Chapter 37 - Plans for the party

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN

Desi got home exhausted. Before she entered the house she made sure to throw away the invitation card in the trash can situated beside the entrance.

She walked in ignoring the greetings from the Burtler, walked to her room and slumped on the bed while muttering to herself.

"I hate school."

Her body itched she knew she needed a shower but her strength was giving up on her. Soon she drifted to the wonderland.

The car pulled up in front of the house and the chauffeur opened the door for Michael. The Burtler rushed out to collect his Master's bag.

"Is she home?" The Burtler knew the she he was talking about and quickly nodded while affirming to his question.

Michael walked to the porch and saw a shiny blue thing in the trash can. He moved and picked it up. It was an engagement invitation card.

As he looked at the card he narrowed his eyes. This was clearly her cousin's engagement party invitation. Why had she thrown it away?

He handed it over to the Burtler and went inside.

*********************************************

It was the morning before Daphne's engagement party. Desi went down to the dining room for her breakfast. She had planned to go and visit her mother that day.

Since she moved into the Kingston's Mansion she noticed that Michael hadn't gone for any morning jogs. She had thought he was the type to keep fit. Or had he been so occupied?

She saw his back at the dining table. Graciously having his meal.

"Good morning." She said to him and made herself comfortable at the table.

"Mmm." He muttered while nodding at the same time.

Desi was almost done with her lunch when the Burtler came in with a box and kept it on the seat next to her.

"What is that?"

"It's a package for you, ma'am."

"OH... give it to me."

She tore the box open and she brought out an A-lined black dress. She was confused as to why she was given this dress and where it came from. She furrowed her brows and observed the dress. It was certainly her type. But, she hardly puts on black dresses. She just had only two of them in her dressing room.

"Do you like the dress?" She heard Michael ask.

"Yes." She answered primly.

"I told my assistant to get it for you since you would be needing it tonight."

Desi furrowed her brow for the second time. What was happening tonight? Is he taking her out on a date? If the case was so, then why did he waste such money on a gown that would only be worn to a date? Thousands of questions ran through her mind till she heard him say again.

"It's your cousins engagement party. She invited you, didn't she? That's why you need the dress."

"I'm not going to that party, but, I'm keeping the dress, thank you 😊." She shamelessly coverted the dress.

"You have to go and show her that you are happy for her. If you don't attend, she can stir up gossips about you not being happy for your cousin, while hiding the real story."

"Just go and show your face, give them your blessings and return home, that's all."

After giving it some thought she decided to go. What she wasn't aware of was Michael's real intention for making her go to that party.

After breakfast she accompanied her mom to the market where she bought groceries for her. And of course her mother had spoken about her Father again. She said that she couldn't shake off the feeling that he was still alive.

She returned home to find a set of people waiting for her at home.

She had wanted to question their presence before the Burtler interrupted.

"Ma'am they were hired by master to make you look extremely good for the party. They're hair stylists and make up artists."

"Oh...."

"Ma'am we'll wait for you to have a bath first."

The woman who seemed to be the leader said to her.

In less than two hours, Desi was dolled up and changed to another being altogether. The makeup artist was so happy because her work had never been so perfect. She clicked the camera so many times to get so many pictures of her. She was going to use her face on her billboard.

Desi noticed that Michael wasn't home yet. She wasn't expecting him to accompany her because they wanted to keep their relationship a secret. He left four bodyguards and the most expensive car in his garage for her.

It was going to be a long night.
