After seeing two other living beings in the same room as him, Jax didn't really feel any threat from them. Instead of jumping into conclusions, he chose to observe and read their expressions before planning out his next course of action.
The scrawny man's calm face didn't give much away, but his eyes were full of uncertainty and doubts. It was as though he was deliberately trying to play cool.
Definitely an arrogant living thing.
Meanwhile, the second man, who seemed a lot more healthy compared to the first one, looked genuinely confused with his face that could be counted as an 'open book.'
The two men stood at least six feet high from the ground, or maybe it could be said that, that was how high they seemed for the sprawled out Jax for now.
Since they didn't open their mouths even after approaching him and standing there for more than two full minutes, Jax could only ask Nexus for help.
However, it wouldn't answer him no matter how many times he tried to reach out to it.
Jax didn't know whether to laugh or cry. This stupid voice in his head would wreak havoc in ears, if he were to neglect it for a while. And, now it was doing the same thing to him, giving him mental silence that he craved for most after it's appearance, when he needed some serious answers with his life depending on them.
What an unreliable system!
But then, he heard a familiar notification sound, saying he could now collect his reward for completing his first task.
And in the next second, a few rows of sentences appeared in his eyes, following with the notification of boosting back his strength points.
In the matter of a few seconds, all the fatigue he felt so far vanished into thin air, as he felt his body regaining the strength he needed.
For Jax, the feeling couldn't be described in words. It was like having one's body dipped in the life rejuvenating lake or drinking some miraculous muscle strengthening potion.
The wounds on his body, however, seemed still in the same condition, except he didn't feel much pain.
How incredible!
Maybe, completing these tasks was not all that bad compared to what Nexus actually let out.
But then, his long forgotten conscience immediately made its presence known, shouting at the back of his head, that this was what he got from killing a person.
Just like that, his moment of fun was snuffed out of his system in the blink of an eye.
He was then forced to concentrate on the situation at hand.
He slowly sat up and called for Nexus, for God knows how many times, but it was as though it had absorbed all his earlier fatigue, it wouldn't budge again.
It was so annoying!
Left with no other choice, Jax turned to face the two men in front of him.
"Who are you?" He asked slowly.
"I'm Ken..." One of them answered hesitantly, while looking in between the other one and Jax.
He was the same man with the confused expression. Even his words were hesitant. Great.
"I'm Jax." Jax returned the favor and these two then looked at the scrawny man, excepting the same courtesy.
"I'm Rob." Answered the man in a gruff voice.
But after that, silence fell over them while each one studied the other two.
"So, how did we end up here?" It was Jax, who broke the silent spell that stretched itself out too long for any of their liking.
"I'm on a mission and after completing that, I lost consciousness and when I woke up, I was already here." Rob, the scrawny man said, gauging his recipients reaction.
But the word 'mission' gave away whatever he wanted to play dumb about.
Mission, he said, which can be otherwise called as a task or in their case 'a quest.'
Jax immediately pointed it out and Ken also seemed to catch onto it after he mentioned it out loud.
"You mean a quest?" Jax asked Rob.
But before Rob could answer Jax back, Ken voiced out his own question.
"A task about killing a target, right?" Ken spoke, with a look of understanding on his face.
Rob immediately understood that they were also aware of whatever he went through, so he nodded, answering them both at the same time.
Jax didn't know what to feel about this situation. There were actually other participants in this stupid killing quest hunt.
"Then, did you guys also have been hearing any weird voice in your heads?" Ken asked after pondering for a minute.
He was not sure, whether he should talk about the system or not.
On the other hand, the two people nodded their heads in yes again.
This conversation was going in a much better direction, than Jax had actually thought it would turn out to be.
Even though they didn't know each other prior today, the fact that they were being thrown in to the same bowl of hot soup, made them listen to the other two.
"But, it stopped responding after I found myself in this room." Rob told them the reason for the look of uncertainty in his eyes.
"Yeah, it's the same for me. It said something about the task reward and then completely disappeared. I don't understand why," Ken chimed in, stating his own confused thoughts.
Could there be any more coincidences for them to be in this place?
Jax could tell that they were saying the truth, but that didn't mean he was content with their answers.
He needed answers for what reason or using what method they were brought here and whom were responsible for it.
He was beyond frustrated now.
This whole debacle is testing his non existent patience so much.
"I think we should go out and check this place out," Ken suggested out of the blue.
But, it's not so sudden for Jax, though. He already planned to do so, even before they both made their presence known to him.
Thus, here they were, standing with their lower Jaws almost hitting the ground while gaping at the scene in front of them with their eyes wide open. Of course, this was all after they ventured out of the building.
