"I have never realised how boring a room can be but I guess I have seen the light" blaze said terribly bored
"why are you being so dramatic kid an infirmary can be fun" the mage said trying to cheer up blaze
"I thought it could be but for some reason the only reason people come here is because they are faking a stomachache to get out of archery practice" blaze said hoping to get out of the infirmary
"hey we have rules here if a student came in everyday with a knife wound do you know how fast we would be shutdown" the mage said
"I know but don't you know magic so why can't there be anything more exciting in here" blaze asked
"you really want to see something exciting then watch" said the mage as the room went completely silent blaze could not hear anything but weirdly he didn't have the urge to move or even talk he was completely calm but suddenly the room around him started to morph the mundane infirmary started to change to a battlefield thousands of knights charging at each other with all there might and as the knights came closer and closer blaze started to panic he was going to be killed then suddenly he looked down and he was in the sky falling through the clouds and all blaze could feel was excitement the rush of fear and panic made blaze feel constant excitement then blaze heard a noise of students walking by the infirmary door and as he heard this the sky around him started to fade and the mundane infirmary started to reappear around him and blaze was back sitting on the boring infirmary bed
" wha-what did you do" blaze asked mage confused on what exactly just happened
"you said you wanted to see something more exciting so I used magic to show you something really exciting" mage said smiling at the hope he was able give blaze a bit of a scare
"wait that was magic how do I do that" blaze asked surprising mage
"well you can't do that" mage said turning blaze's facial expression to one of complete despair
"but you could learn how to do your type of magic" mage said trying to cheer blaze up
"wait what do you mean by my type of magic" blaze asked
"well it's hard to describe but magic isn't a object or force it is a idea" mage said utterly confusing blaze
"what do you mean by idea" said blaze
"okay people think about magic in different ways and how they think about it is how they use it" mage said confusing blaze more
"you are loosing me here" blaze said hoping for mage to describe it in a easier way
"okay wait here for a second" mage said walking over to his desk and opening one of the draws and taking something out
"blaze could you close your eyes for a second" mage said hiding something behind his back
"okay but I'm scared about what you going to do" blaze said closing his eyes and hearing mage moving things around the room
"okay open your eyes" mage said in a weird voice
"are those puppets" blaze asked very confused
"yes we are" one puppet said
"I'm scruffy and he is floppy" scruffy said confusing blaze more
"we are here to explain magic to you since you are too dumb to understand" floppy said annoying blaze
"mage how old do you think I am" blaze asked scared for the answer
"mage does want to comment" scruffy said
"wait have you practice this because I haven't seen you talked to anyone else since I have been here" blaze said curious on how many times mage has done this
"mage has many friends who like watching his shows" floppy said
"and how many are those are puppets" blaze said causing a high pitched cry from mage
"are you crying?" blaze asked concerned
"no...no mage is just practicing his voices" scruffy said his voice slightly off
"okay I'm sorry why don't I be your first audience" blaze said trying to cheer up mage
"okay but you can't back out" floppy said in a serious tone
"okay but I expect a brilliant show" blaze said smiling as mage began the show
"floppy how does magic work" scruffy asked floppy
"magic works the way we think it works" floppy said causing a confused expression on both scruffy and blaze
"for example the way mage thinks what magic is lets him cast illusion and support magic easily but destruction and modifications sucks and nobody should use it because it is not useful and not because I can't do it" floppy said angrily
"wait what way does mage think what magic is" blaze asked
"people who use magic keep how they use it a secret because if anyone find out they could exploit it" floppy said helpfully
"for example let's say we have a mage who thinks magic is a force what flows through everything like a idiot you could take them to a desert where there is nothing" floppy said bluntly
"wait so how have people been able to categorize magic if everyone thinks about magic in different ways" blaze asked by putting his hand up
"this kid ask a lot of questions and why is he putting his hand up he is the only other person in the room" scruffy said to floppy
"I don't know but I have to answer" floppy said to scruffy then facing towards blaze
"well it was pretty easy you see the kingdom thought of five different categories," said floppy
"The first is destruction if the persons magic the main function is to destroy objects or living things then it is destruction" scruffy said launching a fireball at floppy sending him back
"The second is an illusion if a person's magic main function is to alter a person's perception on an object, area, reality or thoughts then it's illusion" floppy said touching scruffy's shoulder causing him to scream
"help me there are giant spiders everywhere"
"the third is change if a person's magic main function is to change the function, appearance, or material of an object or person it is change" scruffy screamed turning objects around him to honey hoping to trap the spiders but instead causing him to trip over
"the fourth is support the one what nobody cares about but it is the most useful" floppy said healing the wounds of scruffy
"and the final category is miscellaneous the stuff what we can't categorize because the mage has to be special" mage said standing up walking over to blaze as the puppets and the stage disappeared
"personally I focused my magic on illusion what let me make you see the army of knights and the puppet show and I also focused my magic on support because it lets me get this job," the mage said depressingly
"okay will I learn magic" blaze asked excitingly
"well maybe or maybe not it really depends," the mage said in a very unhelpful way
"depends on what?" blaze asked terrified on what it could be
"well the academy teaches magic to the good students good at the magic that is so if you are good at the magic you will probably learn how to use it," the mage said trying to give blaze hope
"oh I forgot I have to take you to the welcoming assembly!" the mage said frantically rushing blaze out the door.
