Chapter 13 - The Class- Chapter 13

One by one, the teacher made us introduce our selves. The boy next to me had just sat down after doing so. Naturally, the classes eyes fell on me. I stood up carefully, gently pushing my chair back.

"Good morning, my name is Somnium, it's great to meet you all." I said before rushing to sit down. But as soon as I touched my seat, the teacher spoke up.

"And I hear your from Colorado? Yes?" She suddenly said. Slightly stunned, I stood back up and nodded. Why was she only doing this to me?!?

"Yes.." I said.

"Great! Can you can you answer a few questions about that?" She said. It took every fiber in my body not to say no. I nodded reluctantly. Suddenly, a girl with wavy black hair raised her hand. I turned to her awkwardly.

"Is it true that you guys turned down hosting the Olympics??" She said, as if I was alive when the decision was made.

"Yes.. but-"

"What's the coldest it's gotten over there?" Someone else asked.

"Uh, Around -3°F" I answered.

"Were you born there?" Someone else shouted out.

"Yes I was." I said.

"Is the Salton Sea really that toxic?" Another yelled.

"Well yes but-"

"What's the capital?" Said a fifth person. The class erupted in laughter by the stupid question.

"Denver.." I said before sitting down awkwardly. The teacher clapped her hands again.

"Alright class! That's enough." She said before students continued to introduce themselves. At the very end, she clapped once more.

"Alright students! Now I want you to partner up and discuss this question, what do you think trigonometry is? That's going to be one of our units so pay attention to your partners ideas." She said. The class quickly erupted with voices. Shuffling there seats, students moved around. I was fiddling with my fingers in my seat when someone tapped my desk. It was the girl with the long black hair. She was smiling at me brightly.

"Hi! Wanna be partners?" She said, flashing her pearly white teeth.

"Oh, ok. Yea, sure." I stuttered. She continued looking at me. She was obviously wearing makeup, but even then, I could still tell she was naturally pretty. She had plump lips coated with a pinkish nude lipstick, her eyebrows also shaped and filled in. Her nose contoured just enough, making her natural grey eyes stand out. She was still smiling.

"Maddie, right?" I said cautiously. She nodded cheerfully before putting out her hand.

"Pleasure to meet you!" She said. I nodded and shook her hand. Her contagious and bubbly personality made it difficult to suppress a smile. We soon started discussing possible ideas. Even though I already had a somewhat understanding of it, my math class the previous year had covered this as one of our units. I pretended not to know what it meant.

The class awkwardly went by and soon it was time for my next class. As I grabbed my bag, Maddie walked up to me.

"Hey! What class you have next?" She said. Pulling out my schedule quickly, I scanned for my upcoming class.

"Uhh.. history." I said. She smiled brightly.

"Me too! Let's walk there together." I couldn't help but blush slightly. Nodding my head, I followed behind her. She lead the way with a happy smile. I slowly noticed how popular she was, while walking through the hallway, even teachers and students older than us would smile and wave as she passed. I started walking slower. It felt as if I was just following her. Just as the gap between us was getting wider, she turned around and grabbed my hand with a smile.

"Why are you walking so slow? I almost lost track of you!" She said. The people around us couldn't help but look at me. I shifted awkwardly.

"O-oh, sorry about that..." I stuttered. She smiled again and shook her head.

"No worries! Let's go!" she said. This time, walking side by side next to me, her hand holding mine softly.
