Chapter 5 - The Nut- Chapter 5

I headed up for the shower and instantly peeled off my wet swimsuit. I thought to myself.

"Am I crazy? I didn't actually just see, save, and speak to a merman? That can't be possible." I said aloud. I scrubbed my brown, wavy hair. Ensuring I had gotten all of the sand out. I took a deep sigh before turning off the water and grabbing my towel. My phone that was on my bed suddenly rung. I picked it up.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hi, this is Amy. You mom gave me your number. I heard you go to BIA, right?" She said. Her cheery voice had already annoyed me. I groaned inwardly remembering what my mom had said about some beach party.

"Yeah.. Somnium." I said reluctantly.

"Nice to meet you, just wanted to let you know, the beach party is at 2pm next week Thursday. Okay?" She said.

"Yea, got it." I said. My mind traced back to the black haired merman I had seen.

"Alright!" Her happy voice snapped me out of my trance. "See you then!" She said. I cut off the phone without saying bye. Tossing my phone on my bed, I walked towards my dresser before picking out some clothes.

Slipping them on, I decided to order some food. I took out my phone to call pizza delivery.

About 15 minutes passed and then the door rang. Walking down, I unlocked the door.

"Bacon and green pepper pizza?" The delivery man asked. I nodded before handing him my card. After signing the receipt and collecting my card, I waved goodbye before closing the door. Opening the box I took a bite of the pizza before remembering I had left my phone upstairs. Grabbing it, I turned to my dress and spotting the small brown nut that the merman had given me. I stared at it for a moment before texting my mom.

After finishing the pizza, I went back up and into my room. I stared out the window. The sky was much darker now as it was night time, but I couldn't help but think of the merman. Had he gone back already? To where ever he came from. He's voice rang in my ears. Though we only exchanged a couple of words, he had some manage to engrave them in my head. I ran my hand through my wet hair.

"What is going on with me.." I muttered. Closing the curtains but leaving a small space to look through, I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth before bed. Lying down on my soft pillow, I laid there quietly. And for once, I found my self think not of tsunamis or earthquakes, but the mysterious merman. And just like that, I fell asleep. With no nightmares.

When I woke up to A letter on my dresser. I was guessing that my mother had already left for work again. I sighed, she was rarely ever home because she worked as a doctor, she usually spent most nights at the hospital. Picking up the note I read it.

"Hello dear, you were asleep when I came in and I didn't want to wake you. The soil and planting materials you asked for are next to the back door. I'll be home in time for dinner. I Love you.

-Mom"

I quickly stood up and walked to the bathroom to get ready before going to plant the mystery nut the merman had given me.

Walking downstairs, I put on the gloves, apron, and boots my mom had gotten me before going out to the back deck to plant it.

Just as I was about to water the plant. I thought to my self, what if I wasn't planing this right? If I was going to waste the time and effort I spent. I then realized I knew absolutely nothing about planting, I just assumed it needed dirt, sunlight, and water, what what if it only needed one of those. I dropped the watering can before digging out my seed. Think logically, if this is coming from the ocean, maybe it just needs a cool place to grow with lots of water. An idea popped into my mind.

I carful you grabbed a second pot and filled it about a third way with sand. Then, I poured cool water the rest of the way. Gently tucking the seed in the sand. I prayed silently, hopping that I planted it right and my guess was correct. For the other pot, I found some wild flowers and decided to plant them in the pot filled with soil. I didn't want to waste anything. I took the pot where I planted the nut inside, putting it next to the vent.

I sighed while staring at it.

"God, this is ridiculous." I scoffed before going to move the pot. Just as I look in it, a small sprout have already surfaced. I gasped with a smile.

"No way!"
