"I forgot my wallet before leaving to carry out that stupid task," Rob cut off their last hope with a neutral expression on his face, as he was saying the fact.
Rob was a police officer and his partner in investigation was the very first target he was delegated to eliminate.
There would be no way for him to think about trivial things such as; his wallet or money, when he didn't have any other choice but to kill his own partner.
His mind was too occupied with the fact that he would become a killer. The exact kind of people that usually went on the opposite side of his moral conduct.
Meanwhile, Ken was a normal carpenter and his first target was a woman.
And as for Jax, he was an escaped convict, and all his belongings were confiscated on the day of his imprisonment by the guards at the prison. Not even the change of coins were left in his possession.
At this moment, Jax suddenly remembered something and looked down at his attire. And shoot! He was still in his prison clothes!
Now, one more problem got added to the pile of crappy sh*t he was forced to deal with.
And, this was the most important issue that was needed to be solved immediately.
Jax lifted his head and noticed that the other two were also looking at him, more precisely at his clothes.
Up until now, they didn't even get a chance to look at each other's faces properly, let alone clothes.
And now, due to the weird change in Jax's behavior all of a sudden, the other two also took interest in what was bothering Jax. What greeted them was the number stenciled on the left side of his chest.
"You are a convict?" Ken looked at Jax questioningly.
Jax admitted. "Yes, kind of..."
"On the charges?" Rob cut him off, going on a full interrogating mode.
"A murder. But..." Jax explained about his predicament in a very simple way.
"So you were accused falsely?" Ken asked him after he finished talking.
"It doesn't matter now." Rob said lightly.
Yes, it didn't matter anymore. Because, he had indeed killed someone for real with his bare hands just a few hours ago.
Jax then noticed that Ken was wearing a denim jacket on top of his army green T- shirt.
"Can you let me have your jacket?" Jax could only make do with what was available now...
He just needed to cover the glaring number that was sewed on the fake pocket on his chest, to make these clothes look passable.
To his luck, Ken agreed to his request and let Jax 'borrow' his almost worn- out black denim jacket.
A crisis was dealt by just like that. It was enough for now.
Rob and Ken then walked out of the telephone booth, with Ken holding onto the tablet, to join Jax who was standing just outside all this time.
Now, they should think about their options, especially to overcome the next hurdle that was thrown in their path. Namely, figuring out a reasonable way to reach their target.
"No matter how long I thought about it, it wouldn't be possible for us to travel that far without using any transport means. More importantly, time is the most crucial element here." Ken said, after staring at the tablet for a really long moment in deliberation.
"Yes, we won't be able to make it, even if we walk without stopping. Because, it was not as if we can walk continuously either. We need rest and food." Rob said, looking all expressionless and aloof.
"The only way remaining is to make money. But how?" Jax resigned, sighing.
These stupid systems in their heads didn't really think that they were some killing machines, did they?
How in the hell should they figure this part out? How to make money in an unfamiliar place?
Just as Rob opened his mouth to say something, Jax heard Nexus calling out to him.
[Jax!]
And when he noticed the other two standing frozen in their spots, Jax realized that the systems in their heads also woke up. At the same moment.
Speaking of freaking coincidences!
[Jax! Jax! Jax!]
Since Jax was busy cursing even a mere coincidence, Nexus was left with no other choice but to try 'harder' to attract it's host's attention.
[JAX!!!]
However, it was not until it shrilled in an unbearably screechy voice, did Jax finally surrender and answered it back with a low hum.
[You finally answered back!]
Nexus exclaimed in its sickly excited, high pitched voice with a hint of happiness to it's tone.
However, Jax remained silent, as he was still trying to figure out a way to mitigate their financial crisis at present.
They had nothing but the clothes they were currently wearing. It was indeed a huge crisis...
[Well, you can just ask me to find a way.]
The system said smugly.
Nexus announced it using an almost overbearing undertone. But Jax didn't seem to take it's blabbering seriously as he responded nonchalantly.
'How do you want to help me?'
[You need money, right?]
'Yes, why?'
[I can help you.]
'You?'
[Yes, me.]
Nexus's answer was truly intriguing to Jax, so he chose to play along with it.
'How?'
[I can help you make some.]
'I thought you were going to lend me some, though.'
Jax reply was outrightly sarcastic, like he didn't believe whatever the system was trying to sell him.
[I'm not joking. You just need to go to the place I'm going to tell you and meet a person...]
'Meet someone? Are you sure that that was all I have to do? And, It didn't have a different meaning like the word find?'
Jax wouldn't be surprised if the system said he had to commit some other kind of offense now. He already got used to this system's weird way of making him do things.
[No. This is like a mini task. You will find out after meeting her.]
A mini task? Wait, did it say her?
'Her? A girl?'
[Yes, a girl.]
'Who is she?'
[An agent.]
