Chereads / The Last Bride Of The Water God / Chapter 39 - Grand Exit

Chapter 39 - Grand Exit

"Jiang?!"

Qian Lan's jaw dropped. She was confused as to why Jiang was the duke. As shocked as everyone around her, Qian Lan could hear the crowd of noblemen and women chatter in the crowd. The king quickly recollects himself and silences the crowd.

"Silence! Who are you?! Where's the real Duke?!"

The king stares intently at Jiang as he breaks into an eerie smile.

"Ah, I merely took on his appearance. He's back at his resident unconscious. Worry not, I didn't kill him. He'll wake soon. Now, let go of my wife."

The king retracts his sights on Jiang and locks eyes with Qian Lan.

"Wife?! You know that man?! Speak Ms. Qian Lan!"

"Uh...Gee...how do I say this..."

Qian Lan wasn't even sure how to go about introducing the water god. Stuttering over herself she could only mumble and try to avert her eyes from the glares of the king.

"Qian Lan, as King I demand an answer!"

The king grips even harder onto Qian Lan's wrist as she winces in pain.

"Ah! That hurts your majesty!"

"Answer me!"

"He's the water god!"

After a few seconds of silence, Qian Lan listened as the whole room erupted into laughter. Everyone thought she was a joking. Even the king couldn't keep a straight face.

"Ha...ha...you can't be serious. How much did you pay this man to pretend and be a god? Ha Ha Ha!"

Qian Lan snaps with anger. With adrenaline running through her, Qian Lan snaps back her wrist and manages to break free from the kings grip as he had loosened his hold. The room continues to be filled with laughter and mocking noises of Qian Lan's statement. Even the king was enjoying his time laughing with his advisors.

Jiang continues to smirk and extends out his right arm for Qian Lan.

Seeing as everyone was distracted, Qian Lan quickly tries to walk away from the kings. The king quickly notices and comes back to his sense and ends up pulling Qian Lan back by her hair.

"Ah!"

Taken by surprise Qian Lan falls back and lands on left her side; slightly twisting her left wrist from the impact.

Annoyed and angry the water god flicks his arm out and sends the king flying back; hitting a guard standing behind the kings chair.

Once again, the room goes silent. Not a single sound could be heard but the noises of the kings guards coming to his aid and surrounding the water god.

"Oh...no..no..."

Qian Lan quickly stands up and heads towards Jiang. Quickly paving her way past the kings guards. Grabbing hold of his hand, Qian Lan locks eyes with Jiangs eyes.

"Jiang? I'm okay! See? I'm fine. Let's go!"

"..."

"Ah...no no no, Jiang I'm fine! This is nothing! Please don't start anything for my sake! Hm?!"

Qian Lan continues pleading with her eyes and assures Jiang she was fine and no bloodshed was necessary. However Ah Meng, the human king refuses to take any insult. Pushing his guard aside he grabs his sword and unsheathes it from its scabbard. Wiping blood from his chin, he points his swords at Jiang.

"Move Ms. Qian Lan."

Qian Lan quickly turns around and faces Ah Meng.

"I refuse! Please stop this madness your majesty!"

Qian Lan stands in front of Jiang and refuses to budge from her spot. All the while, Jiang bursts into laughter.

" A mere human dares to challenge a god? This is why humans are stupid and not worthy of the heavens blessing."

Jiang grabs Qian Lan and moves her aside as she continues to plea with him.

"Jiang please, let's just go back to the water palace. He is not worth your effort!"

Jiang ignores Qian Lan's pleas and walks to the center of the banquet floor. With the guards surrounding and forming a large circle around the two men. Ah Meng charges in first, without holding back the two men went at each other. However Qian Lan could tell that Jiang was just toying with Ah Meng.

The fight went on for a good hour of just Ah Meng attacking aimlessly now due to exhaustion.

"Fight me you coward! Stop running away!"

Jiang smirks and chuckles at the poor sight of the human king.

"If I were to get serious, you may just lose your head in the process."

"Grrrr...! Who are you really?!"

"A god."

"Damn you! You expect me to believe you?! You must be a black arts user! Turn yourself in to the temple for interrogation!"

"Haha!"

Jiang smirks at Ah Meng's words and deflects his sword; breaking it in half.

"Give up human while you still have some pride left."

Ah Meng could only stand his ground as he watches Jiang walk back to Qian Lan. Meanwhile, the head shaman quickly barges into the banquet hall. She takes notice of Jiang and shakes in fear before falling on her knees.

"Goodness Heavens! Please have mercy on us!"

Everyone in the room including the king could only stare in shock and confusion.

"What are you doing here head shaman? I didn't call for you!"

"I....I beg your pardon your majesty, but I sensed great power when I was at my temple room. I had to come see for myself who it was. To think it was you your greatness!"

The shaman continues to bow in front of Jiang. A nobleman from the crowd silently speaks out in the midst of all the chaos.

"You mean to say...he's really a god? If the head shaman says so, then it must be true!"

Everyone quickly scrambles to the floor and pays their respect to Jiang. Everyone but Ah Meng, the human king.

Jiang; not even flinching from all the chaos quickly grabs hold of Qian Lan and carries her in a princess carry.

"I could care less what happens to you humans, but I am taking my wife back with me."

Within mere seconds, Jiang was ready to teleport him and Qian Lan back home. Without uttering another word to the humans. Meanwhile, Qian Lan could only look over Jiangs shoulder and locks eye with Ah Meng.

"Wait...Jiang. Let me say my farewell."

"What? You want to speak to them after how they treated you?"

"Please, I'll be quick."

Qian Lan smiles and motions for Jiang to put her down. Walking only a feet in front of Jiang; Qian Lan breaks the silence.

"Uh...Your majesty, I'm sorry but this is where we part. You have a whole harem and a princess consort already that cherishes you. I will be returning to the water god's palace. Hah....I mean, I was sacrificed as his bride right?"

"Ms. Qian Lan....if you're afraid just tell me and I will help you!"

"Your majesty, I'm not afraid of Jiang. But I am afraid of what you're becoming. When I first met you, you were a bright and smart man. Now....you've become someone I don't even recognize. I know you're a great king and the person I first met is still in there somewhere."

"Ms...Qian Lan....I'm sorry. I never meant to scare you."

"I know your majesty, but I can't return your feelings. I love Jiang....I mean the water god. Please let me go and go find your own happiness."

Qian Lan turns around and holds onto Jiangs right hand.

"Let's go home Jiang."

Jiang pulls Qian Lan into an embrace and whips out his right hand. Within mere seconds, everyone watched as Qian Lan disappear with the water god.
