Chapter 16 - The Party Invitation-Chapter 16

The day after, my mom wouldn't stop pestering me about who was coming. Finally I told her, expecting the questions to stop.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

For the next few days the amount of questions got more and more, I wasn't even sure how many times she had asked me what she looked like, if I had a picture, or if she had an older brother I knew. My face turned beet red and I finally reached my breaking point.

"Mom!!" I yelled. She quickly kept quiet.

"Maybe I should just call her right now and cancel it seeing as you obviously can't control yourself just hearing about her! God forbid she actually sets foot in this household, I bet you'll adopt her the second she does!" I yelled angrily. She looked at me, still in denial.

"Of course not sweetie! I'm just-"

"Curious? Yeah well you haven't been this curious about me in all my years I've been alive!" I stated. She gasped again.

"That is not true!" She said

"Mom, the second I said we wanted to roast marshmallows, you bought a years worth of them!" I said, pointing the the kitchen cabinets filled with bags on marshmallows. She look at me.

"T-that's in case you run out.." she said. I raised a brow.

"You bought fresh blankets and bed sheets for our bed fort! You were going to buy her a swimsuit for if she wanted to swim!!" I said. My mom stayed silent. I sighed loudly before looking back at her.

"Mom, I appreciate this, really, I do. But don't spend money on useless things, there is no reason you needed to go out of your way to buy more blankets and bedsheets." I spoke quieter. She nodded.

"I'm, im just worried dear, you have never invited any of your friends to the house before, I just wanted to make sure you had something to show off about I guess.." she said. "I'll stop pestering you now..." she said before walking away. I couldn't help but start to feel guilty for yelling at her hearing what she said. She wanted to make her I had something to show off? Was she afraid my friends would find our house too small? I couldn't help but frown. Sighing. I stopped her from walking up the steps.

"I'm sorry for yelling Mom. But there's no need to worry so much. Maddie isn't the type to care about those types of things." I said. Her eyes sparkled.

"Maddie? You say?" She said. I glanced at her.

"Mom..." I warned. She smiled before shaking her head.

"I'm only kidding. I've learned my lesson." She said. "Maybe I'll go out with some of my friends from work that weekend, you would have the house to yourself. I looked at her amused.

"I thought you wanted to see what she looks like?" I said. My mom laughed.

"I was only joking... unless?" She started. I quickly ran upstairs to my room.

"Not a chance!" I yelled from my room before closing the door. Smiling brightly, I continued my homework.

It was the day that Maddie was supposed to come over, I was extremely exited. Although it was only the first week of us knowing each other, we were already fairly close. I could that me and her had a lot more in common than expected. We decided to wear similar outfits today. A grey hoodie with our hair in a bun. I smiled looking at my outfit. My black ripped jeans looked nicer than usual. I was guessing it was because of my good mood.

I wasn't one to usually match with anyone. But for some reason, I didn't mind the idea of matching with Maddie. My mom then knocked on my door.

"Sweetie! The bus is here!" She said.

"Coming!" I yelled back. Packing the rest of my things, I ran downstairs my mom stopped me.

"Your breakfast!" She said. I turned to the kitchen and grabbed two granola bars before pecking her cheek.

"Bye mom!" I said. Running out of the house, I quick made my way onto the bus. I sat in my usual seat as the bus soon started to drive. I took out my phone and texted Maddie.

"Bus is on the way, u ready?" I sent her. In a couple of seconds, she responded.

"Ya, already up! Your wearing the yellow hoodie right?" She responded.

"Wdym yellow, I thought it was pink?" I responded smiling. She quickly texted back.

"Your kidding.... right?" She said. I chuckled lightly before texting her back.

"You'll just have to wait and see" I said. Not waiting for her response, I turned my music on before tucking my phone away. Pulling out my granola bar, I started to eat it. My smile not leaving my face as I pondered in which color Maddie would show up in.

Upon arriving at the school, I hurried of the bus to see Maddie waiting for me. She smiled after seeing me. I couldn't help but laugh.

"You scared me! I though I would be the only one wearing it! She said. I laughed louder.

"At least you're wouldn't look over dressed! I was planning on sending you a photo of a bright pink dress and say that was what I was wearing. I joked. She snorted before rolling her eyes.

"What ever, like I would have fallen for that." She said. We both turned to look a teacher. We erupted into laughter.

Walking into our first class together, we were talking when suddenly another student approached us. She stared at Maddie.

"Hey Maddie, I was wondering if you were doing anything this weekend. My mom is hosting this big party, wanna come?" The girl asked. Shifting uncomfortably, I was going to make my way towards my seat when Maddie grabbed my hand.

"Actually, I'm busy. Thanks for the invite though!" She said. She then turned to me.

"Where do you think you were going? I hadn't even finished my story!" She said. A smile found its way to my lips again before I nodded.

"Sorry, you were saying, my queen." I joked. We laughed before heading to our seats. I hadn't noticed it then, but the girl once standing in front of Maddie was clenching l her fists tightly with an angry expression on her face. Glaring at me.

At our seats, I turned to Maddie.

"Why didn't you say yes? Sounded like that was a big event to say no to." I said. Maddie shrugged.

" Not the biggest fan of huge parties. Plus, I've never spoken to that girl before." She said. I looked at her shocked.

"Really? By the way she was looking at you I thought you guys were childhood friends!" A said. She shook her head.

"Oh well, either way, I'm still going to your house, remember?" She said. I groaned sarcastically.

"Dang it! I was hoping of getting rid of you!" I said. She laughed in response. Soon, the teacher walked in. The class quickly quieted down. Class couldn't have gone by quicker and soon we were off to our next class. Surprisingly, many students noticed our matching outfits, some even telling Maddie how pretty she looked. Her expression almost every time turning ice cold. I snorted. Maddie turned to look at me.

"What?" She said, a smile returning to her face.

"God, you must hate everyone here with a passion." I said before laughing again. She rolled her eyes.

"Trust me, it was worst last year." She said. I faced her intrigued by the idea of the story.

"You'll have to tell me about it more this weekend." I said. With a big smile, she nodded.
