by now.'

I opened up the file.

'Son of a bitch!'

I growled throwing the file the blank pages flying everywhere.

'Guess that's a yes.'

'No shit!'

I snapped.

Caryi chuckled.

'Oh well guess we go to plan b.'

I put my hands on my hips frustrated.

'And what's plan b?'

'Well with Quell gone the packs under his control should be free seems we might have a chance of winning this after all.'

I Smiled my frustration gone in an instant.

'Your right we may have lost the files but we definitely can call this trip a win.'

'Come on Raven we need to tell the others.'

I nodded looking down at the bounty hunter once more.

'What do we do with him?'

'Leave him Let Shiya clean up the mess.'

I smiled.

'Wish I could see her face when she realises her favourite pet is dead.'

I left the airport returning the workers uniform as I left shifting back to an eagle as I headed back to the pack and my mate.
