Appearing on the balcony, I looked towards the direction of the sinister presence. A little over a mile away, I could make out something large running towards the mountain. Frustrated that I couldn't make it out better, I cast a spell on the air in front of me.
"{Telescopic Lens}"
Looking through the warped air, I could easily make out the monster in the distance. It appeared to be bigger than an elephant and covered in some type of hard carapace. It had long front arms and shorter back legs, giving it the appearance of a mutated gorilla. There were spikes along its shoulders and back and smoke seemed to be leaving though the cracks in its body.
"What in the world is that?" I wondered. "Didn't I have some sort of appraisal skill?"
"[Appraisal]!"
------------------------------------------------
Species: Mamotrite
Description: The Mamotrite is a four legged monster encompassed about by an extremely hard shell. Literally burning anything that it consumes, the monster possesses both extreme power and speed as well as deadly fire attacks. It is extremely intelligent, but has an insasiable hunger that causes it to attack all in its path. Generally only found in the barren wastes. Weaknesses include high level ice attacks and lightning attacks.
Rank: SS
------------------------------------------------
"A Mamotrite, huh?" I muttered, looking at the approaching monster. "It looks like it will definitely attack me if it keeps coming here. It would probably be best to launch a preemptive strike."
"{Falling Iceberg}"
Above the approaching Mamotrite, a block of ice several hundred meters across began to form. Within seconds it was finished and began hurtling towards the monster. In spite of its incredible speed, it had now way to avoid my attack. Crashing into it, the iceberg shattered and steam rushed in all directions.
"I had better make sure it is dead," I muttered worriedly. From what I knew, double S rank monsters were the most powerful there were. I definitely didn't want that to catch me unawares.
"{Gust}"
Peering through the dispersing stream, I sighed in relief when I saw the monster shattered in pieces on the ground.
"{Teleport}"
I stood before the monster and remembered the monster parts could be sold or used in various ways, but I didn't have the necessary knowledge at the moment to process the corpse. However, Yolmin had told me that one use of the space-time element was to store things.
"{Storage}"
The monster corpse that had overwhelmed me its size immediately vanished. With the monster gone, the strength seemed to leave my body and I had to sit down. It appeared the its appearance had left me very tense.

'It looks like my HP rises by about ten per level, while the MP is probably random,' I thought as I examined my status and rested. 'I understand the magic skill, but what about smithing? Was it because of making those metal doors?'
Just as I stood, I heard another roar from the direction that the mamotrite had been running. Looking toward it, I saw a number of dragons flying in formation through the air. Dragons were included among the sentient races of this world. With high strength and magic power, they also possessed a skill that allowed them to assume human form. However, they were also a rather proud race that avoided meddling with others. Why were they here?
Landing a short distance from me, one of them spoke in a deep rumbling voice that reminded me of stones grinding together.
"Are you the one who defeated the Mamotrite, oh terrifying one?"
"Are you referring to me?" I asked in surprise. "What about me is terrifying?"
"You possess a magic power that far surpasses the elders of our race," he answered in a grim tone.
"Well, to answer your question, yes I did defeat it. It was heading towards my home and I figured that it would be better to attack it before it could try to eat me," I answered honestly. "Were you hunting it for some reason? You can have the corpse if you want."
"No no," the dragon said in a slightly panicked tone. "Mamontrites are dangerous monsters that consume all in there path. Whenever one appears, we hunt them down to ensure that they don't cause damage to us and others."
"Well, that's good," I sighed in relief. "Oh, I am Orin."
"Greetings great Orin. I apologize for my rudeness, I am Ruden, a captain of the sky raiders," he answered, bowing his head to me.
"Nice to meet you," I responded, a little uncomfortable with his formal tone. "I also hope that you will forgive my rude speech."
"No need," Ruden said, with a dragon's equivalent of a smile. "I take it that the mountain that has appeared where there was none is your home?"
"That is correct, for now. There isn't any problem with that, right?"
"None at all. No kingdom has claimed the barren wastes. However, may we request the opportunity to speak with you again?"
"Sure, I actually haven't talked to anyone since I came here. Having visitors every once in a while would be nice."
"Then until we meet again," Ruden said as the dragons easily took to the sky.
It was a magnificent sight as their red scales shimmered in the sun. It also looked like it would be fun to fly. Wait, couldn't I do that as well?
