Chapter 3 - The Beach- Chapter 3

It's been a week since we had moved into our new house. After settling down, my mom was off to work, allowing me to venture around the house more. I checked every room, corner, and crack of the house and yet there was no mysteries waiting to be solved.

I was insanely bored. After finally giving up on finding something, my mom called. I picked up the phone with a sigh.

"This house is so big yet it has nothing fun to do!" I complained through the phone.

"Glad to see your doing well," she said. "Anyways dear, I'm calling to tell you that I have to stay late for work today, you can use the emergency card I gave you if you get hungry."

"What? Isn't it only your first day? And in this small town, who even gets sick?" I questioned.

"No clue Somni, just make sure the house doesn't blow up, I'll bring groceries on my way back." She said.

"Oh! Can you get Lucky Charms?" I said. She ended the call. I gasped in shock.

"How rude!"

Minutes after the call, my mom texted me.

"Why don't you check out the beach? And I promise you, there will not be a tsunami anytime soon. Also, the people coming to hook up the WiFi are gonna be there soon." She texted me. Rolling my eyes, I muttered a Bible passage underneath my breath before walking back upstairs to change into one of my many swimsuits, a black two piece. Walking back down, I headed for the screen door out to the deck.

It was a bright and sunny day, the ocean waving back and forth, colliding gently with the warm sand. Walking out to the shore, I peeled off my slippers and let the cool water cover my feet.

"Okay, so far so good." I said to myself. Taking a deep breath, I slowly moved closer to the water. Soon enough, the water was up to my waist. I stood there for a moment before taking a deep breath. I slowly moved closer until the water was just above my stomach.

"Okay, this isn't that bad." I said to my self. I then felt something tickling my leg. Jumping back in the water, I was about to smash my head on the shallow water when something grabbed my arm, it felt like a wet arm.

Gasping, I quickly put on my goggles and went underwater to see who had helped me. I

Traced the pale, human like arm to the face of, my eyes when wide.

"MERMAID?!?!!" I tried to yell underwater but ended up with a mouthful of salty seawater. I quickly stood up and went into a coughing fit, gasping for air. The strange creatures hand still gripping mine. I then realized I was gripping it back. Quickly letting go, I turned back around and was about to head for the house and call the cops, firefighters, and any other emergency services that I new off the top of my head. When something stopped me.

My feel felt like they'd been glued to the sandy ocean waters. I instantly feared for my life. I sighed and mumbled another bible verse before turning back around. As I did so, the restrains on my feet had been lifted, and the cool breeze of the wind coaxing me into the warm water. After getting back into the water, I decided it would also be good to get a closer look at this creature, for all I know, it could have been a lump of seaweed. I tried to convince myself as I put my goggles back on and took a deep breath. Diving underwater, I opened my eyes to see the same, pale like creature floating there, it's long and thick blue-ish black-ish tale waving behind me. I wanted to cry.

"That's it, I'm going to die in here, it's going to cut me up and eat me, I'm a goner." I thought to my self. The strange sea creature just started at me. It's hand reached up to touch my face but I quickly moved back, the creature winced as bubbles flew from its mouth. I quickly went back up for air before going back down. I looked at it confused. I trailed downs it's, fit, body before spotting a fish net caught onto the merman's black tail. I slowly realized why it wouldn't let me leave. I went up for air.

Coming back down, I decided to help the poor thing, who knows, maybe it won't kill me or send a tsunami to destroy my house. I gently walked over to the net. I had to work fast before I lost my breath. Gently touching the tail, the merman flinched. I pulled my hand back before looking at him apologetically. Hopefully he could read faces. I went back up for air, wondering how I could get him out. I then had an idea. Diving back under, I stared at him, hoping he would understand and let me go back into my house.

"I'll...be...back" I tried to mouth, but he just stared at me. I decided to try my luck leaving again. The wind was even colder than before. I shuddered before quickly making my way to the house, this time, my feet kept up with me. I smiled triumphantly before running towards the kitchen. Then I noticed the WiFi people were already here. And staring at me.
