Chapter 3 - Home

The next morning, I woke up and decided to explore my new home. The path branched in three directions in front of me. The middle one was level, while the paths to the right and left led upwards and downwards, respectively.

Shrugging my shoulders, I began walking down the middle path. The image that I had used was based off of dwarves tunneling through rock and creating homes. After a few meters, I came across a room-like cave on one side. After a few more, the was one on the other. They were all bare, but well made and level. After passing a few dozen rooms, the path ended in a large room with a number of basins. There were also holes in the floor of the basins as well as the walls. It gave the impression of a public bath without the water.

"How odd," I muttered aloud. I hadn't really thought of this that much. Maybe the magic had improved on my original idea?

Turning around, I explored the right most path and found that there were a number of levels within the mountain. The upper floors also had rooms and bathing-like areas, as well as great open rooms that looked like they could be adapted to various uses. There were even windows and vents that allowed for fresh air. I was shocked at how well the magic had created a place for me to live.

Finally, I reached the seventh floor from and found that it was arranged with only one small room for living, but a number of larger rooms and a window and balcony.

"Wow!" I exclaimed, moving out to stand on the balcony.

The view allowed me to see for miles into the wastelands. The balcony wrapped around the entire mountain, allowing me to looking any direction. It also had two entrances, but the walls were arranged prevent a constant wind from blowing through. I was struck by both the beauty of the view and how utterly alone I was. For miles around my mountain, there was nothing but scrubby plants and rock. Not a single sign of life.

Sighing softly to myself, I decided to make this place my home. It was the most isolated part of the mountain, but with my magic I shouldn't have a problem quickly coming and going. But first, I wanted to make things a little more comfortable. The basic structure was here, but things like windows and doors were missing. Standing before one of the entrances to the balcony, I focused my thoughts on the image of a metal door with some glass panels.

The earth around the opening began to wiggle and flow into the shape of the door than I had imagined. After the shape was complete, the rock smoothly changed to metal and glass. Grinning at my success, I continued to make doors on the rest of the openings. I also managed to install a lock of sorts on the door that led down to the lower floors. You never knew if someone might come exploring while I was asleep.

Satisfied with my work, I went to my bedroom and began to make some furniture to sit on. Realizing that I hadn't really looked at myself since coming to this world, I decided to create a mirror in the bathing area.

"{Create Mirror}"

Looking at myself, I had a slender figure, but I was appeared to be just about 5' 8" and dressed in a cream-colored robe, shirt and pants. I was also wearing a pair of sturdy leather boot that reached to the mid-calf. My skin was shockingly pale despite walking in the hot sun for several days. My originally brown hair had become white, while my brown eyes were now a swirling kaleidoscope of color. I wonder if it had something to do with the magic power that my soul had absorbed? I think that my looks would be considered astonishing back on earth, but this was a world full of elves and demons and various other creatures. Maybe I would be considered normal?

Waking up the next day, I stretched and leisurely began to walk around my home. After eating a few fruits, I thought about what I should do for the day.

"I still haven't seen what it looks like under the mountain," I commented aloud. Was I talking to myself too much?

"{Teleport}"

Instantly, I found myself at the crossroads that led from the ground floor to the floors above and below it. Taking the left path, I began to head deeper into the earth. At the end of the path, it opened up into a single enormous chamber. There wasn't anything here, but I noticed a number of holes similar to the ones that I had found in the bathing area. Struck by an idea, I moved to the floor above.

"{Teleport}"

Then, I directed some water into one of the holes in the wall before quickly returning. To my joy, the water was falling from the rightmost hole. If my thoughts were right, then I could use this area to pump water to the upper floors. Now the only question was how. For now, I guess that I would have to leave this project unfinished. I could always uses magic to supply myself with hot water anyway.

Walking calmly towards the upper floors, a terrifying roar ripped through the air. I could also feel an amazingly sinister presence approaching my location. Realizing that I may be in danger, I moved back to the balcony of my floor.
