Chapter 5 - Escapees

Flying over the wastes, I easily approached the mountain. However, as I got closer, I noticed that there was a green belt around the base of the mountain. That didn't make sense to me because almost nothing grew in the wastes.

Dropping down near the base, I was surprise to find the ground covered in a lush carpet of green grass and shrubs. The tree that I had helped earlier had shot up and now towered above me where before it had been a little shorter than me. Its branches were also burdened with tons of the blue fruit from before.

"But how is this possible?" I asked as I wandered around the grass. "Wait, didn't grass grow wherever I slept while I was traveling? But the question is still how."

Suddenly, I remembered something about this world. Magic power flowed naturally through nature, and the more dense it was, the better things would grow. There reason that the wastes were barren, was because almost no magic power flowered through he normally. If there was enough magic power, things could even bloom inside of a volcano, but they would be different from what grew in a forest.

"Okay, so maybe my magic power is causing this, but even the dragons with their big power supply shouldn't be able to influence things that much," I muttered as I thought things through. "Wait, wasn't there an odd skill in my status? Yes, here it is! 'MP release.' Lets see if 'appraisal' works on skills. [Appraisal]!"

------------------------------------------------

Name: MP release

Description: This skill allows for excess MP to be utilized by releasing it naturally from the body. This is a unique skill created by the god Yolmin. There is also a note attached that says, 'Sorry, when I was creating your body, I found that even if I made it as strong as possible, there was still the possibility of damage due to stress caused by the 'super MP regeneration' skill that you have. This will make sure you don't explode!'

------------------------------------------------

"That god really make me worry about exploding," I grumbled after reading Yolmin's note. "But I guess that this why grass springs up around me. I naturally release enough magic power to change the environment. Would environmentalists like or hate me back on earth?"

Humming softly to myself, I decided to keep improving my surroundings so that I could enjoy my new home. First, some more water.

"{Hole}"

"{Create Spring}"

Flowing my directions, my magic carved a deep hole big enough for a large lake in front of the mountain. In the depths of the hole, I created a spring of fresh water. I don't really know how magic can do this, but it is extremely convenient.

"Hmm, I don't want the water to overflow and flood the tunnels."

"{Carve canal}"

Satisfied with my work, I flew back up to my rooms to rest. Even though I had fought a SS rank monster and remodeled the landscape, my magic power hardly felt depleted at all. But meeting dragons and discovering that Yolmin had almost made me explode, again, had drained me mentally.

Over the next couple days, the foliage around the mountain continued to expand and even trees began to grow. I really don't know why several different types of fruit tree suddenly sprang up from the ground, but they were all delicious. Using 'appraisal' I also discovered that several herbs with medical uses were growing around me, but it didn't give me the needed information to make the medicines. Besides that, I could just use light and water magic to heal myself if I got hurt.

As I was tending to some of the trees, a search magic that I had created after the Mamotrite attack signaled that a group was approaching. I didn't feel the same sinister presence from last time, but it didn't hurt to be careful.

"{Fly}{Invisible}"

Hiding myself, I flew towards the source of the signal. It was a few dozen miles away from the mountain. At this distance, you couldn't see the forest that was growing around it, just the spike of rock in the wasteland.

Arriving, I discovered a band of tattered boys from a couple different races desperately trying to flee from a pack of wolf-like monster. One of the older ones was trying to herd the younger ones while fending off the monsters. Deciding to fight first and ask questions later, I removed my invisibility and began attacking the monsters.

"{Stone Wall}{Physical Shield}{Magical Shield}"

A stone wall sprung up between the boys and the monster. It was followed quickly by a bubble shaped shield around the group to protect them from stray attacks. I had very little experience with fighting and I would feel awful if I hurt them by accident. Now, for the monsters.

"{Stone Spikes}{Fire Field}"

Following my thoughts, spike began stabbing through the monsters faster than they could react. As my fire spell activated, the horde of wolf monsters was swiftly engulfed in blueish-white flames. Within a minute, even the ash had disappeared.

Setting down within shouting distance of the group, I removed the shielding spells. As soon as the wall and shield had sprung up around them, they had herded the younger boys into the middle, while the older ones looked ready to fight. None of them were armed and they were only clothed in rags. I could only shake my head in admiration that they had managed to fight off the wolf monsters at all. The people of this world must be made of sterner stuff than earth.

"What are you going to do to us?" the boy in the front demanded. Like the others, his body was ill cared for, but a fiery determination burned in his eyes.

"I just want to check if any of you are hurt," I shouted back. A couple of them looked like they could collapse at any moment. Even if I had been a loner in my previous life and asked Yolmin to place me far from humans, I would have to be heartless to not want to care for them.

"How do we know that you aren't going to take us back to those despicable nobles!?"

"Nobles?" I asked in surprise. Were they escaped slaves or something? This could get complicated, but I still couldn't make myself abandon them. "I don't plan on returning you anywhere, but in case you didn't know, these are the barren wastes. Almost nothing grows here and you won't find water."

"It is still better than going back," the boy yelled belligerently.

Sighing at his attitude, I was sure that it would take a while for them to trust me, and some of them didn't look like they would last. Deciding to show my intentions with my actions, I quickly gather some magic power around us.

"I understand that you aren't willing to trust someone you just met, but you won't last long, so sorry."

The boy looked like he was going to yell something back, but I moved faster.

"{Mass Teleport}"
