Chapter 4 - ⭐4: Lyra

It may only have been a day since Kara had enrolled in Polaris, but she could already feel that she was where she should be. Maybe, it was fate that made her go here. Of course, the only place she ever loved was the school's personal observatory. What astrophile wouldn't like a complete set of equipment for studying heavenly bodies and outer space?

The second day for Kara started the same way her first was. The mornings can't just go away without having to tease Demitri, Cleiv never stopping with his hysterical fits of laughter. Calisto on the other hand was covering his face from having to hide his face from hiding his laughs. Eventually, the three of them were put into detention; to clean the room and hallway after class for 3 days, of course, Calisto was given a week.

"I'm starting to question how we tolerated your strict behavior, uncle--" Kara joked, only to have Demitri throw another dagger at her like in the first day.

"Brother, I mean Brother Demitri." She laughed.

During break, Kara was approached by the rest of her new classmates, in which she was familiar with their faces immidiately since the first day. Kara, in fact, has great memory, though most of the time she tends to intentionally forget things. "Sometimes forgeting is some kind of happiness." She said once.

During the long break, since their next professor was called into an emergency, Kara caught a beautiful melody in the chattering classroom. It silenced everyone as they too were caught in the wonderful song from a wonderful voice. The voice echoed into the now silenced classroom. It was like played by the wind; a song from the waves.

Kara found who sang; a female sitting at the corner of the room, headphones on, eyes closed. Her skin was of light tan, freckles on her cheeks. Her hair was a wavy ginger color that extended to her waist. She was a stunning beauty indeed.

Once she stopped singing, she opened her indigo eyes and looked around to see everyone looking at her. She took her headphones and apologized for being too loud, but no one cared—no, no one spoke, they were astonished at the wonderful voice, as if they were pulled into a siren's spell.

"Wow...." Kara said aloud in bewilderment. "Where'd you learn to sing like that?" She asked as she stood up from her seat and paced towards her with a smile.

The ginger was shocked at first but answered with a slight blush, "I-I learned I could sing like this since I was young... Umm... I'm Sylenna." Kara took her hand and shook it with enthusiasm and amazement, beaming remarks to Sylenna.

The ginger's full name was Sylenna Oxilia Cruz. The ginger haired, indigo eyed female grew up in Norway with her grandparents. Her parents were said to have been lost at sea, only until she was at the age of 12, that she found out her parents worked secretly in IASA. Sylenna had a gift for singing, a voice outmatched by anyone. Polaris, or rather IASA took the oportunity to harness her voice and improve it, of course that such flawed reason wont stand alone; Sylenna knew alot about the history of music. Back then, she would go her grandparents' libernyth and read alot of the history books there, which if course were a majority of music. Histories that were unknown to public, she knew. Songs that were unheard by anyone, she knew.

Of course, what of Polaris if it only harnessed ordinary students? It would be useless to call it Polaris II Scientific Studies and Constellations University if it had the norm.

The two females sat down on the floor and talked to each other. Both immidiately agreed with each other; Sylenna knew more about Kara, then Kara would know more about Sylenna. As if in a speed of light, the two became close friends. Funny, how Kara immidiately trusted the female.

At their next subject, as random as their schedules are, was advanced mathematics. The worst subject to come over, however the only person who was  joyous at this point was no other than the very male with chromatic eyes.

"Why the hell are you so happy, Cal?" Kara asked with curiousity towards Calisto who was beside her. The sitting arrangement was rearranged because of Kara. The teacher rather had put her beside the one student who stayed the longest in Polaris, and that student was of course Calisto Ed Solaris. When she had asked why and how he was the one staying longest here, was because ever since as an infant he had stayed and lived his life in the very island and school. You can say he knows every nook and crany of Polaris Constell University.

After school was finished, Kara walked side by side with the new friend she made, since apparently Cleiv stayed behind for a while to give their homeroon teacher a visit. It may have been awkward, but Sylenna was socialable, unlike Kara. There's a funny saying that Introverts dont make friends, and they get adopted by Extroverts, maybe that should be a scientific fact. Atleast, thats the case with most people.

"So, what's it like in Norway?" Kara asked as she faced Sylenna, walking backwards. The ginger hummed a rather melodic tune, scratching her chin, trying to find the words to describe her home country. "Well, Norway's wonderful. Its actually astonishing how much water surrounds it--Actually its still a bit medieval in terms of the fashion back at my town, but the cities are quite... well.." the female went on about the country.

By the time the two ended their talk, and by Cleiv's arrival, it was nearly dusk. Either of them had hurried with the goodbyes and had rushed back to their homes or dorms. Believe it or not, there was curfew to be raced with.

Although, the island sure is mysterious and may have popped in and out of IASA's radars, there were still alot of theories to what the island might hold. Werewolves are still in research, so are vampires; though its highly a doubt they'd be found here. Plus, the entirity of the place is surrounded by deep waters, the only body part of Earth that is yet to be fully discovered, believe it or not.

Again, the female and her childhood friend may be spending another night by the rooftop of the huge house they own to themselves. Rather than the last night, the stars now were abundant. Coincidentally, constellation Lyra was visible in the night sky. As a fact, constellation Lyra lies in the northern sky, and represent the Lyre, a musical instrument. The fact it is visible, might be because of the geographical location of the island they are on, the equator, or maybe the mysteries of the place itself.

"Wow, maybe the stars are telling me the meeting Sylenna was no coincidence." Kara said out of the blue, making the male look at her with eyes that should be saying that she must've gone mad; although he doesn't blame her. The girl has been mesmerizing and has been believing with stars all her life, it would be impossible to say that she is crazy.

"What makes you say that?" Cleiv asks, striking a conversation, in which he shouldn't have.

"Well, Lyra, as a matter of a fact is a constellation associated with the myth of the greek musician and poet, Orpheus. Which it was first catalouged by the astronomer Ptolemy in the 2nd century.

Lyra contains the fifth brightest star in the sky, 2nd in the northern hemisphere, Vega, and the famous variable star RR Lyrae.

"So, thats about some scientific facts of it, was that the answer to your question, CA?" Kara smiled brightly at CA whose mouth was agape, suprised how composed and how professional Kara sounded as she explained what was not the answer to his question, but the fact of the constellation Lyra. He laughed, setting down the cup he held and sat down on the foldable chair that they always brought up.

"No, Sea. I was asking what made you think Sylenna was not coincidentally supposed to meet with you on this particular day." He cleared, looking at Kara's expression that expressed what seemed to be an 'Oh..' face.

"Well, according to the Myths that circulate around the constellation, Lyra represents the Lyre of Orpheus, who was killed by the Bacchantes, you know,  the Maenads or Mainades, the 'raving ones', female devotees or followers of greek god Dionysus.

Anyways, when the musician died, his lyre was thrown into a river. Then, Zues sent out an eagle to get the lyre and placed them both in the sky.

Orpheus was the son of the Thracian king Oeagrus, and the muse Calliope. Apollo gave him the golden lyre when he was young, as a fact, and taught him how to play it, whereas his mother taught him how to write verses.

"Orpheus--"

"Okay, lets please stick to why you had associated the constellation Lyra to Sylenna?" Cleiv interrupted as he was truly not taking it all in, or rather his brain cannot quite catch up to the mythology. Kara paused for a moment before clearing her throat and speaking,

"Well, myth has it that his music charmed everyone, and without his music the Argonauts cannot go past Sirens, whose songs lure out the sailors of course. With his music, it drowned out the sirens' songs, so they could pass."

"Okay, so thats why you associated Constellation Lyra to Sylenna."

"Yes, and what time is it?" The ocean eyed female asked the pale green eyed male. Cleiv looked at his phone, then told Kara that it was 9:30 in the evening and that they should probably head in. Kara, without protest, gathered all her stuff and went inside.

Just before she went in, she gazed once more into the sky, and when her eyes landed on a particular star, she paused. Cleiv, who had noticed her abrupt halt, looked at her with wonder.

"I think I'll meet someone ambitious tomorrow or the next day." Kara spoke, her voice laced with casuality, as if she was just reciting a boring story of a book, or maybe a useless fact.

Cleiv raised at eyebrow, questioning himself why'd she said it. By the many years he has known her, he couldn't get used to how Kara may have been predicting futures. Astrology afterall is some type of divination that uses the stars or movements of it onto how it affects the human life. Although, Kara's type of Astrology mainly just bases on her instincts or gut feelings, as what she told him years before.

He'd rather not strike a question at her, since its probably best to rest than to be continueously being fed facts he may be skilled in remembering. Whatever the universe and what Kara said will be left to its own flow.

The following day went on as normal, the usual clatter, the same people. This time, lacking Calisto, but replaced by another person, in which Chris claimed to be a close friend from the other section. Sylenna confirmed this as she too was socializing and having fun with this new person. Cleiv, slightly.

"So, you're the new girl? Such a pleasure to meet someone new in this repeative school life."

Sylenna Oxilia Cruz

Sylenna driven from Selena, I just thought if it was "Sy" rather than "Se" it would seem more mermaid-ish or something. Cruz is a spanish name.
