I walked throughout the village, touching and feeling what I could without buying suspicion.
I visited the blacksmith and admired the swords and armor, the potions master and saw the various strange materials and even the butcher to see strange and exotic meats, hides and bones.
'So... This world is a game called Unity.
Not very traditional in a sense since it did not put a numerical value that the players can access to evaluate their current self but very life-like in a sense that they need to constantly train and experience in order to gain stronger.
Except there is no 'soft' or 'hard' limit to the potential of growth.'
[Correct]
'Is there a way to change this whole thing about being able to see points of data? Although it's useful, it clutters up my vision and draws attention to everything.'
[You may create a trigger with an on/off function. The off mode will make it so the sensitivity of data detection will be lowered, although objects that are very close may still show them, and the on mode will revert it. All gatherings of data in the off mode will still continue in passive mode, you will not be able to analyze it until later by recalling a certain object or data point]
'A trigger huh... Hmm... How do I create one?'
[Perform an action and tell me that the action was a trigger for a certain aspect, you may name the aspect as well]
'Oh... Alright then. Hmm.'
I tapped my forehead with my middle finger as I thought. 'This. This will be the trigger. Let's call it... Data sight'.
[Confirmed. The trigger for 'Data Sight' has been created]
I tapped my forehead and my sight cleared up. No more data clutters blocking the view of the world.
"Much better!" I exclaimed out loudly!
Some people around threw a glance at me with a strange expression from the shout.
With great embarrassment, I scurried away towards the gate at the furthest point of the village.
"Halt!" One of the two guards standing by the gate, the shorter one, spoke.
"Hello, is there an issue?" I replied as I tapped my forehead two times quickly, briefly revealing to me that they were non-players.
"You may not pass the gates without any form of defense, are you a mage perhaps?" The other guard, a taller but skinnier person, spoke out.
"No, not quite... Maybe not just quite yet." I spoke in uncertainty.
"Well, there are dangers in the fields outside the safety of the village, the chief of the village has specifically ordered nobody, not even merchants, to freely exit the village without a form of defense." The tall guard said whilst letting a few other people pass who each had their respective weapons.
"But I've no money or a weapon..." I said dejectedly.
"Go to the training center near the chief's residence near the top of the village, they hand out basic weapons of your choice, at least from the selection that's available there, once you complete their basic training program and sign up as the backup militia. Don't worry it won't take long. Even less if you're skilled." The short guard smoked nonchalantly as he drank from his canteen.
"Oh, thank you!" I spoke out in enlightenment as I hurriedly made my way back towards the village.
"How long do you think it'll take him?" The taller guard asked.
"I give him a week. Two silvers" The shorter guard scoffed as he replied.
"I'll take it, by this afternoon for me." The taller guard smiled as he spoke.
The shorter guard's head turned as he stared at the other guard.
"You do believe the shortest time on record was 16 hours right Charlie?" The shorter guard asked with a confused look.
"Oh Reeves, you'll win two silvers if I'm wrong so why the worry?" Charlie responded.
"True... Don't go against your word! I'll have a big dinner tonight at the pub haha..." Reeves seemed to be in a better mood as Charlie simply stared towards the back of the person that had just left with a faint smile.
-----
It wasn't very hard to spot the training center with the giant statue of a half-naked but muscular man outside the building, propping up the signs with the words 'Training Hall'. Of course, there was the additional landmark right beside it, the huge mansion that was the meeting hall for the most important members of the village as well as being the residence of the chief.
There were other people bustling around the training center and with a quick tap on the forehead, the doctor had been able to determine that the majority of these people were players. Which made sense.
'It seems they are all here to receive their first weapons, maybe it's the easiest method or maybe even the only method of obtaining a weapon to start off.'
[Half-correct. This is not the only method of earning a weapon nor is it the fastest but it is the most widely known method as well as being the most secure method of obtaining a weapon. Plus there are more varieties to choose from here than the other methods.]
'I see. Well, we're here already so let's have an attempt at it.'
[Please do not group us together, I am but just a mind. Though you are as well, you control an avatar and am in the end, the master of I.]
'Oh sorry, uh... A.I. I'll have an attempt at it then.'
I walked into the hall and walked up to the front desk.
"Hello, are you here to sign up for the militia?" A handsome man in leather armor spoke with a smile behind the desk.
"Yes, I heard I needed to pass a basic test and will be given a complimentary weapon?" I replied with a smile in return.
"Haha, you're correct. Though the passing rates are not the highest and the test can be quite difficult, you will receive a weapon forged by the disciples of the village's master blacksmith! They are very durable and because it was forged by themselves, it will cost less to repair it once it does get dull or damaged since they know about it the best!" The man replied with a laugh.
"That sounds lovely, how do I sign up then?" I spoke.
"I'll sign you up and send you in, may I get your name and preferred battling method? If you do not have a preferred method, there may be an additional test to examine your potential in certain aspects". The man spoke as he pulled out a piece of paper.
"Oh I am Ja... hmm... I am...Deus. My name is Deus. And no I don't have a preferred method, may I go through that additional test?" I quickly came up with a new name for a few reasons. One, hide my real life identity in case my enemies and other people knew me and two, because why not? It sounded cool. Deus Ex Machina.... A god from a machine.
'Quite suitable right A.I?' I thought.
[I would judge it using a scale the humans use and describe it using the word 'Arrogant' or 'Blasphemous' but these concepts do not concern me. Please do not ask such trivial matters, it is best I use my time absorbing and gaining more data.']
'Oh... Uh... Sorry...'
"Alright! It's all done Deus! Quite a unique name but a lot of people with strange names have appeared recently, we even had a man whose name didn't even fit on the paper! Please wait by room 2 on the left first, the people who will help you determine your potential will be inside and will call you when necessary. Afterwards, go walk into the giant door of room 13 on the right. An instructor will wait for you inside." The man spoke as he filed the paper into a folder and wrote the names 'Deus' on it.
"Thank you!" I quickly headed towards room 2 only to be met by almost a dozen people waiting outside.
'Well, this might take a while...'
