Not long later, It was Maddie's stop. I couldn't help but ogle at the castle she was living in. Before getting off, we quickly exchanged numbers. After saying goodbye to her, she got off the bus and left. I watched as the bus slowly continued moving to drop of the remaining students. Plugging my headphones in, I settled down in my seat. Prepared for the rest of the long bus ride.
***
School had ended at around 2:30pm but I didn't get home until about 3:50pm. Thanking the bus driver, I quickly got off the bus and walked up to my door. Before I could put in my keys, the door swung open.
"Ahh!" I screamed before falling down. My mom looked at me apolitically.
"Whoops.. forgot you scare easy.." she said. I groaned getting up annoyed. My butt was sure to have a mark or two from the times I had fallen on it.
"Thanks for the warm welcome." I said once I stood up. Picking up my phone, I saw the screen had cracked. I stared at my mom who looked at my screen and then me sheepishly. I sighed before walking past her and into the house, already strutting up the stairs to my room.
"I'll get you a new one!" She yelled. I closed my door.

I freshened up before working on my homework, my mom opened the door quietly.
"Homework on the first day?" She said. I nodded without looking at her.
"These teachers are trying to kill you." She joked. I let out a small smile. She sat on my bed next to my desk in the corner of my room.
"How was school?" She said. I shrugged.
"It was good. By the way, this weekend can I have a friend over?" I stopped doing my homework to look at her. She just blinked.
"What? What did you say?" She said. I hugged before turning back to my homework.
"Nevermind then-"
"No no no! That's not what I meant." She quickly put her hand over my homework, making me look at her. "Did you say friend?" She said, a small smile waiting to bloom. I stared at her with a annoyed expression. I nodded.
And just like that, my mom jumped up, squealing while parading around the house before running back into my room to hug me tightly. She left a kiss on my cheek. I groaned.
"My daughter made her first friend!!" She continued to squeal. I turned my chair to face her.
"You do know I've had other friends." I said. She looked at me and gave me a knowing face.
"Not ever since school ended," she said. Memories flashed through my head but I ignored them. Getting up, I made my way downstairs. Checking on the plant.
"So, who is she? Or he, but there will be no dating! Not until your birthday at least. Is it a guy? In that case I'll have to be home when-"
"Mom! Please stop overreacting!" I said turning around to face her. She quickly stopped tracing behind me. She had a look of shock and denial cross her face.
"What?! I am not! Overreacting? Please!" She scoffed crossing her arms. I crouched down to see the bright red plant was growing well.
I tapped one of the petals gently. It curled ever so slightly. My eyes went wide. But before I could touch it again, my mom coughed.
"Is it a guy?" She said.
"Mom!"
